Bellatrix Posted November 7, 2012 I quite like her, but not this much. I think I'll enter 1 time for her and Melty in the Dollpa, and if I lose them for this round I'm safe! In Japanese, according to the Hepburn transliteration system, the vocal are pronounced like italian: A is Ah (sAkura) E is Eh (mElissa) I is Ih (nadIa) O is Oh (Orihime) U is both non pronounced and pronunced (Sasuke is read Sas'ke / Yuuko is YUko) while the consonants, especially the H, are pronounced in the english way. So Aoko is more Ah-Oh-K-Oh ^^ ✩ 𝓥𝓲𝓬𝓽𝓲𝓶 𝓸𝓯 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓑𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔁 ✩
SakuraSylph Posted November 7, 2012 It is 蒼崎青子, kana あおざきあおこ. Each of those is one syllable, so you get ah-oh-za-ki ah-oh-ko. Interestingly, 蒼 is an outdated version of 青, with both meaning either blue or green (depending on context). I guess since her name had "ao" in it twice, they wanted to have different characters. Perhaps Type-Moon takes advantage of the double meaning to write "green (e.g. w/ trees) peninsula, blue child" as her name characters? I know nothing about her at this point though, so that's a guess. Anyway, with a name like Aoko, is it any wonder she has some of the brightest blue eyes we've yet seen? Kumi Posted November 8, 2012 http://www.cancan-jseries.net/ has such a variety that it's hard to find something there (They have, for example, quite nice Yoko style wig. In red too)
SisterKyoya Posted November 8, 2012 There are some on formydoll.com including some dark red ones. We got Yuriko's current one from migidoll.com although they call the color "Chocolate" (it's anybody's guess as to why ). I'm not really sure what color or style your looking for but since Yuriko has red hair I've been trying to keep tabs on where we can find more. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram

tubatime1010 Posted November 12, 2012 To join in on the name pronounciation debate: I'd say her name, said in an actual speaking situation would more closely resemble "ao-ko" simply because people aren't going to take the time to specifically say each syllable in "Ah-Oh-Ko" due to the fact that it doesn't flow. They're really technically the same but yet completely different in true practice. There's no stoppage of airflow when speaking as "Ah-Oh-Ko" tends to imply. It's a fluid motion of the mouth: Starting open to make the "A", Closing slightly to make the "O. "(Singers and musicians should be familiar with the concept of "opening your throat" to get a better sound. This is a good way to think of the "O" sounds in Japanese. The "O" sound is produced in the throat. Not in the mouth as it is in English.) Now the back of your tongue should then be very close to the positioning for the "K" sound. Touch it to the roof of your mouth for the "K" then return to "open" position you were at before to produce the final "O." Some dialects of English tend to exaggerate the cut offs on their "O" sounds. Take care to prevent this from happening and to utilize a clean, pure "o" sound. Think of a legitimate "hahaha" laugh. The "a" is cut short by the stoppage of air. Not the closure of the mouth. This is the way that a Japanese "o" should be cut off. You can speak most of the language without really closing your mouth much. Except for M- and B- syllables. So...No stoppage while saying the name. Keep your O open. Yes this was a bit long for what it was meant to do...but proper pronounciation is something I've spent many months focusing on. My Japanese grammar's not quite up to snuff but my pronounciation is top notch.
DJStarstryker Posted November 12, 2012 Yes this was a bit long for what it was meant to do...but proper pronounciation is something I've spent many months focusing on. My Japanese grammar's not quite up to snuff but my pronounciation is top notch. Japanese is like any other language though. Even the natives pronounce it slightly different, depending on where they come from and also lazyness. For instance, -san attached to a name is pretty much always pronounced with a definitive N sound at the end. But I've actually heard a few people here in Japan pronounce it as -sa. Yes, they drop the N sound completely at the end. Of course, the main guy I know of who does this told me he's from Okinawa, so... I wouldn't be surprised if there's someone who says Aoko as "ah-oh-ko". My Japanese sucks and I pronounce it out loud as "ao-ko", with the first two syllables sort of slurred together. Most Japanese people seem to say it that way though. Are you ready to rock? ^_^
SisterKyoya Posted November 12, 2012 I'd have to agree that the AO is probably mushed together. The reason being is that my Japanese teacher (who is actually from Japan) has corrected our pronunciation on some things that as Americans we were trying to make more difficult. She said that in general when Japanese speak they don't like to make things hard to pronounce. Your mouth shouldn't be getting a workout when you are having a conversation. An example is one of the exceptions in telling time: the number four is yon and o'clock is ji, but four o'clock is yo-ji. Yo-ji is much easier to say than yon-ji. Mikiko Sensei said that Japanese speech patterns pretty much take the path of least resistance. So for the name pronunciation I'd think the AO would be a seamless sound, like if you said only the ou part of couch. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
