New Soft Head Caps

Recommended Posts

mitsuki

As scripple mentioned before, the Shining Hearts Dollfie Dreams will have soft head caps. Here are some photos from the DD blog:

The head cap looks the same on casual inspection.

However, the material is soft.

The soft head cap allows for easier removal and is ideal for anyone who likes to change out eyes frequently.

The bottom part of DD heads will still be made of the harder previously used material.

IS IT STAIN PROOF!?!?!?!?

Just kidding. It's probably not. I don't know how to feel about this although I will probably be happy to skip using a hair dryer to get my girls head caps on and off. ^^

Yeah, that seems kind of counterproductive... I guess we'll just have to be extra-careful with them. I think it's worth it to not have to wrestle with taking them off! Also those look SO much fun to squish.

I agree about this seeming counterproductive. But the squishy looks like fun :3

I've only ever really had to remove Elle's headcap - we leave Saber alone - and my fiance is able to get it off without the need for heat (though we always keep a hairdryer handy just in case.)

Does anyone here notch their headcaps?

I notched my blank DDH-02 head, since I gave her some temporary eyes. It's much easier to get off. I'll probably notch my pre-painted DDH-01 I'm getting next month, since I plan to try out a lots of different eyes on her. I haven't had any trouble getting Aoi's head cap off without a hairdryer though. Which is good, I don't have one...

Well I'm sure the softer head cap is more prone to stains. But maybe if Volks can make the head cap standard and available as optional parts then there won't be so much of an issue. When it gets really bad, just buy a new one. The advantages of such soft caps is that you can open it easily to swap eyes and so on. The current head cap are so hard to open. Yes you can cut slits into the head cap to make it a bit easier. But I'd rather have my DDs the way it was. I avoid changing eyes that frequently precisely because it is so hard to open. If the head caps where soft like this, it would be very much a different story.

I notch every customized head I sell. it's quick, easy and makes getting DDH-03 on and off MUCH easier. I can work DDH-02 without having to use heat but the 03 can give me extreme trouble. I had to get a pair of man hands for that one!

I just notch it twice, symmetrically on the front using an x-acto knife. I think I've seen people notch 3 or 4 times but I don't think that's really necessary. I probably would do this to any LE heads just for the sake of... I don't know.... collecting? When ordering heads a lot of folks request the service so it saves time and trouble. I didn't expect it to be a popular mod but people have told me it's one of the reasons they buy my girls!

I'm bummed it stains more easily but maybe by offering cheap replacements you can just get rid of your stained one and have a fresh, new head cap any time you want. Doesn't look good for those of us hoping they were going to offer an alternative material... instead we get cheaper replacement parts. Hmm.

The problem with making this available as a replacement part is the head caps aren't standard sizes.. They'd need to offer a variety to cater to all the head molds - Though I think they could get by just selling them with the basic 4 molds the offer..

I'd really like to see Volks let out a few more blank face molds for us to work with.

i think its a good idea to make the caps easier to remove but making it worse for stains is just playing into the Evil Corporation mindset. Offer new things up that get damaged quickly so you can sell more. Turds.

Anyways, I notched all my girls caps, makes it so much easier to get them on and off. One notch on each of them was enuff. But I have huge bear paws for hands so I can grip them quite well.

I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

One of the things I love about Obitsu and dislike about Volks is the PITA hard head cap. Even after you do the wedge mod it still requires prying.

It would be nice if Volks did replacement head caps for the standard four head types, at least. The DDH-04 in particular is a bear. They make those with a lot thicker vinyl than the other three.

DD-03 headcap is a big pain, too. I put about 5 notches in mine and still have to wrangle it. But at least now I can get it on/off without popping the eyes loose, most of the time.

I'm thinking a soft headcap, even with higher stain potential, is not a bad trade off. Or they could go the resin route, and just add magnets...

I find Yumiko's headcap easier to remove than Namiko's. But yeah, they're all annoying. Hence, my idea that there should be replacement "option head caps" made for DDH-01 through DDH-04.

For those having problems with getting the head caps on and off, use a hair dryer on the head for ~45 seconds and you can get it on and off without issue. I haven't had to notch any of my heads and they come on and off with incredible ease after using a hair dryer.

Somebody on Figure.fm is saying that the new headcap makes getting tight wigs on a nightmare. Between the staining and the fact that apparently the stock wig is really tight, I don't think I'd even take the stock wig out of the package with Neris.

Actually, if we get her, we probably won't unpack either the wig or the costume.

Do we have an update on this now that people have their girls? No one has posted any complaints but if people have noticed a difference then I would love to know about it.... perhaps there is another thread I am missing?

I've had some trouble getting wigs on Airy, including her default wig. It can be done, it's just annoying.

Is it just floppy? Sorry if that's a dumb question... I can't imagine how you'd compromise the head with soft vinyl....

What troubles are you having with Airy? I don't find her head and her default wig to have any size issues - if anything the wig is a bit loose on her head and slides around a bit when I pose her, so I put a silicone wig cap on her.

My Airy's wig seems a bit tight, and the softer headcap seems to work against me when I put it on her. The wig fits fine on some of my other girls though, and the wig Airy is currently using matches with Kudo's pretty well, so it worked out ok.

Haven't had too much trouble with Neris besides her default wig, which is just on the small and not-so-stretchy side. With a wig cap it's a tight fit but do-able for most wigs. Without a cap they go on pretty easily, though. No stains yet!

I like the softer head cap, it really is an improvement. I no longer have to use the buter knife to remove the head cap, yay! The Neris wig wasn't easy to put on at all, like Jadepixel said. It just doesn't stretch enough. My Neris does have a few stains around her head cap though, but I'm sure it's from where I kept that dark wig on her too long.

I hope the new Sabers come with soft headcaps. I don't want to cut slips in my headcaps anymore

They will - it's the new "standard." Even the blank option heads are going to have the soft headcaps (once Volks depletes their current stock of the hard vinyl ones). The newly released HDD-06 has the soft head-cap, as do the renewal versions of Aoi & Yukino
