DD VS DDy - which is your favorite and why?

Which do you prefer, the standard DD body or the DD Dynamite body? How come? How did you make a decision on which body to get? Did things like clothing availability influence your choice?

 

(I hope this is the correct area to post in! Apologies if this thread has already been started or is in the wrong place, if so please delete it)

I like the normal DD bodies because they are more versatile. You can change their bust sides and also buy a lot more clothing for them compared to Dynamite. However, my favorite is still the DDS body because of the size and flexibility. They can also wear DD clothing. But DDS bodies are hard to find because they are not sold as a whole.

In my case I like both bodies for different reasons.

 

I LOVE the DDy for the wide hips and thicker thighs, it looks really wonderful and I adore the shape.

I hate however that this body is only available with HUGE BREASTS...having these myself I know how much it sucks to have them, that's why I prefer dolls with smaller ones.

That's the advantage of the normal DD, you can go from "small" to "huge".

At least it's possible with a bit of modding to change the DDy bust for one of the DDs, but still...

The only problem I have with the DDdy body is the giant breasts. I don't really care for how the L Bust or DDy bust looks. I prefer S or M bust dolls. 1) It's easier to find clothes for those size busts and 2) I think the larger busts don't look very proportionate with the rest of the DD body. Most women who have a body that slim don't have breasts that big naturally. I know there's exceptions, obviously, but in general that's the case.

I prefer the DD and DDS bodies over the DDY. For me personally I think the dd/dds is much more versatile and looks great in anything. For me, ddy dolls often look weird in a lot of outfits in my opion because their proportions are kind of strange.

 

I also hate the floating invisible push up bra look of the boobson ddy, because it looks stupid 99% of the time because people don't dress their dolls with bras on. Therefore the boobs look stupid imo. I am a big busted lady myself so boobs can be a major peeve of mine.

Appearance wise, I love the DDY a lot more. I'm really into curves, and that body has plenty of them. I should say I dislike all forms of the larger busts on the DD in general. (magic push-up bras everywhere, and weirdly placed nipples...) Whether basic L bust, shapely, or whatever. I do however really enjoy the natural bust for the DDY, but it's unfortunate that that isn't a basic item.

 

For everything else I'd choose the basic DD though, as it's an easier to dress body with more versatility to it. It's great looking too and I think the S bust is simply too cute! I on the other hand don't really care for the DDS body. I wouldn't willingly choose to get one unless I had to have it for a character, as I'll deal with any body if it fits a character. I'm too tolerate. xD

 

In the end though I can't simply choose DD or DDY is more to like. I dislike a few things and love a few things on both of them. *shrugs*

I highly dislike the DDdy bodies. I find them simply exaggerated. Ge gustibus non disputandum est, but I personally had one DDdy and I sold it in 7 days from the receive, LOL.

I don't have a favorite body, as they all have different merits and flaws. My favorite base shape is probably the DDII, but their posing is quite limited. The DDIII is so much easier to pose (and I've had no problems with cracked joints so far *fingers crossed*), but I dislike that they're a bit more "elongated." The DDII is already so tall and slim, the extra inch or so of height the III adds on makes them look almost too lanky for my taste for some dolls. By comparison, I like the body type of the DDdy--the boobs are unrealistic, yes, but you can fix that with peach pai (which hang more naturally) and the hips/thighs of the DDdy are much more to my linking, though they are a bit harder to dress. I haven't noticed a huge difference between the original and DDdyIII in terms of posing, though I think my Haruka is a bit easier to work with than Soniko.

 

If I HAD to pick a favorite, it would be the DDS. All the poseability of the DDIII without the extra height, plus their proportions are adorable. The MDD is my least favorite because it's kind of impossible to work with, though I think the MDDIII has fixed those issues.

I've got plenty of both bodies and while I admire all of them for their different forms and functions, the DDdy holds top honors for me.

 

My first girl, Manami, was a DDdy and so I was enamored with it to begin with because I didn't have any experience with any other body types until months later when I got Rei. So the bar was set there for me.

 

But since I was drawn to the DD girls due to the anime stylings they have, I much prefer the DDdy shape because it emulates anime girls more closely. Yes, there are plenty of smaller and slimmer girls in anime but the ones who get more attention are the ones with curves and breasts. Sorry but that's how it works.

 

As far as clothing for the DDdy goes, I used to have a heck of a time finding them but nowadays it's easy to get nice things for them. And I actually prefer the DDdy in clothing because the huge boobs look nice covered up. Uncovered they suffer from anti gravity issues of course, but with a low cut shirt on, the DDdy busts look marvelous.

 

I also like the regular DDII bodies and I have a few girls who I could never see as anything other than an M-bust size. I even downsized my Sango because I thought she looked better as an M-bust instead of the L-bust she came with.

 

So all in all, I enjoy the great variety you can have with the DD bodies. Heck you can even mod a normal M or L-bust for a DDII to fit the DDdy now for a nicer look with less boobs and more hips/thighs. And you can do Peach Pai which look way more natural under clothing. But when it's all said and done, I much prefer the curvy, sexy, more anime styled DDdy girls over all others.

If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the DDDyIII. All the curves of the Dy, with the posing prowess of the DDIII. Since I pretty much always have bras or tight fighting swimsuit tops on my girls, the "anti-gravity" breasts are of no real issue. I do want to get my Niimi a MDDIII L bust body though, maybe it'll be as much fun to have around as the DDDyIII?

 

Also, DDII and DDIII are not actually that different in height. If your DDIII is an inch taller than the DDII, then there are internal things in both bodies that need to be checked. Spinal alignment in the DDII, sliding hip peg section and upper/lower torso joint seating in the DDIII all need to be checked for alignment. The DDIII can potentially gain an entire 1/2" in height just from the sliding hip peg part being stuck in the down/seated position. With most things correctly aligned between the two, they should be much closer in height, as demonstrated by my Ayaka (DDIII) and Niimi (DDII) below:

I personally prefer MDD just cause they're so tiny and cute. The actual MDD body is terrible though, but the new MDD3 body does look solid.

 

In terms on DD2 vs DDdy... I like how the DDdy look, except the breasts are a bit over the top IMO. That said, they can look stunning with the right clothing. ^^

 

DDdy with a modified DD2 L bust could be something I guess.

My favorite is the DDS, MDD coming in second.

I love the way the DDS looks, I like the leg length, but I just wish it wasn't so skinny. It looks like she needs to eat something!

 

I don't really like the DDdy body... It's so wonky and un-realistic.

Plus the gravity defying boobs.

I like variety and for my girls to be on a range of different bodies (still no DDS yet though). Aesthetically I think I actually like the MDD the best, the original MDD body was pretty much fail though thankfully the MDDIII is built a lot better than the old ones were. I honestly really like both DDII/DDIII and DDdY/DDdYIII bodies quite a bit but when it comes time to shop (when/if VolksUSA ever restocks) it essentially boils down to which body would suit the character I have in my mind the best.

I would have to say I prefer the DD mainly because of how easy it is to obtain things that fit them. At first the DDdy didn't appeal to me in the slightest but then I got my Yoko and fell in-love with her so my opinion will probably change with more places making DDdy clothes obtainable.

I prefer DD, mostly because the characters I've wanted suit DD better. I'd rather like to get Yoko at some point though, so it's not a strong preference.

Of the two in the OP's question, I prefer the regular DDII body over DDdy myself. The Dynamite having different clothes options or fewer option parts are some of the reasons, but the primary reason is just that I am less of a fan of the dy body type in general (on either 2D or 3D gals). In Ah My Goddess terms, I was more of a Skuld/Bell fan than Urd fan.

 

It was easy choosing a body type for my first DD - I adopted a character model (Rin) so the choice was already made for me. Granted, the DDdy didn't exist at that time, but the point is the same.

 

I did recently try a DDdy in person with Haruka. After playing with her for a while I found my dy hunch to be accurate. She's certainly pretty, but not the doll for me.

 

On the other hand, I also recently adopted Reimu Hakurei, who came with the DD Sister body. I'm finding myself quite liking the DDS so far. It's nice to have a slightly younger gal but one that can still share all the clothes with my regular DDII. Reimu's a keeper. Actually, now that I know what the DDS is like in person, it's given me an idea for another project doll using DDS.

I feel it's not so a much a question of 'versus', but the feeling I want to project or the personality/character I want to match with the body type. I sew, so finding clothes isn't a problem xD That said, if I had to pick a favourite for looks, it would probably be a DDdy with medium/small DD bust ... and maybe with a little height modded off at the ankle?

The DDS is definitely my favorite -- I just adore it. I really hope Volks starts selling the DDS separately soon, because I'd probably "rehome" some girls onto that body (especially my incoming Rise).

 

After that, it's a tie between the DDIII and the DDdyIII. I'm not fond of the rib joint on the traditional DDIII body, and I don't like the standard breast options for the DDdyIII (just too big). If they could put a higher joint on the DDIII, similar to the underbust joint on the DDdyIII, then I'd be much fonder of that body.

Agreed! I was surprised they updated the body but didn't move the joint to underbust, it looks much nicer to me. I suppose then the old bust parts would no longer be compatible, but that's the only downside I know of.

 

Personally I love the variety of build options for DD, as well as posability which is even better with DDS and DD3. Plus there are more clothing options for DD/DDS. I probably would like DDy more if I got the new body, but right now it's hard to compete with the improved posing my DDS has. I don't mind the invisible bra though, it looks great with clothes on top :3

I second this, MDD are just allover cuteness! I can't imagine now starting with any other DD than Tamayuki even though it means having a more 'fragile' doll. I'm definitively looking forward to a better MDD body though and I can't understand why Volks doesn't have replacement parts. I've tried being careful with him but he surely isn't the kind of doll who just wants to sit on a shelf forever and I drag him all over the house with me. When I Kipped his knees I noticed that his ankles were a bit loose so I tightened them just slightly, now he has two broken ankles. I think the internal posts on the joint was already cracked and the little extra tightening finished them off. I was really surprised at how small the posts were that held everything together when I took one of his feet apart. Now I just need to find the time to go to the hardware store to get some really small nuts and bolts to fix it. *Sigh*

 

As for the DD vs. DDdy question, I liked the DD from the start but the DDdy actually made me a bit ill for a while when I saw them. Being so over-exaggerated and with boobs you can't ignore at all, I just couldn't fathom why Raven wanted one. (Yes, sometimes the obvious does elude me.) It was very hard for me not to see them as really creepy and nothing short of pervert magnets. All I could think of was a 50's pinup girl calendar hanging in a dirty garage/auto shop and some car grease-encrusted old guy with beady eyes, making a very unappealing picture in my head. This made the DDdy seem like they were intended for those who just wanted girls like Jessica from Who Framed Roger Rabbit, something that didn't appeal to me in the least, they didn't seem innocent enough for my preference. I think Raven was initially put off a bit by their over-developed proportions as well, but knowing him he was probably intrigued by them as well. Manami and Miss Agatha were the two most significant DDdy ambassadors that helped me see the doll more for the personality than the figure. Manami, while she does have her strong yuri vein, she still strongly maintains her adorable cuteness without falling into the squik category. And Miss Agatha has her delightfully mighty brains and clothes to be envious of without her 'attributes' spilling out, who just happens to be a DDdy. Those two combined with me realizing that the DDdy would make a wonderful Victorian lady with a DDS handmaiden finally started to change my mind on how I percieved the Dynamites. Raven's Yuriko has done her part in that respect as well, she really is a good girl but really longs to be a tease for the camera and have a fuller figure to fill out all the clothes she continually requests to have made for her.

 

As for just the DD, I liked them from the beginning when Raven showed me Danny Choo's show where all the daughters were on display. It really floored me. Even with the DD though I tend to like the M or L bust because of the added curves that make it more fun in designing clothes. Is there many DD S busts? Has anyone ever put an S bust on a DDdy? If it was possable that girl's last name would most likely be Caboose.

 

From personal experiance I really do prefer the MDD at the moment over the DDII because Tamayuki can touch his face without having to partially pull his arm out like I have to do with Yuriko, and photography highly impacts what makes any of the DD fun for me. Other than that I think the body preference really has to do with the individual personalities of the girls more than something slightly arbitrary like boob-to-hip ratio.

Both are nice but I prefer the dd more than the dy. dd seems more proportionate to me. Haha. But I'm not saying that I'm not planning on adopting a dy in the future.

I like both, got Haruka love the DDDy3. Finding clothes for DDDy used to be a pain but now it’s a non issue.Will definitely add more of both to my DD family:D

I love the DDdy for obvious reasons.. , but I also like how outfits look better and sexier on DDdys and they seem to photograph better at least to me. Now if only Volks would restock some more DDdys.

I honestly can't pick one. When i got Aoi, i bought a DDdy body cause i was planning on using it, but once i got her home, i decided to have her stick with her DDII body. I didn't make that decsion cause i don't like the Dddy body, but rather i thought the DDII L bust fit her better. Really i think it depends on what kind of character your making, should you decide what body you are going to use. I personally don't think one outshines the other.

My 1st DD was a Dynamite and it is still my favorite. In fact, I once said that I wouldn't have a small chested doll.

 

Well, I have several now...small, medium, large and Dynamite. I love them all. One of my favorite combinations is the large shapely bust on a DDS body.

 

But Dynamite will always be my favorite. I adore curves. Too many dolls are stick figures.
