Saluli Posted June 4, 2012 Today, for the first time, I decided to change Beato eyes. And, both of them are cracked! There is something that I can do? Summon ritual is over. And finally complete.
mitsuki Posted June 4, 2012 I see a lot of limited eyes cracked. Ms Geek says she thinks the hot glue from putting them in might crack them from the heat. You can't tell until you take them out but they may have been cracked from when she first was put together.
Saluli Posted June 4, 2012 I was also thinking it could be the glue.... Why Volks don't "glue" ten with lots of putty? Some BJDs come with the head so full of eye putty that you could fix three pairs of eyes.... Hot glue is a pain to remove, and looks like it is dangerous to the eyes.... Summon ritual is over. And finally complete.
juu-yuki Posted June 4, 2012 They probably use glue since its a much cheaper method. It's also fast drying and once set, it doesn't move around. http://juu-yuki.com Dolly Shop: http://www.lizanna.com
milkytea Posted June 5, 2012 Volks uses low-temperature hot glue as a response to previous customer complaints about eyes shifting or falling out during shipping/transportation when set into the head with putty. I'm not sure when they switched, but it was before 2007.
juu-yuki Posted June 5, 2012 Just curious. Did you use any thinner when you were taking them out? I heard they sometimes crack like that if you use too much force or if you are not using thinners. http://juu-yuki.com Dolly Shop: http://www.lizanna.com
neurocidic Posted June 5, 2012 Same thing happened with my Neris. It was only one of her eyes though. It's irritating, as you want to preserve limited stuff and if it comes with cracks already... just blah. :/
bethykins Posted June 5, 2012 thats rubbish ): i'd be very annoyed if i found something like the, are you able to set them back in her head again with the cracks being hidden from view? I have a gorgeous family of DD girls See my profile for a list of my beauties!!
Saluli Posted June 6, 2012 I heated the head and use tweezers to pull the glue. When I removed enough, the eyes fell inside the head. I still did no tried to put them again, I am testing new eyes. Summon ritual is over. And finally complete.

With mine at least, the sratch on the one eye is in a place where it would not be seen if the eyes were in.
puxlavoix Posted September 1, 2012 Just curious. Did you use any thinner when you were taking them out? I heard they sometimes crack like that if you use too much force or if you are not using thinners. This^ Super-easy to remove them with a little bit of thinner on the tip of whatever prying tool you use, the hot glue comes off in one piece and almost by itself. Also, isnt it recomended by Volks? leitan Posted September 3, 2012 yep, it's barely noticeable at all but my DD Nia (who i purchased 2nd hand) has cracks in her default eyes. her previous owner had temporarily removed them so i suspect they may have been responsible for that. good luck with fixing yours - lucky mine are so minor i have not gone to the trouble of figuring this out, if it is possible. Pristine Crimson Posted December 26, 2012 Volks uses low-temperature hot glue as a response to previous customer complaints about eyes shifting or falling out during shipping/transportation when set into the head with putty. I'm not sure when they switched, but it was before 2007. Yes, I had a doll that was made in 2004 that had the hot-gluing on it too, so I know for a fact it goes back to at least 2004. juu-yuki Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) Lily's default eyes. They are not mine. I was going to buy them from someone but found that they have cracked, terribly. I have no idea how they got like that. A friend suggested using windshield repair to fix them. Not sure if it will work though, and not going to bother trying. Ara Posted December 28, 2012 My Yukino also came with cracked eyes :I I know that some putty is dangerous to acrylic, it can melt the eyes or make them look very dull. Chemical reactions can also let them crack, but the chemical reaction also mostly does one thing: heat the eyes up. So I really think it's the heat of the hot-glue Since one of my Yukino eyes is already cracked, I might try out on the second what happens when using hot-glue or other kind of stuff. PlasticFantastic Posted January 11, 2013 Cracked eyes are a risk in this hobby. In almost all cases I would say the cracks are a result of the temperature of the glue when Volks first puts them in. I find that removing eyes can sometimes put stress on the eye (temperature or removal, or both) and maybe this can cause a small crack to grow (like a chip in the windshield of a car). I haven't done any experimenting with crack repair. If anyone wanted to experiment they could use a freebie pair of coolcat eyes they get in an order since these appear to be made very similarly to Volks eyes. Usually I just pray that the cracking happens where it will be out of view when the eyes are put in. Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews!
