MoriWitch Posted September 16, 2021 I said no more than 2 dolls when I first started collecting resin dolls, that turned into 10 dolls over the years. Then I found Smartdoll and luckily I still only have 1 BUT then I said she needed a "little sister" so I finally got my first DDP. I thought I was done but let me tell you, I was NOT! The beginning of this month I purchased my first MDD and she is so stinkin' cute! Currently I'm sitting at 13 total dolls (there have also been other dolls that didnt stay long) and no plans to get more but that will change the minute I see the next cute girl that I feel needs to join the family. I've really been drawn more to vinyl bjds in the recent years due to their size range and not weighing as much and I can see myself getting more dollfies in the future even though its not in my "plan". I'd like to say no more than 15 total dolls but I'm not sure how I will feel about that number in the future. For the present I am happy with my crew but I'm definitely eyeing all the cute MDDs I've been seeing
ragnamuffin Posted September 16, 2021 Initially I only wanted to have one doll with me in Japan, and that was my Lil’ Fairy Erunoe. She is and probably always will be the ‘perfect’ doll to me—I love the shape, size and colour of her eyes, the colour and cut of her hair, her short stature and the chunky proportions of the Picco D body. Even now, seven years after she released, I still think she’s the best looking Lil’ Fairy and my favourite doll of all time. But earlier this year, Moon Cat Chiika caught my eye, then Koron, then Sahra, then two chuchu dolls and my 1/3 Alice, and now I can’t stop thinking about the new Harmonia bloom Beatrice doll 😍 Meanwhile Azone announced a 7th anniversary version of Erunoe, my perfect doll, so of course I preordered her. Then I found Picco Yuzuha, who looks similar to Erunoe and is the same size, so I picked her up as well, and now I’m seriously considering getting the 7th anniversary editions of Lipu and Vel too… I don’t know what my hard limit is anymore. Maybe this is something I need to start seriously considering… 🤔
chef_mai Posted November 26, 2021 (edited) My hard limit is 3 larger dolls. I'm working on the first one. Each doll is a character in my webcomic, so I'd feel pretty bad to not be able to devote adequate attention to each one. Plus, I like having them all on my desk as I work, so there's only so much room there. In lieu of more dolls, I focus on their wardrobe and props as well as articulated hands to let them use said props to the fullest extent. I have a smaller 1/6 doll I put together to test the waters, but I don't see myself getting any more in that size. Mega Negi Posted November 26, 2021 I think that I will probably hit a wall at about 10-12. Beyond that, I doubt I will have the space or time to really do them justice. Arguably, I don't have the space or time to show half of them the best treatment possible. For whatever reason, Volks USA never has DD sized stands in stock. IpLemons Posted November 26, 2021 (edited) I think total I have 33 dolls (3 are DD, the rest are resin mostly SD+ size or MSD I am a general Volks addict). I've been in the hobby for like 11-12 years now though so keep that in mind! I've become more mindful over time about buying impulses and "do I NEED (relative I know lol)" or is this an impulse buy. I have a lot of dolls I got because they were cool sculpts or interesting. My first DD I got her body for about $100 (DD3) on Y!J just to test the waters and did a custom head for her I loved her so much (they're SO lightweight compared to resin) that I turbo ordered 2B and needless to say the tan skin DDS D'COORD from mandarake was also a no brainer for me, I think the DDS is the cutest because I really like their legs!... I really want a DDP, a normal Miku, and DDDY to be a custom character of mine. At this point in my life where I have 3 rooms full of dolls, I've decided unless it is a dolly "emergency" (you know what I mean...) I will only go with my planned OC's for now (and Miku of course...) Edited November 26, 2021 by IpLemons
ChrisFhey Posted November 26, 2021 Well, I have 2 Dollfie and one resin doll, but I just agreed to take a Tea Summer smart doll off of someone's hands, so I guess my limit is now 4? Idk. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
takatsuki Posted December 31, 2021 For a year I only had one Volks DDP and thought she would be enough vinyl, but decided I needed to get a MDD to dress super cute as I’ve wanted one for years. Then I saw a picture that reminded me of a character I’ve wanted to make, but kept putting off, and…well… I have three Volks girls and way too many resin bjds. I think I’m at my limit and will need to sell some of the resin ones. Thankfully the resin bjds are yosd and smaller so they don’t take up much space. sugarbeta Posted February 10, 2022 I've given up on trying to set a specific number as my limit on dolls. Whenever I start feeling overwhelmed or burdened, that's the sign that I need to step back and reassess what needs to stay and what can move on to another home, or what maybe needs to go into storage until I make up my mind. There's only so much time in the day, and only so much room in the display case. When they start to be a source of stress or guilt rather than fun, that's a signal, I think.

I thought it'd be six, but my girls entered the lottery for Fumika DDS. They really get to decide who come in. I hate being so powerless. They are like cookies. One leads to you eating the whole dang box. 2 Circle (Towa) Yui (MDD) Coralie (MDD) 88 (Kizuna AI)
Tenukihandcrafts Posted May 3, 2022 I’ve tried setting limits but then I come up with creative ways to bend my own rules. I started collecting Gene Marshall dolls in the late 1990s and my rule was 1 of each sculpt. Once I collected those, I moved onto bjds in 2009. I set a rule to limit the number of bodies but would expand my collection with heads. That lasted until my favorite companies re-released sculpts. I tried to reign in the doll collection by going small and collecting Blythe dolls. And then a couple years ago, I saw SmartDoll. The sculpts don’t really appeal to me so I started looking into DDs and picked up my DDS. My current rule for DDs: pick a skin tone, get one of each size and then expand the collection with heads. In conclusion, just relax and let it happen. 😅
Roxanne Posted May 3, 2022 I have a display case I got especially for my dolls. The limit I put on myself was until the case is full and no more can fit. Needless to say that didn't happen and multiple dolls have already found their way into my bedroom and now live on my wardrobe there. They just have a life of their own! Keoka Posted May 3, 2022 The limit I set for myself is 4. I didn't spend years working on downsizing collections to start accumulating "stuff" again lol. Since I'm waiting on my first dolls, I may temporarily end up with 5 as I figure out the size I like best. Since clothing etc. takes up space too, my doll limit was chosen with that in mind as well. luciaxtrix Posted May 4, 2022 (edited) My interest waxes and wanes so I have a 'limit' for each type of doll that I'm into. Sometimes I'm all about play-line/plastic dolls (like Rainbow High or 1/6 Azones). Some days I'm into my anthro resin dolls. I have all of them on display but typically only 'play' with one category at a time. I have 4 categories: 1. Human, resin (all MSD) 2. Anime, vinyl (MSDs and one SD) 3. Anthro, resin 4. Plastic For those categories I seem to max out at 4 each. I can't focus on anymore. Once I start neglecting a doll in a category, or owning it feels burdensome, I let them move onto a new home. I currently have 16 dolls. I try to only own dolls that I feel like I really can't do without, and I mentally go through my collection every month or two. Angered-Icon Posted May 5, 2022 On 9/13/2021 at 12:19 PM, Xenokitten said: So for me, my limit isn't about money, but more about physical space... Same here. One thing I hate seeing with ANY kind of collection, is clutter! To me it just looks like a hot mess and you cant really get to appreciate the item/character in it's fictional space. So that said, my office is already full of figures and statues on shelves (with breathing room). They're all NSFW and I like to keep the rest of the house "safe." Mayumi (my AP) has her own little sort of doll office on my desk. And with that, no more room so no more dolls, figures or statues unless something get's boxed. Tasuke Posted May 7, 2022 with seven dolls now, -including my One True Waifu- all based on the OBITSU 26cm. doll body, i feel i've basically reached my personal practical limit. there's a little room for growth, but ATM, i currently do not foresee any. who knows what tomorrow may bring... Dolorre Posted May 7, 2022 For me, the limit is physical space. I have bookcase that I use, and the only size it can hold is 1/6 scale (which I prefer, so that's fine 😄). I don't know how many it can hold, but whatever it ends up being is my limit.
charlieriley Posted May 8, 2022 A limit? Good lord. Whatever it is for me, I'm not there yet. I stopped counting my dolls (all kinds, (almost) all sizes, resin bjds, vinyl DDs and SDs, fashion dolls, Tonner dolls, troll dolls!, play dolls....) at 100. Recently I got a box of vintage Pee Wee dolls, a favorite of my very long ago childhood, but I didn't count them yet.
Chiakisenpai Posted May 8, 2022 Ahahaha I told myself my limit was 2 in 2020. Now I have 2 plus an MDD and a DDH09 on the way AND I’m trying to get Anthy in the lottery. I’ve made a great mistake, I didn’t realize you couldn’t “just” have 1 doll

LadyLeeLau Posted May 9, 2022 Oh man, I thought for sure our limit was gonna be 30....we are now at like...40! And there are still 3 we want, and at least 2-4 customs I would personally like to have.... What are we gonna doooooo? Maybe we really need to be strict and say our absolute limit is 50! michira Posted May 11, 2022 Every time I think I've set myself a limit, I decide one or two more can't hurt... I'm certainly approaching the limit of my available space for larger dolls (which seems to be around 6 MSD sized ones for me), so in my mind that means that I have unlimited space for smaller ones!! (•◡•);
Angered-Icon Posted May 11, 2022 lol I'm gonna call it the one inch mindset. I mean...... it's just one inch. Next thing you know you have a whole foot! Then 3 feet. Then half a block, wooooah where that come from! It happens so fast. lol I feel like physical space is a better control than setting a number cause numbers are stretchy and are not absolute. A shelf, a room, an apt. or a house will not grow (with out serious money) so there is a hard limit before you start running out of comfortable living space lol. Dolls will be hanging from the light fixtures and in the fridge with coats. =O
CocosContestHall Posted May 13, 2022 My limit is partially money, because I have a lot more hobbies than just dolls, and partially space. Either way, I only buy dolls if I have been wanting them for a while.
