Fake Dollfie Dreams?!

Seeing that fake Miku makes me so sad, never thought DDs would be possible to become like recast BJDs. But the fake one will never be as beautiful as the original one. Hopefully this doesn't become big as in the BJD community.

The really scary part is that the 3/5 listings on eBay, each have about 15 bids. Knock off enthusiasts, are hungry for these.

The manufacturer does state in the item description that these are ‘high quality’ Chinese versions and not originals. So only inattentive or new people are at risk of falling for the scams... hopefully.

Selling these for 99$ including outfit and international shipping. Now that's quite a shock. How can they do that? Makes only sense if they made a mass production.

Will be interesting if the VOLKS lawyer can pull this down. If they don't, I bed this will be a big problem in the future. Also for Danny with his cortex PVC dolls.

There's also a longer video posted on that person's youtube.

The whole thing is really depressing, especially when a lot of the yt video's comments are people trying to buy the fake. On one side, the video highlights all the weird things about this Miku that definitely identifies her as a fake; on the other, I'm sad that people are like clamoring for bootleg goods. ughhh...the whole thing just leaves me sad...

I just looked at that now. It's disgusting, and the same tired excuses for buying bootlegs of luxury products along with some exaggeration thrown in as further justification. One commenter keeps talking about the real doll being $2000. I doubt it's possible to pay that for Snow Miku unless you're a moron and buy from some ebay scalper. The number of DDs that sell for that kind of price is what, 5 or so at most (Saber Lily, Tamaki, Sasara)?

I've been into videogames for many years and I've seen the same crappy attitudes and justifications for piracy there forever, and what it really all distills down to is "Me! Me! Me! I want stuff, I don't want to pay for it; I don't care about anyone else even the people who make this stuff I want!" It's disgusting and infuriating.

I know the uploader put that video up as informational and a warning to people, but those comments make it appear to be having the opposite effect.

I see also the makers of this went so far as to use Volks branding and logos as welll as the official Dollfie Dream logo on the packaging. In one way that's good because it gives Volks a lot more legal options for dealing with these people, though I know the situtation with IP laws in China makes it difficult anyway.

I think what some people forget is just because a scalper is listing a doll for $2000 doesn’t mean people are actually buying it at that price. Sure I’ve seen some dd listed on eBay for crazy prices, but most of them have been sitting there for years (or least, for as many years as I’ve been in the hobby :p).

I hate the attitude some of these people have. Volks consistently puts out fabulous dolls, not to mention seasonal outfits, wigs, accessories, etc. All of this takes time, energy, skill, and passion. None of these things come cheap, nor would I want them to.

I’ll try not to ramble here, but Volks is very precious to me as a brand and company, and it hurts to see this happening. As an artist whose had goods bootlegged by Chinese factories, I know from personal experience how hurtful and infuriating this is. You have nearly no recourse or ability to get the bootlegging to stop, unless you have access to someone who can go and talk to the factory in person. Copyright law in China...is not what it is other places. I do hope Volks has some recourse and can take legal action. But I feel like it might be very difficult for them, not to mention expensive.

Ughh...people who say “Well, they can hire a lawyer” probably have no idea how expensive legal stuff can get....

I thought I should share my experience on this Fake Dollfie Dreams Topic.

Last weekend, literally 6 days ago, I have discovered and learnt about Dollfie Dreams after seeing a counterfeit Dollfie Dreams Snow Miku inside a local Hong Kong store selling for HKD$880.

The shop is famous for selling a lot of quality bootlegs and third-party Transformers, Gundams etc. and when I saw the Dollfie Dreams Miku - not knowing what dollfie dreams was all about, just really appreciate seeing a Big MIKU, I've bought it without hesitation. (yeah I like Miku, but I never collect her toys. This is my first as the size of the doll really sold me )

I knew it is probably counterfeit, but seriously, I did not know the market price of the real deal cost over USD900!

I am an experienced toys collector, I do model fashion shoots for living, so when I check the doll, she looks fine to me, but I am definitely no expert on Dollfie Dreams Dolls. ( for example, I didn't know the body is meant to be soft vinyl and not hard plastic. and the face should look kinda different ? no idea, have to have the real deal next to it to see the difference)

After few days of research and joining this forum, I will get an original Dullfie Dreams Miku after CNY when I get my bonus. I have no idea where to get the Miku at a decent price point but with no network and friends from the forum I guess I will stick to eBay. LOL

But yeah, these China factories will continue to make quality counterfeit and put on market to sell to those not a dedicated / expert on Dollfie Doll collectors. This works, I am one of the "victim". but seriously, the way this is going is simple. there will be more quality counterfeit DD dolls, just like the transformers, and the China factory will continue to improve their manufacture skills making these at a price point where the general consumer will pay for.

Now other than the obvious "I hate China Fake Stuff" argument, I think it is also not ethical to print "Made in Japan" on the box.

I think most of these dolls will be sold within China for those Miku fans who have no knowledge on the real Dollfie Dreams products, but for some which are sold on Amazon or ebay that will be disaster. imagine some selling selling one of these fake dolls for USD$690.

A good source for Volks' official Miku is Mandarake where for an unused one she sells for 80,000 yen, only a little above her retail price. Volks also rereleases her fairly often for special events; Snow Miku was available recently for instance.

Miku:

Snow Miku:

https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1043629950&categoryCode=020114&lang=en

Ebay can be ok but prices are usually higher there. Mandarake doesn't sell bootlegs.

Thank you for point me to Mandarake, I usually buy stuff there when I am in Tokyo / Osaka / Fukuoka. But I have never order goods from them online. I will need to check them out later.

I also know yahoo Japan auction sell some too but I need to use proxy and it can be costly.

Lol, I was scalping people left and right in her previous people.

I can’t get over how people try so hard to defend the danky Miku, and buying her. Some people have never had their art stolen and it shows.

It makes me sad seeing support comments in that video. I think the video did show how different they are. The quality of recast Miku is obviously terrible. When they said that they can make her looks nicer with new face-up and clothing. I bet they don't know that most artists are not support recast.

It is really sad that people don't see anything wrong with recasts and bootlegs. It is one of those things where they would scream bloody murder if THEY were ripped off and people supported it, but feel no conscience when they are the ones supporting others being ripped off

I tried commenting, on the people saying they wanted the doll even though it was a fake, and that "fakes deserve love as well", that they should "please support the original artist and their work"... One commentor agreed, but otherwise all responses I got was "the material is cheap, therefore I don't want to use my money on it", no matter what I said, they just couldn't understand that materials is not the problem...

It really disheartens me that there's so so many people who would knowingly buy a recast...

I must admit, that when recasts first appeared in the resin community, I did not understand how serious of a threat it is to a hobby... I was even a supporter/didn't care...

I just hope some of the people commenting on the video will realise how bad counterfeits is for a hobby, especially such a "small" one

I was very disappointed to see that some had made a fake Dollfie Dream.

I should've known it was only a matter of time though...

I personally can't understand not wanting to own the real thing I guess.

Pictures of these crap bootleg Snow Mikus are all over instagram now. I hate that, besides all the other issues, these pictures hurt Volks' reputation for quality and cute dolls. People who don't know bootlegs exist may see these pictures and think that's what real Dollfie Dreams look like.

So sad for all the doll community that people don’t understand that is kills creativity and artists, naively, i thought only bjd’s were affected, i’m new to dollfies, i think i will see the video that compares original and fake to recognize them

This is truly awful. I remember back when it was strange to think that you could make fake dollfie dreams, and now I see them posted everywhere ): I hope that people will begin to realize how badly it's affecting the hobby already, and how badly it affects other hobbies as well.

The responses to the comparison video T_T I'm trying to point people who just don't want to pay over 200 for a doll to Obitsu instead but I don't think it'll do much

I'm really sad to bring this bad news here, but probably there are new fake Blue Saber fullsets available.
There is a short info in the Dollfie Palette fb group about this. No photos at the moment (apparently the scammers use the original photos of Volks' fullset).
The group admin suggests, that the fake fullset will probably have the fake DD3 body, instead of new Blue Saber's DDf3.

Takes effort, but can be done. Bandai had proven it by having factories of both copycat and third-party stuff shut down very hard.

Granted, they also have a pretty massive official presence in China.
