Face up and how to: open eyes from a close eye head.

Although the head used here is an off topic Obitsu Designer head, the process of transforming it into an open eye head is the same as for Volks closed eye heads, and I wanted to show the lidded eye effect I got from only removing part of the filled in eye.

 

I wanted this head to be a school girl 'hime' type: posh, slightly snooty, reserved and a stickler for protocol, but underneath it all quite good natured and not deliberately mean. I've included before, middle and after pictures below.

Keeping part of the formerly-closed eye makes a fantastic lid, and I think it looks nicer than when eyes are reshaped with apoxie to produce a similar effect~ You did a great job!

Do you mean the original eye lid curve above the eye? I agree! Once the face up was underway and I was blushing the eyelid I made, I was kicking myself for not sanding that part down when I had the chance. If I ever do this again, I'm definitely smoothing out that area. Maybe I'll redo her face up one day. I also should have sanded down the natural smile shape of her mouth more: I thought the paint alone would hide it, but I can see it when the shadows are right

 

These heads are very cheap (1000 yen) so quite good for experimenting different techniques with before you attempt them on a proper DD head. And the white skin used to be a good match for Volks normal, although I hear the more recent Volks normal is now a little pinker/redder.

A great walkthrough! It's a shame you usually don't see to many Designer heads out there, but I guess that makes your girl all that more special
