Till Troll Posted May 30, 2012 I wanted to make my girls summer dresses, and somehow ended up with a maid outfit instead! This started as a test sewing for a pattern I made using the duct tape method, then I thought I'd just add some lace and ribbon. Then some embroidery. On an apron... this was only supposed to be a quick test! The final outfit: Pretty Carrot Maid Meade! The bust seams look a little bumpy as I change them from darts to a full seam during the test sewing, and they are a little fudged. They'll be much neater in my next version, and I may even change the bust seams to be more vertical. The carrot is embroidered using Cretan stitch, but I am out of practise, so it's quite messy. Close up of the bodice area: The dress doesn't actually need those ribbons, it stays up by itself. I just thought they looked pretty. There are two tucks at the top of the skirt and two darts in the back: I didn't take any pictures, but it flares quite nicely over the DDdy rear. As this was a test sewing I sewed the back seam up. This version requires me to remove the bust to put it on. Chilling on the bookcase.... I bought some cute pink gingham fabric with strawberries on it, and a creamy fabric with dark red hearts, so I probably post quite a few dresses based on this pattern. Plus now my sewing room has it's very DD maid.
baldylox Posted May 31, 2012 My weakness.... MAID OUTFITS! I love her little apron! That is too cute! The rest of the outfit looks pretty good tho, I like the style. Nice job! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
