RedLion Posted February 8, 2013 Back in 2009 I told myself that Kihona would be my first and only dollfie and I would just get piles of clothes for her. Enter 2013 and I have Saber already with KOS-MOS and MOMO pre ordered and another on layaway from a user here. I'll be honest, I don't plan on getting anymore. I wanted a Maxima and Sakura Shinguji dollfie really bad, but, enough's enough. I don't need anymore. I'm actually giving up on figure collecting after I get KOS-MOS in. ...Now if there were to be a T-Elos soon....I'll make an exception >> Nendo Girls attack~! by Knifapalooza, on Flickr
mistyaera Posted February 8, 2013 I told myself one when I first started DDs... I just needed one girl and that would be it- my Rise-chan. .... Fast forward 4 months and Rise's not even mine anymore. D: (though I do kind of regret selling her, I want to buy her back as a full-set one of these days). I got Mariko and said "Okay. Only two." ... Then Aoko came along- but I'd sold Rise. Still, two was my limit. .... Then I got Yuki. And now I'm getting Haruka Niimi. It's a slippery slope, I tell you! I don't want a ton of dolls, though, but... they're just all so cute! Nothing here ~ Left the Hobby Previously Loved: Rise, Mariko, Yuki M., Haruka N., Aoko, Rin
DefectiveAngel Posted February 8, 2013 I found my limit with my current 8. It's a nice even number, plus I feel I have a nice variety of girls (face sculpts). Also there are always wig and eye changes to give them a different feel and look every now and then if needed. The only way I would cave is if Volks re-released Tamaki and/or Volks made a girl so incredible and highly desirable that I couldn't even begin to imagine my DD family without her. Because I honestly feel to me my DD family is perfect as it is.
Yukamina Posted February 10, 2013 I don't know my limit... I can't see myself having much more than two DDs, since they have the same bodies. But then I could have a few MDDs and a few Obitsu 50 DD hybrids, so I guess I'm in danger of buying lots more anime dollies in the future. Shailara Posted February 11, 2013 3. At least for a good few years. If I want another, I'll sell one I already own. Otherwise, nope. 3. I have to get resin babus too after all. (\_/) ( ' .' ) ( uu)
shinegamix Posted February 11, 2013 last year when i started i said only 1. now i has 4. so limits isnot helping for me making my triumphant return
Starfall Posted February 11, 2013 At least 2, but maybe 4. I was thinking a magical girl group, lol. DDH-06 - Miku, DDH-05 - Ren, DDH-04 - Keiko
Soenatte Posted February 11, 2013 Three. Strictly three. All I want is to complete my triad of characters and I'll be perfectly happy with that. Most of my dolls are resin dolls and my dollfie dreams fill specific roles among them, so~ .u. they're a lovely addition to my collection, of course I love so many sculpts and I could chase after several of them if I wanted to but I just need that many. xD DDH07: Naoshin | Yui: Eclaire | DDH10: Noah | DDH01: Mafuyu | P-chan: He Tian | Hime-Ane: Millefeuille Kaito: Sora | DDH01: Astraia | Tiamat: Ravus | DDH08: Alto | DDHo9: Leilani | DDH07: Fyodor
Bellatrix Posted February 11, 2013 Uhm... acrually I said 1, then 3, than 6. Now I have a few on the way. Now I'd say 13, as my lucky number. But I'm pretty sure I won't be able keeping my word ✩ 𝓥𝓲𝓬𝓽𝓲𝓶 𝓸𝓯 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓑𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔁 ✩
Songbird Posted February 12, 2013 Honestly, I'm just working on the one right now and I think I'll be happy with that for the time being ^^ At the max I think I'll have it be two, a DD and a DDS.
mangaemi Posted February 12, 2013 I'm really starting to seriously consider adopting both Airy and Neris which would give me 5 girls and I haven't reached the 1 year mark with Sakura, my first girl. This got me thinking - at what point will I say "no more!". I'm right there with you, I started in the summer.. and since June/July I now have a 2x MDDs (though one is in midst of finding a better face), DDS, and two DDs with a DDdy on the way... o__o Originally I was just wanting to make *ONE* character... and eventually it started to creep saying.. "well... this would be perfect to make *this* character" then it's kind of snowballed... My issue is I don't want to get so many girls that they have no room to be displayed properly or have so many that I can't actually connect and truly enjoy each one for it's own merit. My friend who is more into the full resin side of the bjd hobby.. she has almost 30 resin dolls.. that to me (which no offense to her b/c it's her thing ;D) is too many to handle.. Just b/c of the sheer amount of space to display and also it'd be nearly impossible to interact with each one regularly imo I'm guessing maybe 8 would be my limit...but then again.. I might snowball again and go way past what I originally thought I'd want.. Ravendruid Posted February 12, 2013 For myself, I originally thought 4, one of each main body type, but then I thought of 2 characters that I just have to create someday, and they both overlap with a couple of the girls I had already thought up, so maybe six, but honestly, who knows. I'm pretty slow at acquiring them for me (but seem to have no problem feeding SK's addiction) but I don't want to put a hard limit on myself. I'll stop once I think I've spread my attention out as far as it will go without anybody feeling left out. Izalith Posted February 13, 2013 I said to myself that Saber would be my only Dollfie. Then came Yuki M. And then SB Sakuya. DDH-07 is still my favourite sculpt though. Dolls: Aozaki Aoko, Kujikawa Rise, Morikawa Yuki, Saber Lily, Shining Blade Sakuya, Neige (DDH-06), Akiko (DDH-07). Selling: Lucy Maria Misora, Hagiwara Yukiho (iM@S) Wishlist: DD Shibuya Rin (1st release)
Guy9394 Posted February 16, 2013 My words lack credibility. I thought one is enough but got 5 within the year with 2 planned. I said I would have a maximum of 20 pvc figures when I started and i end up having 200+. Let's hope this doesn't happen with this hobby.
SisterKyoya Posted February 16, 2013 The sky... always the sky. The reason I say that is not because I'm a DD glutton, but because I'll know when enough is enough. I've started to settle on the fact that there are also quite a few resins I want too, but they most likely will be my display dolls (much like some people treat their Limited DD). Now that I've started to pay for the last head I was planning on buying this year, I'm starting to settle down. Now I can work on getting my current DD finished (getting 2 MDD bodies will be the biggest challenge), but I'm looking forward to seeing my family done and having time to work on their stories. I'm realizing don't have the need to want every DD. Sure there are quite a few that are on my wish list, and one unicorn, but even so I won't be miserable without them. Raven and I are lucky that space is not the issue at all and have plenty of it. I rather knew that we wouldn't have just a few because I love creating things so much. DD just happen to be the perfect medium for me. And when our DD make me so very happy and content, it is hard to put a cap on that merely for the sake of a number. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
Ruko Posted February 27, 2013 While I am very new to this hobby as I just barely have one complete DD, It is safe for me to say that I will buy as many as there are that I like. If I have an idea for an Original Character I will make her or if Volks were to release a Collaboration Character that I like then I will buy her. Some people will say that is too much or that there are better things to spend money on, But in reality if it is something you care about and enjoy and want and can afford it there is nothing wrong with spending the money. That is in fact the nature of a Hobby after all. Ebuki(SWS DDdy DDH7)
Minty Posted September 30, 2017 It was never supposed to be more than ten. Ten seemed like a good amount to have; not too few, not too many. I'm now closing in on fifteen and I will definitely surpass that amount at some point. I want to get one or two male DDs and some tan girls. I've given up on setting a limit. Eustia Posted September 30, 2017 I used to think maybe up to five was fine. Then ten. Then fifteen. Now I have sixteen and solid plans for two more. Trying to set limits doesn't work. ;.;
galatia9 Posted September 30, 2017 I originally wanted only two DDs, and I was going to integrate them into my resin doll world. But then I couldn't resist a beautiful DDH-06 head that I saw for sale, and then my DDH-05 boy who turned out to be stunning, and my cranky DDH-01 mod... and Saber... and and and... I feel comfortable with what I have now, so maybe I won't get any more...? baldylox Posted October 1, 2017 The original question was "What is your limit?" I have an answer now. Ten. I think you're confused Billy. The question wasn't asking your limit for the current month. Going back and reading my comments here, I found the above quote. And it rings so true now. Scripple had me pegged way back then. And silly me saying 10 was my limit.... little did I know what the future held for me and my DD family. Now here I am with FIVE TIMES that amount and still going. Will it ever end? I seriously doubt it. Billy 1 I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
sinclair Posted October 1, 2017 Not sure how I didn't see this thread until now. Seeing you say 10 as a limit was hilarious Billy. As me me, when I got Miku I didn't have plans for more, but after seeing MDD photos I knew Miku wanted a little sister, so I planned to get one. Then I found the Volks list of all the character dolls and saw Yaya. I had to have Yaya, and a week later she was on her way to me. So I thought 3 would be fine. Then I fell for Saber Alter and got one. Then due to the universe conspiring against me I ended up with an extra DDIII body, so of course I had to get a head, and now there were 5. Due to the MDD rule that you can't have just one, I am planning on getting another as soon as I find the perfect head. With the addition of the new standards, I fell for the DDS, so I'll get her shortly after they come out. And with the new heads and tan skin with DD Choice, I have to get a tan DDH14 somehow. That's 3 more planned to my 5. So I gave up on the limit as I knew it's just a lie. Now my wife on the other hand has just 1 coming, and somehow even with all my girls around is still saying she only needs 1 girl. Perhaps it's because she can just borrow mine...
baldylox Posted October 1, 2017 Not sure how I didn't see this thread until now. That's because before someone necroed it, it was done back in 2013. Seeing you say 10 as a limit was hilarious Billy. It's funny to me too because I can distinctly recall saying certain numbers were my stopping point.... 8, then 10, then 20 then 30. After that, I kind of just gave up because I knew there was no end to my adopting girls. So I gave up on the limit as I knew it's just a lie. Yep, that it is.... a HUGE one. Now my wife on the other hand has just 1 coming, and somehow even with all my girls around is still saying she only needs 1 girl. Perhaps it's because she can just borrow mine... My GF does the same thing..... altho she DOES get dolls occasionally, it's usually my fault tho because I buy them for her as Xmas or B-day gifts. But she definitely plays with my girls often. She likes dressing them up and helping me change them into similar clothing. Like when I wanted all my girls in their kimonos/yukatas, she was happy to help me change them all. Billy 1 I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
sinclair Posted October 1, 2017 Now my wife on the other hand has just 1 coming, and somehow even with all my girls around is still saying she only needs 1 girl. But she definitely plays with my girls often. She likes dressing them up and helping me change them into similar clothing. Like when I wanted all my girls in their kimonos/yukatas, she was happy to help me change them all. My wife does help me with mine too. I'd like to buy her more, but I learned not to at the beginning. When Anastasia was up for pre-order, I had sat her down to pick a girl to get. She made the mistake of saying she wouldn't mind having her own, so I decided to strike when the iron was hot. I pulled up all the standard models, the Idol Master pre-orders, and Snow Miku (Who as also available at that time.) to have her pick. If it had been up to me, I would of gotten her the Snow Miku (Which she was kind of leaning towards before this.) or standard model Mirai (She seemed like a nice simple quiet girl like my wife is.). But nope, she picked Anastasia, whom I would have never even looked at. So I learned my tastes are completely different from hers, and it'd be best to not to buy her any dolls she hasn't picked out. So now when they come up and sit her down and ask if she likes them, and would want one. She keeps turning them down as she hasn't got Anastasia yet. So we'll see what happens once she has her own girl. And if she honestly doesn't want another, that's fine as it won't keep me from getting more (Don't tell her I said that.). On aside, I keep teasing her that I'll buy more Mikus so that I can have each Miku outfit on a Miku doll. Then I won't have to change Miku. She just shakes her head and walks away, but I'm sure deep down inside she knows I'm just nuts enough I might actually do it. Can you see that Billy? I have as many girls as you, but 90% are Mikus!
