Saber.... Lily?

Ok, not THE Saber Lily but my Saber WITH a lily!

 

I took these a day after she arrived and just hadn't gotten around to posting them yet. I wanted to have her pose with a lily out in fornt of my house before it quit blooming...

This is a Day Lilly of some type and I transplanted a BUNCH of these from my parents house over 5 years ago.

I planted them and several years went by with no blooms at all. I was quite puzzled by why they wouldn't bloom for me no matter how much attention I gave them.

When Manami first arrived 2 years ago, ONE of the Lilies finally bloomed! It was like it was waiting for her to show up. I mean really, the day after she arrived, it bloomed!

But that was still only one plant that bloomed out of at least ten or so I planted.

The next year, another one flower bloomed for me, just after Mamimi arrived here.

And now, another season passes and another flower blooms... this time the same day Saber Extra arrived!

This year I had three of these plants blossom for me and the newest one came first. This plant had yet to ever produce a flower so I found it completely awesome that it timed itself for Saber's arrival.

THIS photo is my absolute favorite of the group. Saber looks so gorgeous here. Her colors are just outstanding in this setting.

What a great setup! You've got the complimentary colors of the green plants against her red dress, plus the reddish-orange lily echoing her warm-tone hair and dress. . . Really lovely. (Especially all that green! Everything out here's been really brown lately; frankly I'm surprised that all those wildfires are in Utah and Colorado instead of here!)

 

I think I may have to pick up one or to of these shots as wallpapers when I get home.

Thank you very much! I just really like having my girls posing outside with greenery and flowers. They always seem to compliment each other so nicely.

 

It's been pretty dry here too but I water my flower beds twice a week so they tend to stay nice looking. I'm trying my best to make sure I get a good crop of Spider/Hurricane Lilies this year because I've missed the past two years of them blooming! Last year I had like 3 flowers actually bloom due to too little water and the year before, i was in Japan. So this year I swear I'll get awesome shots of my girls with some of those!

 

 

I think I may have to pick up one or to of these shots as wallpapers when I get home.

The most frustrating thing about flowers is that they have such a short time that they're in bloom, and an even shorter time when they actually look nice before bugs or birds or other things start picking at it. Very nice pictures. It's good you managed to get some in time!

Oh I know! This is especially true with these flowers.... they aren't called Day Lilies for nothing. The bloom literally lasts ofr a full day and that's it! The next day this bloom was withering and fell off on the third day. That same plant DID have more blooms coming out but none of them last more than a day. So time was a big thing for getting shots of them.

Though I'm not sure how flattering it truly is, since my wallpaper collection is *massive.* ^^; I love that Windows 7 and Mac OS X will automatically rotate wallpapers for you, because otherwise I don't think I'd ever be able to just pick one.

Absolutely gorgeous contrasts! Like Poofie said, there's not all that much color out here, so you have to find a "garden" or some such, which can possibly be a bit far to get to. Or, having an incredibly expensive water bill.. We'll just live vicariously thru Sabers enjoyment of colorful settings for now......

Well, I really want a few of my red eyed girls with them for sure like Rei, Sango, Sprout and Manami. But I'm wondering about outfits too. I'm pretty sure I want whichever girls I choose to be in a kimono or yukata. I just think it will look really nice and "traditional".

Yes sir, I *always* bring my girls outside for pics. If they don't go out and about, how can they have a full and happy life? She didn't get dirty at all out there so don't worry. Thank you about the photos! That means a lot coming from you.

Thank you very much! I find it really wild about these flowers timing for blooming. I guess i can use them as a meter next year... if another new one pops up, I'll know to expect a new girl soon.

 

I used a kit lens on my Nikon D60 for these shots. The camera came with it and it's the Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 lens. It's a great basic lens that has worked wonders for me outdoors. Had it not been so hot out there and lat ein the day, I'd have used my other Sigma lens with macro. But that one doesn't have a Vibration reduction thing on it so it's harder to get non-blurred pics at a big zoom.
