Who is your unicorn??

Hm...well I had 2 unicorns...but I just bought them both <_<; (Saber original and Rin)

 

I still really really want Sakuya (touhou), but thats less a matter of too expensive as opposed to "You just spent HOW MUCH on Saber and Rin, no more spending for at least a good 10-12 months"

 

Otherwise, I pretty well have all the limited character girls I ever wanted, the rest would have to be made as customs since they don't exist yet :3

Just bought both of them? Wow... that's costing you a pretty penny, unless you're lucky and got good deals. They are awesome dolls though, so I think you'll enjoy them.

uhh, "good deal" is all in perspective I guess, if you say "good deal" in terms of if one had won them from volks, then I'd say "you should get off whatever drugs you're on and go to rehab", but if you mean current prices, then yea, not a bad deal (though still not cheap), we'll see tho how understated their condition is.... :3

 

I'm quite excited to get them, already thinking of how they'll interact with my current girls xD

I'm well aware of their prices. I have a Rin (though I got her new) and I like original Saber, though I'm not willing to spend over $2,000 on a doll. But yeah, I meant compared to their market prices. Hopefully yours are in good condition. Rin's wig is a stain monster, even with cloth caps on underneath, so be careful of that. But they are gorgeous dolls.

whatever 150,000 yen x2 each adds up to is the price tag + 2 ems shipping boxes, no proxy needed.. ^^;

My only unicorn is Mariko. I think her default look is ~meh but I love how she looks in her owners' photos with different outfits, hair, and/or eyes.

 

I was thinking of just buying her head/eyes and a parabox body but I ended up winning her on Y!JA for 70,000. At the time it seemed like a good deal because before that I lost an auction that ended at 71,000 but the extra fees are really adding up. Also, I can see why SMJ can afford to charge a fixed fee when they decide what exchange rate to use.

 

I've ended up putting the entire cost on credit... hopefully the remaining shipping and custom fees aren't too harsh. And hopefully my work contract proposal for the next 8 months gets approved...

My unicorn would be Yoko I think, mostly since she was the one who got me into DDs and was the first I saw in real. I love her cute smiley face so much.

But I guess I would only get her head+body, even though I LOVE her full-set, but I'm not a Gurren Lagann fan at all so I don't care about her "real" character enough to justify spending so much for her full-set.

 

And I love all of the Sabers, but sadly all of them are out of my price-range for a DD I'd just like to have because of reasons.

 

There are other molds I also really enjoy (Alna for example), but I mostly enjoy certain features I saw on other dolls and want to make something similiar (like this lovely girl from 2chan with the long ears).

Ara, if you want Yoko, you might want to ask cgivisionary on figure.fm if his Yoko is still available. It was last time I heard. He never had her full set, just head and body, but he's selling her with a whole bunch of extra goodies. Probably a good way to get a Yoko if you don't want full set.

I've posted in here before, but I sort of "officialized" their status as unicorns. While all of them would end up completely customized, even if I like a couple of their characters, I still want them even knowing I'd be spending money on removing the default features. At least I can say I can save some money because I don't have to have all of their fullsets (I'd take them if offered though!)

 

Kanu - I adore her tan skin and she'd be perfectly fit for a character I've had stored away for quite some time. She battles for the "top unicorn" with my other favorite.

 

Rin Tohsaka - Not only do I adore all the Type-Moon DD, but she'd most likely take spot number 2 happily. (Lily is forever #1) She's the second mold I've ever really wanted, but I fear the chance for me getting just hasn't come up. ;3;

 

Beatrice - I adore her nose. She's always fighting to stay on this list though, so she gets the smallest ranking of unicorn.

 

I do have one other that is trying to sneak onto my list, and funny enough I owned once, Sakura Matou. I sold her in a cleaning out spree and have continuously gone back and wondered why I bothered. If I hadn't rushed and sold her I most likely would have had her customized and be loving her quite a lot. She's not a official unicorn, but she is trying really hard to be.

Don't they always seem to simply eat away funds faster than you can keep track?! I'll throw some fairy dust your way for good luck. Yoko is a great mold, and her fullset is also amazing. Especially her gun. *___*

The thing is, I'm 95% sure its the exact same Saber I saw in Mandarake Grandchaos (Osaka) in May, and I didn't see anything wrong at the time, so I'm probably safe.

Well, it was seeing Rin and Saber at the same time at Volks' old Akiba location by accident that introduced me to DDs at all. So you can indeed have more than one xD

Nope~ You can totally have even a good list of them. I just value "Unicorn" as something that means they are higher ranks of wanting then the regular bunch. Special in some way. Having one is better than multiple though. xD Which Sakura?! We have two now after all. xD

The Japanese like things to be in perfect condition even when it's used, so they do overstate. I just got a Natsuki v1 yesterday from Mandarake and they pointed out she had stains on her feet. It wasn't stains. It was dirt. Just had to wipe the doll off.

 

But then I will say she had actual light stains on her body and on her head that Mandarake did NOT point out so... who knows.

The Japanese like things to be in perfect condition even when it's used, so they do overstate. I just got a Natsuki v1 yesterday from Mandarake and they pointed out she had stains on her feet. It wasn't stains. It was dirt. Just had to wipe the doll off.

Exactly. Natsuki's probably worth more than I paid, so I happily will take the "dirt" discount.

 

(Random side comment for people who ever to to Japan - I noticed same really does apply to everything used in Japan. Take CDs for example. If you buy a CD with a cracked jewel case, you suddenly get a discount on it, even if everything else is in perfect condition. Spare CD jewel cases are really, really cheap, so...)

I second this and have benefitted from it directly.

 

When I was over there in 2010, I went into a secondhand shop in Osaka with a good buddy so he could help me out on stuff since I spoke no Japanese. Inside I saw a ton of DD's, they actually had THREE Yoko's. One was marked at 88,000 yen and was complete and brand new. The second one was at 77,000 and was missing her preorder swimsuit, that's it. And the last one was marked at 56,000 yen and the sign said she had stains. I asked to see her.

 

She did indeed have the typical stains from her default outfit, on her breasts and thighs and her butt. But they weren't as bad as I had seen on other Yokos. She was complete and even had the preorder swimsuit. Everything was perfect except for the stains.

 

That store also had the Gothic Lolita maid set that was for Ryomou and they were asking 9900 yen for that. I asked my friend to ask if they would help me out on the price of Yoko if I bought the outfit too at full price. My friend asked him and they talked for a bit. He went on to tell my friend that this Yoko had been at this store for 4 months now and she was always looked at but never bought.... due to her stains.

 

After some chatter back and forth, the sales guy wanted to know if I had any other DD's. I showed him pics on my phone of Manami and he smiled. He then showed me pics on his phone of his Yoko. He even gave me a business card of his with Yoko on the front and his website. He went behind the counter soon after and grabbed a calculator. He did some key punching and then smiled at me as he showed me the price he had for Yoko.....

 

48,000 yen.

 

I couldn't get my credit card out fast enuff. My buddy said the entire time this was going on, he could see me visibly shaking from excitement.

 

So by just asking for a discount and sharing that I had other DD's, I was helped out pricewise. It truly made my day.

pppffft, Saber's default dress stains her even if you look at it funny It gets worst at wrists and shoulders, 'cause thats where its tight

Haven't seen a DD body turning yellowish tho... Is that from being on display in a sunny window too long?

I kind of figured because her outfit is blue, it would stain after a while, not that concerned about it. As far as yellowing goes, I doubt it, the display case she was in never gets direct sunlight. Also..what consititutes yellowing anyway for a skin colour xD

Thats the really dumb part - Volks lined the dress!! There's lining!! but all the seams' edges aren't sewn to be between the fabric and the lining, but instead are kinda like human clothes were all the threads face your skin anyways... Why did they go thru all the lining trouble if all the blue threads at the seams touch her anyway

oh, ok now thats just silly then xD

 

oh well, staining isn't the end of the world, its usually easily removed, if not...it makes your girl unique. Its like how Feena has a bit of a blue stain on her right thigh and a bit of a nick on her foot, but its no big deal, people have markings like that too :3
