Nakitaninja Posted April 19, 2011 So, yes, I have become obsessed with avoiding work and looking up things on the 1/3 scale. It's entertaining and I am hoping some day to find some nice props for may girls. I would encourage anyone to post whatever they find in the 1/3 scale and let's discuss! This is somewhat inspired by G-tim's post on the 1/3 car. I am hoping we can find food items, home goods and all sorts of 1/3 wonderfulness out on the web or as close to 1/3 as we can get. If you wind up doing business with these people or own the product, it'd be rad if you'd add a link in the vendors section! Thank you in advance~ (I'd throw these links in the Vendor section but some/most of it is unattainable & just for fun or I've not dealt with the vendor before.^^) Vehicles: I'm not sure if there's a cockpit (<--- I can't say "cockpit" on here? THE PLACE WHERE YOU SIT IN A PLANE IF YOU ARE DRIVING/FLYING IT*) but if there were, then I am guessing a DD could fit in it. I've never seen such a large RC helicopter before but then again my experience is limited to the mall and the annoying people trying to sell them from kiosks. This thing uses a 250cc motorcycle engine (same as my vespa ^^) to power it. It's pretty extreme and the video has bonus cute kid footage. I also like that a crowd has gathered to watch the event. ^^ Of course there is the world of 1/3 planes.... which is really odd to me but then I don't have room to talk. One of the 1/3 models I found: https://www.quicktechhobby.com/Airplane/BALSA%20USA/ercoupe.htm Furniture: Gorgeous scale furniture- some of which Beato would look very nice on! ^^ Ignore the uggo American Girl Doll. <-- I might catch flack for that comment but I really think they are ugly... I also had Cabbage Patch kids growing up so.... yeah. http://www.kingwilliamminiatures.us/bespaq13scale.html Animals: Horses! The dimensions should work for BJDs though I am not sure how a DD would look. ^^;;;; I really like the second one better but he's a bit shorter so... there ya go. I know someone was making a horse specifically for bjds, I just don't know if it actually happened or not or if it ever was for sale. 25 inches: http://www.mytwinn.com/My_Twinn_Pets/Pets/Dolls-My-Twinn-Horse 20 inches: http://www.amazon.com/Our-Generation-Thoroughbred-Horse/dp/B000H3DYGM/ref=pd_sim_t_2 FOOD! Some of these items may be a little small... but I think they would still look good. ^^ http://www.dollclothesstore.com/Doll_Accessories/Play_Food.htm I think the Japanese milk is the cutest! http://www.dollclothesstore.com/products/FOOD/FOOD-30.jpg *C.O.C.K.P.I.T. PlasticFantastic Posted April 19, 2011 A great idea for a thread!!! Billy might be able to weigh in more about 1/3 scale RC vehicles since he's had a LOT of experience in the hobby, and I'll pick future-hubby's brain tonight about it as well. I have one of those Canon SLR flashdrives/mini camera models. They're just a bit off from 1/3 scale but they work really well for DD and are INCREDIBLY detailed for their size. (They can also be quite expensive!) There's a lot of listings on eBay for them, and since they were a promo item they aren't really available in stores. Be careful since there's a lot of cheaper less detailed versions of these SLR's out there, you'll have to spend a bit of money to get one that's good. I contacted Natalie at Dollfie World to get mine. Sorry I can't be more helpful and provide much in the way of links! Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews! Galvatim Posted April 19, 2011 This is a really fun thread! i found a few other 1/3 scale items when I found that awesome car. Here's a ton of heavy firepower... http://www.metalcraftbyblair.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=10_220 M-60s, M-16s, even and RPG! But if none of those guns are powerful enough for your daughter needs to "defend the home", you can always search eBay for one of these: http://www.tfu.info/2004/Destron/SmallestMegatron/megatron.htm Might want to set Megs to "cartoon" level power, to avoid causing too much damage... The other Transformers in this series look in-scale with Dollfies as well. (And Soundwave makes a nice DD scale tape deck!) There are some 1/3 scale dinosaur skull replicas out there too! http://tyra-rex.com/Dinosaur/OBO/obo4.html You'll have to scroll a bit, and really, you could probably use any small scale replica for your paleontological leaning Dollfie's collection. The right dinosaur skull replica could certainly spice up your girl's desk or book shelf.
baldylox Posted April 19, 2011 Well now, this could be fun! As far as RC stuff goes, anything in the 1/3 scale realm would be gas or nitro powered and those things get NASTY dirty. No way would I ever get one of my girls near a 1/3 vehicle. Unless of course it was a brand new street car like a NASCAR or Dirt Track racer.... THEN my girls could be Race Queens! Posing all over the hood and such would rock! But that size of RC vehicle, especially anything like a copter or plane, make our costly DD's look like gashapon items. We are talking literally thousands of dollars. I can guarantee that HUGE chopper in the video above ran well over 15,000USD. The engine alone in that monster would run 4-5 grand. Ah but we can dream... By the way, I have seen a 1/3 scaled motorcycle that looks like a Harley Davidson around. I can't find one locally anywhere and I dont know if its RC or not. But it sure looked good and I would love to have one JUST so I can have my Race Queens posing all over it. Ok, HORSES! A subject I know much about in the real world having grown up on a horse farm where we raised and bred Appaloosas for years. The American Girl horses look pretty good but they *are* flocked. Flocking can stain a DD pretty fast from what I hear but I am not 100% sure about that. Maybe the light colored ones would be ok. The older styled AG horses are NOT flocked and have a smooth finish. They are almost the perfect size for DD's as a pony. It seems somehow one of them ran loose in my house once and Yoko and Manami caught him! That's a project my Mom is working on for me. She intends to turn that Palomino into an Plains Indian Appaloosa war pony complete with feathers in its mane and tail and spots on his rump. She is finding paints for him now. No clue on when this will get finished but I thought I would share so you can see sizes of the DD's next to one. Here are the newer ones: Regular version - http://store.americangirl.com/agshop/html/item/id/141642/uid/267 Appaloosa - http://store.americangirl.com/agshop/html/item/id/140937 Palomino - http://store.americangirl.com/agshop/html/item/id/141275/ctc/XSCOORD FOOD ITEMS: I have found that lots of the Japanese erasers make wonderful food items that are in scale with the DD's. I just got a bunch of them in from a friend ( Thanks Scripple! ) and they rock. Here is a good place to find them: http://www.thinkfasttoys.com/home.php?cat=1121 Here are some in relation to Manami and her sisters: In the second image you can see sushi, some drinks like milk and grape juice and even little chopstick sets in cups! Those are awesome by the way! The cans of soda are actually lip balm I found in Walmart. They were like $1.50 each and come in all sorts of flavors like Dr Pepper, Mt Dew, Pepsi and some others. While not as cool as the DSLR cameras eveyone has, I did find some decent ones CHEAP locally at "Books A Million". Check out the later pics in this post I made over on Figurefm. The little camera Mai is holding was THREE BUCKS! It even lights up the flash and makes camera clicking noises! Very cool for 3 bucks. http://www.figure.fm/post/en/25011/Dollfie+loot.html You will also see some stuff I found at Micheals, the craft store. They don't have a ton of stuff but they do have nice things on occasion. I mean, they had stuff to make Nekomimi tails!! That's all I have right now. I'll dig aorund some more and see what I can find. Excellent thread by the way! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. MaxArcher Posted April 19, 2011 Don't buy the food erasers from a BJD site, they rip you off. They're made by a company called Iwako, searching for Iwako Erasers will come up with a ton of sellers, including on Amazon. Also, if anybody's lucky enough to live close to a Kinokuniya (Japanese bookstore) or a Marukai supermarket, they have tons of them. We just got a bunch for like .89 cents each last weekend. Be aware, by the way, that they're not all a good scale for DDs. They're all basically the same size, about an inch, so smaller stuff, like drink bottles, donuts, taiyakis, cup noodles, anything that's smaller than about 10" at full-scale, works pretty well, but larger stuff like bento boxes, cakes, large pastries, sports equipment, and so on are noticeably undersized. baldylox Posted April 19, 2011 Yes, the Chinese knock off erasers arent nearly as detailed as the Iwako ones I linked to. And in that link they sell them for 90 cents each, a bargain compared to some BJD sites that charge upwards of 4 bucks each. Nakitaninja Posted April 19, 2011 *swoon* That.... is.... so.... cute. Your family is awesome and the food looks great! Thank you everyone for all the amazing links! I've been trying to tear myself away from the forum and there's always something fantastic around every corner. ^^ I've seriously just spent time browsing and looking at all the expensive gear. Additionally, I have to say... (from G-tim's link) GEOREXCONSTRUCTION by dollflip, on Flickr GEOREX FTW! All you need is around $400 bucks for Georex and then ninja outfits for your DDs which would equal THE MOST AWESOME PHOTO STORY EVER. (<---Also a vague Venture Bros reference though it's a debatably awesome idea on its own.)
Galvatim Posted April 19, 2011 I have to pick up some DD size food! I've had an idea for a DD picnic. Baldylox, I read about some 1/3 scale motorcycles today, but haven't seen any. Toys R Us didn't have any. Georex does look pretty cool! Wouldn't we need a cowboy too? I thought the t-rexes were ridden by cowboys, if I thinking of the right episode... I'm almost certain I saw a 1/3 velociraptor skeleton replica for about $250, but I can't seem to find it now. It was probably just a mis-labeling of this item: http://www.healthstones.com/dinosaurstore/dinosaurskeletons/velociraptor/velociraptor.html No one seems to make many big toy dinosaurs, so it'd be tough to find an actual1/3 scale one as a pet/mount. No adventures of Aoi-chan and the Raptor Riders yet... (Speaking of Rider, we need a 1/3 scale Pegasus) My girls do have some cute little rats to keep as pets: 005 by galvatim, on Flickr Mari has one in her hand. Pretty good scale. Nakitaninja Posted April 20, 2011 I went to the Iwakousa.com site and I almost had a nervous breakdown. It is amazing! I had completely forgotten that I collected erasers as a kid. I... want to buy them all.... I stopped thinking about the 1/3 ratio and I just wanted all the animals, food, etc I can buy. I need an army of erasers for no apparent reason. Oh no.... >_< Needless to say, thank you all for the links. This is too awesome. T-T Also... "Rei - "Hey Manami, remember you saying you didn't know what a lobotomy was? PlasticFantastic Posted April 20, 2011 Are there any good places to buy 1/3 swords for DD? Nakitaninja Posted April 20, 2011 Ask and you will receive! I searched for 'katana letter opener' in google and there's a bevy of 'em on amazon! I admit some of those things are so detailed and cool it's hard not to get them for their own sake. But I'd rather have the food items so my girls can eat well. Lord knows Manami enjoys them. jun97 Posted April 20, 2011 (edited) Aoi asked me to post pictures of the rest of her collection: The swords are all Hanwei miniatures that I got for $20 each. I don't think they are all quite 1/3 scale, but it looks close enough. The hilts fit fine on the sword hand, but I feel the blades are kind of short. I ordered them from my favorite online sword store: http://www.kultofathena.com/miniatures.asp I also got the suit of armor (also Hanwei) from the same place through special order. The armor was kind of expensive though... This is what Aoi spends my money on. Edited April 21, 2011 by Guest
