Project Nagisa - Clannad

UPDATE: 8th July 2012

 

Head acquired, de stained and a "generic" faceup applied. By that I mean, I've done a random faceup, rather than copy Nagisa exactly due to only yesterday having ever done a vinyl faceup! I'll show some pictures of that soon though. I did OK but there's room for improvement.

Eyes have been ordered from a custom eye maker on this forum ^_^

I'm on a layaway for a DDII body with medium bust at the moment and will have paied it off at the end of this month.

OK, This is going to be a very long term project and when I say "long" I mean long. Mostly because I'll need to save up to do most of it.

 

Anyway, my project is to create a dollfie dream version of Nagisa Furukawa from Clannad. Mostly because I just loved that character and partially because of how touching the anime and the character was to me.

 

So what's on the agenda:

 

Source a suitable head for Nagisa.

Buy said head.

Do faceup on head.

Obtain a body. Probably a DDII OR DDS with a medium bust.

Study the various school uniforms she wears in the series.

Study a few casual outfits she wears in the series.

Draft the patterns.

Trial and error sewing.

End product sewing from trial and error.

Obtain a wig.

Style the wig.

Obtain the eyes.

 

May or may not be in order.

Finding the head

 

So, what is it we are trying to make a DD look like?

 

 

That is Nagisa.

At the moment I'm thinking the 03 Yukino head would be the best which I actually have! but it has a faceup from the previous owner and tomorrow I'll be wiping it and doing a mockup in photoshop which will be posted here. But any suggestions are welcome!

As far as existing heads go I think Escalayer would actually be a pretty close match. Check the pics with the brown wig. you may have a tough time finding one for a price you'd want to pay though.

As for the uniform, while sewing one would probably be cheaper, Volks did release a Clannad uniform a while back.

It is pretty close but I'm not a huge fan of the open mouth. It looks like it's sculpted into the mold?

 

Might be a possibility though!

 

Perhaps I could mod a Yukino head to make the eyes a tad larger?

I agree, one look at those shots and the 03 head sprang immediately to mind! I don't think it'd be too hard to open the eyes up a little bit more, probably at the outer bottom corner and the upper inner corners--just a bit of sanding. Though it may also be worth considering the idea of slightly sanding down the chin and/or nose, as the nose in particular on the 03 is pretty pointy while it's drawn pretty small on Nagisa in the screenshots you posted.

 

As for eyes, Twin Snow does have some golden eyes, but they're 22mm--fine if you keep the eyes at their original size, but probably a bit too small if you enlarge them. If you're rather particular about accuracy, there's Ersa Flora with their custom services, or there's blanks from Pupa Paradise (linked directly to the page with the 24mm ones).

 

Volks did do a Clannad uniform for one Dolpa, actually, though I have no idea what its market value is at the moment. Still, even if it's out of your price range, it may be helpful to look at photos of it as a starting point--no need to completely reinvent the wheel, right?

Thank you Poofiemus! I knew that volks had made a clannad uniform before but I'd had no luck finding any pictures, likely looking in the wrong places.

Galvatim, that picture pretty much seals the deal for me. The 03 head will be used. I am currently trying to remove the faceup from the head and DAMN, it's stained bad. I can't even get the sealant off the headcap, I have no idea what the previous owner sealed that with because I have taken the majority of the faceup off.

 

The blushing is stained in and there are several stains from eye crease, eye lines and the brows. The heads soaking in a surgical spirit (rubbing alchohol) and water mix at the moment but an hours soak seems to have done nothing.

 

I'll need to get some benzoyl peroxide cream then! if that doesn't work I'll probably have to find another head or try to mask the stains with the faceup.

 

For the uniforms I'll be collecting pictures of the volks ones, cosplay images and images from the anime. I've been a seamstress since 2005 so I'm confident that I can make the uniforms fairly well.

That outfit is pretty hard to find, I've seen a few have pop up on Mandarake in the 10,000yen-12,000yen range. I think since you are able to sew making one yourself would be the cheapest and best option. Also it will make this Nagisa more of your own.

 

I wish you the best of luck in removing all the stains off the head so you can get started on her face up.

 

I love the girls of Clannad and Nagisa is one of my favs. I'm really looking forward to seeing how she will turn out.

This project is still on the back burner due to the head being stained, being unable to find that acne cream in town easily and due to waiting on volks lottery results.

 

One thing I noticed after trying to clean the yukino head is that after a few days of sitting in the dark in a room, the stains seem to have lightened and that's with NOTHING being left on the head AT ALL. Maybe there's something in my rubbing alcohol that is working even after being washed off.

 

At the very least I hope to get a mockup of the faceup done in photoshop so this thread has something more than ref images xD

Good luck creating your dream doll. I was going to suggest HDD-03 too. When I saw the pictures I immediately thought of Yukino too

One more vote for the 03 head. I really can't wait to see how this turns out. Clannad is currently my favorite anime, and Nagisa was one of my top 3 characters.

I updated the OP to reflect my progress thus far. It isn't much though. I'll always update the OP with the progress and right at the start of the OP I will go into more detail of the update.

Oh my! I can't wait to see the end result! I LOVE Nagisa! hope everyone turns out just da way you planned!
