Tieren Posted May 17, 2012 Hi, I unpacked my first DD, a ver 2 Yukino yesterday. So far I've taken enough pictures to determine that I don't really understand the settings on my camera as well as I thought I did, and that dressing BJDs can be pretty time consuming! I live in Ottawa, Canada, do various jobs, and am currently a full-time student working on a PhD in engineering. I ended up on Danny Choo's website while looking for MikuMikuDance things, and ended up stalking photo stories on figure.fm for a couple weeks before I decided to get my own DD. The cost of building one with separate parts was not that much different from the character image DDs on Volks USA's website so I went with that. Also since it's the only way to get a DDIII body. I've never really been into collecting figures aside from a couple anime characters and a few gundam model kits. Growing up my Dad was pretty big on the boys don't play with dolls things, and I don't have any sisters so I don't have any experience with dolls. Currently I'm finding myself spending a lot of time messing with Yuki's hair. From looking over these forums a bit it seems the best way to display photo stories is to upload photos to flickr and then post link? Which can only be embedded when I have 20 posts? waha Posted May 17, 2012 Hello and welcome! I'm quite the camera noob myself (still learning all the knobs and whatnots). But one good tip is that if you use the flash then try to bounce on a white surface, like the roof/etc. Direct flash really makes almost all doll wigs look bad >_>; Of course, we have some very good photographers on this forum and they can probably offer more sensible advice. ^^
Nekopon Posted May 17, 2012 Welcome! You can link pictures from Flickr or wherever you upload them. A lot of us use Flickr because that's where we share all of our Dollfie's photos. As for lighting, I always use natural lighting or studio lighting. I try to avoid flash on my camera at all costs.

PlasticFantastic Posted May 18, 2012 Welcome! You making the trek next weekend to Toronto for Anime North? There's a large amount of DD owners from the GTA that will be there (many are here on this forum!) so you could get some really great tips and tricks since you're brand-spanking new into the hobby. ^_^ Not to mention the chance to check out other DD's and hang out with us! Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews!
Tieren Posted May 18, 2012 Unfortunately I haven't made any plans to attend anime north this year. I've gone in past years, and it's a lot of fun and often educational. In my experience it's pretty tricky to get a hotel room nearby without booking months in advance. And since I don't have a car, getting there and back is another can of worms. Maybe next year! JoltFiend Posted May 19, 2012 Hello and welcome! I'll echo what everyone else has been saying about being a camera noob. I switched to a DSLR last year, and I'm still learning the ins and outs of taking pictures with it. I wouldn't worry too much about it
