Doll floating heads

I put this topic here in off-topic because I want to let it be open for discussion about any type of doll. Mods can feel free to move it if they think it'd be appropriate somewhere else.

 

While I've been in the doll hobby, I've seen a lot of references to floating heads people have. Either they can't decide on a body, can't afford a body, or whatever other reason. So I'm curious: do you have any floating heads? How many? Why don't they have a body? Do you think you'll get them a body eventually?

 

At my house, we have 1 floating head. It is nicknamed "Test Subject 01". I wouldn't want a doll head to remain without a body, so in general I wouldn't want to have one. But this one was bought just for the purpose of testing faceups and such with. Test Subject 01 will never have a body, though she is occasionally mischievous and likes to jump onto any headless body in the house. Which is creepy, since she has no faceup or eyes or wig. But with her smiling head mold, she always looks happy in the temporary time she has a body.

I sadly have several floating heads. Well, they share bodies with my other girls, but for the most part... floating heads! There's actually a good reason for that: Kirino & Kuroneko are going to be DDS girls and I am patiently waiting for Volks to actually... you know, release the whole bodies instead of in parts. I am also waiting on the release of the MDDIII for a 3rd head so for now, these girls live in a box together. XD I have actually acquired another "floating head" but only sort of: I have an 06 without faceup at the moment and I plan on having a body by the time she's finished.

I have 1 floating head right now. Her cirbleepstances were- she is an 06 head and I got her when she was first available in VolksUSA, but I knew the first thing she was going to do was cosplay at a con, and also I didn't want to pay for a body when I'd be going to a con soon. Now that it's later, though, and i could get her a body, VolksUSA is out of stock and not planning to restock soon. So she will get a body at some point, but for now she's stranded.

Yes, I have one, currently my little Marta doesn't have a body, since I'm waiting for the MDDIII...

I have a single floating head with is the Volks prepainted 06, I'm waiting for more DDII bodies to come in VolksUSA (at least 2-3 months away). She's already got a closet and her name is going to be Alice. I will not be satisfied until she is complete! >___

I currently have 2 floating heads lol. One I am neglecting to paint because diablo 3 has my soul and the other was originally going to be Vivienne but then when my Neris came home the personality took over Neris and still remains unpainted ^^; even if I did get off my lazy butt and paint them I want to wait for the new bodies to be available so float on they shall >_>

I have two floating heads.

 

1) My B&G Milaya Windhunter (aka Phyla) full set came with a white skin human head as an extra.

 

2) My friend Baakay was trying a HDD-04 for a character, but ended up not liking it. She gave it to me and I use it as a test head for now. One day, I might think of a character that I want to make with it.

I don't have any floating heads nor do I want any. I don't like having non complete DD's around. I felt bad enuff having Sprout's body here with no head while waiting for her to arrive. And I *still* feel kind of guilty about the DDI body I have stored away in the closet. I can't stand that body due to it's super limited posability but I kind of feel bad about shutting it up in a box in the dark. I guess I'm weird like that.

I've lots of floating heads!

I've 13 girls, and only 6 bodies!! >_< I've to start buying them bodies before getting more heads.

Right now I'm at a record low of 2 floating heads! Juno's body is going to be enroute soon from misskale but I have a prepainted 06 head that still doesn't have a body. ^^;

I just have one floating head right now. I've already have an idea of what she's going to look like, but I'm waiting for volks to restock the DDS body parts (I kinda want to buy it in one go, but the frame is currently out of stock)

I used to have a floating head, but when I showed a photo of it to a friend he made me promise to never ever ever take photos of floating heads again. ^^

 

I guess it didn't help it was sitting on top of a vodka bottle either...

I have the opposite, I have a floating body xD

 

I have a floating body, an obitsu 50 body which hasn't had a head for a couple of years now xD it has a couple of broken parts in the hip/thigh that need replacing, but other than that it's good to go. I used to have my Yui head on it and it was adorable, I'd love to get a new head for it some day.

I have no floating DD heads, but ~6 floating Obitsu/Parabox heads. I have set ideas for all their face ups, but am waiting for better weather (trying to convince MSC that it is in a warm, dry country when you live in a damp, cold country is no fun). I don't plan to buy them bodies specifically, but want to collect a range of body types so I can do whatever cosplays I fancy with them by swopping the heads around I hope to make the faces such that they'll be adaptable to many different characters (although the first character I make them as will probably be the personality they keep). One of them will be my very own custom Mariko, and another my own custom Washu.

 

I can't see me ever buying them all bodies: I haven't the room! So at the moment, they sit on a bookcase in a row, gazing eyelessly at me...

I actually have a floating head as well -- my DDH-06 painted version. I do plan to get her a body (a DDdy), but Volks hasn't had any in stock in a while, and I'm kinda broke. Someday... For now she "sits" in her box. >.

I, too, have a floating pre-painted HDD-06! I would've bought her a body a month ago if Volks had any... She did get to borrow Natsuki's once, for a photoshoot.

I had a floating resin head for a while (as I was paying off the body) and I must say...that was the most boring thing ever

 

I wouldn't mind getting another DD head to share bodies with Hime as I love the ease of taking the head off and putting it on. But after a while I'd need another body because two dolls are more fun than one!

Wow, lots of DDH-06 floating heads. I especially feel bad for Uriko's daughters. Only 6 out of 13 with bodies!

 

 

I do think floating heads can be good though. I swear Test Subject 01, with her big goofy grin, seems to have excellent comedic value, in a creepy sort of way. Looking forward to using her in upcoming photo stories.

I have one 02 and one 06, both unpainted. They're waiting for better times, just now I'm abroad.

Had this happen with Holly for a bit, for a while after her face up completed, I had her jacking Mai's body and eyes >_>'

 

I think it only lasted a week or so.

My floating head is a resin, a School D that I got from the last NY Dolpa. I still have no idea what to do with her, two years later.

 

DD-wise, the only floating head I had was Ryomou, who was floating anywhere from 4-6 months at the end of 2009. (I have a terrible memory.) I won her default DDdy shapely bust body from a Volks News Vol. 35 lottery. So it's like I bought her doll only, just separately!

I have currently got two floating heads as i needed to sell their bodies to afford Lucy Misora.

Gee, I have a couple of them floating around. Some Obitsu heads that I practiced doing a face-up on and modding and I have a DDH-01 and DDH-02 head as well as 2 SQ Lab heads that have no face-up. I'm on hikaru's list to have a male style face-up done on one of the SQ lab heads though but I don't know which one.
