BlueShuShu Posted July 5, 2012 Ok, few questions.. 1.What do you use to carry your girl/s around in when taking them out? 2.Where do you store your girls things when they are not in use? E.g. Drawer/box etc. 3.Where do you put your girls when they are not going out? Thankyou
archangeli Posted July 5, 2012 1. What do you use to carry your girl/s around in when taking them out? It depends on the outing and how many girls I'm bringing 1 doll: she gets wrapped in a white pillowcase, bent into a sitting position and put in a big tote bag. Depending on the doll and what kind of wig she has I sometimes put a faceguard on, and sometimes remove the wig - but not all the time. For a curly or comlicated wig (like Saber's) of course I remove the wig, but if it's a straight one, I usually don't bother. I just straighten it and brush it when I take the doll out. 2 dolls: Volks carrier bag. Love this bag so much - it's white on the inside so I don't have to worry about staining and it has lots of pockets inside for things like a doll stand, shoes, wigs, etc. It's also quite comfy to wear on my back if I have to take the bus or subway. 2.5 dolls (i.e. 2 DD's + 1 MDD get the same treatment as 2 dolls. The most I've ever taken out at once was 5 - and it was to a Dollfie Dream panel at a convention. I wrapped 4 of them in pillowcases/ towels and put them in a 4-wheeler suitcase and wheeled them around. The more fragile one was padded with lots of bubblewrap, pillows and was transported in the Volks carrier bag. 2.Where do you store your girls things when they are not in use? E.g. Drawer/box etc. All my doll stuff is in storage tubs that I got at Costco. They are semi-transparent so I can see what's inside of them. I don't think I have a very good system so I'll try to re-organize them at some point. There's my "SD16 girl" tub for sure, and my "Fate/Stay Night stuff" tub but the rest are kinda random. I have my wigs in a drawer, in their original packaging since it makes it easier to stack them (but it's still a bit messy). The Volks outfits I'm not using at the moment get tucked back into their packaging, slipped onto a coat hanger and hung on a couple of coat hangers and stored in my closet. I can fit about 10 outfits on a hanger. Stuff that's off-season gets put in the closet (like kimono's, winter clothes, etc). 3.Where do you put your girls when they are not going out? They all hang out in a corner of my desk. Some sit, some stand. I like to be able to see them and enjoy them. This is what's going on in my doll nook at the moment - it's just a peek until I get the right shot I want Archangeli.net | Twitter: @MsArchangeli | YouTube: Archangeli
BlueShuShu Posted July 5, 2012 thankyou for super explanations, I currently only have one girl, but hopefully will get a proper job now that ive finished college, have been looking at the volks bag and is nice to hear good review for it Not sure what a costco is but I understand what type of tubs you mean, so will have a lookout for some, i've seen lots of these so must be useful. My girl currently sits on my bookshelf x.x but always worried about dust or her falling but if you sit your girls like that then must be ok
Anna-neko Posted July 5, 2012 1.What do you use to carry your girl/s around in when taking them out? I've only ever taken out Mari, a MDD and she fits almost well into my normal bags. She'll either kneel in a mini-backpack, or sit with her knees tucked up in a sorta messenger-sized bag. Wrap her up in a towel, take the wig off and out we go! 2.Where do you store your girls things when they are not in use? In a drawer, just all piled in there. Each outfit is either in its original baggie, or one of those lil sandwich ziplock baggies, plus all sorts of small things (food, camera, hair things) spread over a couple small boxes (decorative soap box!! It has a magnet cover and fits so much junk inside) 3.Where do you put your girls when they are not going out? Either in corner of my desk, or on top of the couch cushion
slmka Posted July 11, 2012 1.What do you use to carry your girl/s around in when taking them out? I only have one girl with me, currently I am using CoolCat carrier bag for the job. Only downside their accessories bag is a bit small and wont be able to carry much stuff. 2.Where do you store your girls things when they are not in use? E.g. Drawer/box etc. I have Diaso No. 1 boxes for small stuffs, they are transparent with clip locks. Not really strong, but they are stackable and transparent. So I know what are the contents inside. For outfits which can be fold I keep them inside a transparent double size shoe box from Diaso also. 3.Where do you put your girls when they are not going out? I still store her together inside the CoolCat bag. But she sleep inside with her undergarments only. Till Troll Posted July 16, 2012 1. Like Archangeli does, I used a white pillow case and fold the doll into a sitting position. I've only ever transported 2 dolls at a time, and so far, I've just used this method. 2. I have a display cabinet (Smadal, Ikea) I keep the dolls in, and it has a drawer I use to store the majority of my doll bits and bobs. I have a few other boxes with wigs and other props that don't fit in this drawer, and a box of clothing projects on my sewing desk. My dolls have outgrown the drawer, so I am thinking of other storage soon: I've got many doll parts and heads in two plastic bags hanging on hooks, and that just doesn't seem right. 3. I keep my dolls in the Ikea display cabinet mentioned above, and keep a couple posed on my computer desk (I have a sofa there). I may have a project for an old, pretty wardrobe I've outgrown to turn it in to a 1/3rd and 1/6th scale doll house (for one floor each, is just a bit too short to be two story for 1/3rd scale), but I am still dithering over that one. (it would be a big project, and will take up room, but it's big enough for a lovely diorama, and has shelving up one side for doll things storage, so I am severely tempted). Until (and if) I actually do that tho, I've got 2 other dolls currently lying on my sewing desk as I've run out of room in the cabinet.
PlasticFantastic Posted July 30, 2012 1.What do you use to carry your girl/s around in when taking them out? Generally I take 2 DD girls out at a time, sometimes along with an MDD. I use one of the Volks SD carrying bags if this is the case, for up to 4 DD girls and 2 MDD's I own two of these bags and they can carry everyone adequately. If I was doing something major I would be inclined to use a suitcase, but I have not done this yet. 2.Where do you store your girls things when they are not in use? E.g. Drawer/box etc. All of my girls' things are stored in tubs that I bought at the hardware store and IKEA. Most of the goodies are in the bottom of my closet and some are on a shelf. I've organized them by Volks items, default sets, wigs, bits and bobs, shoes, other clothing, accessories... I just reorganized not long ago so it's pretty nicely laid out. 3.Where do you put your girls when they are not going out? All of my girls stay where I can enjoy them and where they're safe from my cats' endless curiosity: A shelf above my bed! (and also on top of a display case next to the bed) Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews!
waha Posted July 30, 2012 1.What do you use to carry your girl/s around in when taking them out? I have one of those Volks carriers that can fit two girls. I haven't actually had a chance to use it yet as the weather this summer has been a joke so far. (Sunny when I'm at work, rainy when I'm off). Always wanted one of those violin cases though, but I feel they're a bit expensive. 2.Where do you store your girls things when they are not in use? E.g. Drawer/box etc. I have an Ektorp footstool from Ikea with quite a bit of storage inside. I store all my clothes there. Then I have two larger boxes for wigs, and some small ones for eyes/underwear/jewelry. 3.Where do you put your girls when they are not going out? All my girls have their respective places in my apartment. My MDD army sits on a shelf above my desk, and my two DDs have a place ontop of my speakers. I don't get much sunlight into my apartment so I feel confident having them out all the time.
Mahoro Posted July 30, 2012 1.What do you use to carry your girl/s around in when taking them out? 1 DD/Dy/MDD: I just use my shoulder messenger bag with an upgraded strap. My girls are always in a sitting position wrapped in the plastic their boxes or themselves originally came in almost always sitting on top of my camera stuff. When I was on vacation with Feena, I had a foam framework for my camera, so Feena would still sit on that even when my camera was out, plenty of space to pull the camera out without taking her out, the stand also fit in the main pocket along with the box of hands. 2 MDDs: Same as above, only one sits on the lap of the other Any other configuration: Put in the plastic as described above, then wrapped in a towel, and placed in a medium sized sports bag. So far the most I've ever taken outside at once is 3 (Feena, Haruka and Kud at the same time). 2.Where do you store your girls things when they are not in use? E.g. Drawer/box etc. In the multitude of Volks bags from my trip, I keep wanting a better place but haven't figured it out yet. Anything before May 2012 however is usually stored in a sidetable shelf under my desk. 3.Where do you put your girls when they are not going out? On my desk as shown in the image. Too much hassle to put them back in boxes, as I play with them randomly, and I have 6 <_<; Also, it seems kind of mean to stick them in boxes just cause they're not being played with. On the contrary, they ALWAYS look cute, so having them out is always a plus, so they get to stay on my desk!
Ravendruid Posted August 2, 2012 For carrying, I have a large messenger bag that Yuriko rides in, along with my camera, after being wrapped well in a white t-shirt. It's a bit cramped, and I'm sure not terribly comfortable, but she doesn't complain much, since she gets to go out so rarely, and it's always worth it. For clothing, she doesn't have much at the moment, so it mostly sits on a part of our fabric shelf, but a few years ago, SK made several hangers for AG doll clothes out of wire, and they seem to fit our DD clothes pretty well, too, so we plan on installing a doll clothes rack into our closet soon. As for the doll herself, when she's assembled (one of the problems with having 4 heads in the household and only 2 bodies... (Hurry up, Volks!)), she sits on my bedside table when I'm not actively playing with her. Daddy of: Yuriko, Sohi, Miku and SK's many kids
ovada Posted November 9, 2012 It's my first time taking mine out, but I put her in a sitting pose- wrapped her up and put her in a towel filled bookbag. I'm sure she deserves better though XD

I'm sure she deserves better though XD This is pretty much what I do with Yuriko, but I'd like to get something more comfortable for her soon. I just don't take out often enough for it to be a high priority. Daddy of: Yuriko, Sohi, Miku and SK's many kids
RaveOfNightmares Posted November 18, 2012 1. How I carry them around: I once wandered around Tokyo with 2 of my girls wrapped in a towel standing in my backpack and Mio sitting in my hand the whole time. Currently I have 2 doll carriers from Coolcat, a single (which can hold 3 girls in a pinch), and a double (which I've managed to fit 4 into before). 2. Storage of their stuff: I used to keep their stuff in a huge box. Now I have some plastic drawer sets to keep most of their clothing in, along with a dresser drawer. Their "doom couch" stays sitting on the floor. 3. Where the girls stay when they're not going out: Wherever they please in my room, within reason of course, considering there are 18 of them. 21 DD girls: Mio, Marina, Yui, Yoko, Nia, Lily, Arisu, Akina, Momo, Arisa, Yukina, Ayaka, Niimi, Eri, Millefeuille, Ekisu, Chitose, Miyabi, KOS-MOS v.4, Hatsune Miku and God Eater Alisa. 2B in a hopeful future.
