Rei and Asuka customs

Wow! They are a beautiful rich red. They are deep and bright at the same time. I really like them.

 

Between you and AK's approval I'll bid on these. Hopefully I win, I think they'd give a really interesting look to my Rei while being different but in character.

 

I'm not going for EXACT copies of Rei and Asuka, I think that would be too difficult. Instead I want to infuse these dolls with the essence that is Rei and Asuka, I guess kind of like a fan interpretation. I want people who love Eva to see them and recognize the characters and enjoy the artistic freedoms I took with them.

 

I hope that makes sense. ^^;

Little update! I won two auctions this morning:

 

I won the red eyes but I also found and bid on a matching set in blue - I would really like to keep the girls matching in their eyes if it looks good.

Also! I have purchased Rei's head from Volks! She will be sporting a white skinned DHH-02 for sure now. The whole shape of that mold just seems so profoundly Rei (though I think Billy's Rei has influenced that!)

 

Now just to wait for all the eyes and etc to arrive and then just waiting and paying for Asuka :3

As for your choice of an 02 head for Rei, that really makes me happy! I think that is the best representation of her that Volks offers. And I am really glad you think highly enuff of my Rei to have her influence you in any way. That means a lot!

It is a very long wait but I think it'll be worth it in the end. I am a big fan of Rei so I want her to be just right, and obviously since a limited Asuka DD is going to have her face up removed I'm hoping it too will turn out splendidly too.

I like where the rebuild is taking Rei's character so I want to try and interpret that in some ways.

I am excited even for the black head to arrive for Rei XD It'll be a while yet before she gets painted but I really want to see how the different eyes I've picked out so far look even without the paint. ^^;

I would be excited to get just a blank head too. You can never tell how eyes will work out in a head until you try them. I used to get an idea of what eyes I wanted to use, but I always change my mind once I start putting them into the head. Now I just try them out until a pair just "clicks" for me. It is surprising how differently sized all the heads are. Miu's 24 mm eyes won't even fit in DD Aoi's or DD Natsuki's head.

She's got that shy smile she had when Shinji rescued Rei from the crashed entry plug, and he asked her to smile. Only the smile you see in that illo is not in any way romantic...she's getting Obento for herself and her fellow Eva pilots. Hopefully she found something vegan for herself. Probably did, she probably wouldn't be as happy if she hadn't.

 

I have this pair of eyes as an alternate pair for Yumiko: http://www.volksusa.com/eyeani00h05.html . I'd say that's pretty much the right color. Interesting they're being modeled by an Aoi with a white wig. Although I'm sort of thinking about maybe going towards a DDH-03 head for Rei-Aleph.

 

I have always envisioned Yumiko cosplaying Rei, but after seeing Mr. Postman's Saber Alter I have had my heart set on eventually having a white skinned girl. After going through all my talespinning I'm haunted by the idea of an alternate-universe Rei. Since my Furious Five already have been through enough weirdness to last a lifetime, having an ex-Seraph as a friend is sort of par for the course.

 

And yeah, I love the movies "Wings of Desire" and "Faraway, So Close." I never saw "City of Angels" and I don't think I want to now...don't want to muddy the waters with an ex angel romancing a girl in Los Angeles. I want Rei's adventures in La Puebla Nuestra Senora La Reina de los Angeles to be totally her own.

 

Oh yeah: she could be shipped all I want with an alternative-universe Shinji...no pesky quasi-incestuous overtones since she doesn't have any aspects of Ikari Yui at all. No DNA, no soul link...maybe some weird karmic thing perhaps. It always pissed me off that Rei was sort of a sister in a typical Eva-esque weird way, because she would probably be better for him than Asuka, as awesome as she is. Now that Mari's shown up, I think maybe he has the possibility of finding someone who will treat him right. He doesn't deserve the crap piled high and deep around him. He's not a bad guy. Just someone who's had a bit more of "the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune." Why should a guy like that end up with someone who is obviously far beyond Tsundere...a real live rhymes-with-rich on wheels? I never thought he deserved that.

 

Of course, the Fujoshi would be pissed that Kaworu didn't get to make Shinji his...um..."special friend." I never rolled that way...not that there's anything wrong with that!

I'm excited for the release of the DDS body and I'm hoping for one very important detail: it becomes available in both natural and white like the DDII (and hopefully the DDIII)

 

If this is the case, I will be purchasing DDS bodies for both Asuka and Rei!

I wonder about that too. When the S-bust became available, it came out in both skin tones. Maybe that is a good sign. However, it took a while for the white skin DDH-04 to come out after the normal skin version.

Rei-Aleph is going to have to wait until DD3 comes out as white skin. However, the recent shoulder cracking incidents are enough to give me some pause. Maybe I should get a WS DD2 before they're gone...Volks, why do you put me through all this???

Do you think the DDII will be phased out? I can understand why the DDI was phased out... But I can't seem them discontinuing the white body in any case - as Mitsuki said: they've let out the S-bust in both normal and white...

 

So hopefully at the very least the DD3 will be let out in both skin tones...
