@ Tomo... i actually was pretty happy with the default eyes and i don't think they're ugly, i just found that putting in different ones gives a little more "personality", so for the same reason as you.

 

although i found out about VMF dolls from looking at Japanese image boards, it was the pics on http://tgm8332.blog130.fc2.com/ [NSFW] that made me want to buy a VMF (although i also really was persuaded to get one by koba-2011's photos, since his are not so erotic and in your face, which caters to my personal taste a bit more... but i think he uses default eyes... i guess it was 50/50 split telling me to buy VMF!)

 

"Yachi" (the blogger) uses custom eyes in his dolls sometimes and they always look shiny. also i think he may personally know Tommy or have some kind of promotion affiliation, but i'm not sure about that.

 

his Shiho looks really good with these blue eyes- i don't know what color to change my Shiho doll's eyes to yet, though...

 

 

btw, i think you are right, since the sockets for the eyes are all uniform size on the inside of the head. they just switched to using the 12mm eyes lately which is probably why all dolls come with putty now, since the 12mm can be knocked out of place.

 

also, thanks for letting me know that was a genuine defect with Romina. i didn't (still don't always) follow Tommy's blog very closely all the time (hence the lazy relating about Angel Resort) so i never knew at the time.

 

you could reverse the syllables in Shiho's name - then she becomes HOSHI - which means "Star". AC/RAP seem to really like using similar names for their dolls so i often get confused (Miria, Marina and Sayaka, Sayuri, Mako, Miki, etc) so what if they released a "Chiho" in future...? hmm....

 

by the way, where did you find such a head for sale?

 

if you ever want to buy eyes with "Butterfly" patterns in them (i don't know if that is what you meant by mentioning them...) then Souldoll.com sells them. i have some pairs for my Dollfie Dreams, they are very pretty, would probably work nicely in VMF!

 

OT: i love Tony Taka as well, but i think i'm the last or second-to-last generation of anime fans that would consider TT and Shirow to be names unanimous with anime/manga. i mean GITS is still very famous but i think a lot of teenagers could not tell you who actually created it if you asked them on the spot. Tony Taka is even more niche, although he has had quite a lot of his illustrations turned into figures.

her body parts are C3 bust (like Romina, which i really prefer a lot to G so i might be tempted to replace Shiho's if it were for sale)... and also the torso (believe the type name is C2 - Chiara is the only officially released doll that has this torso yet, but i am sure more will come soon).

i like how it's "twisty" and appears somehow to have belly fat despite VMF waists being so thin.

 

edit: also, it's my mistake, but "Tsugurura" is actually slightly different to the doll on the event poster. she appears to be tan skin Mona (like the poster) but has the C4 boobs instead of C3, but maintain the C2 torso/hips/legs.

--Actually, there is something interesting about her head. Tommy lists her head as "Type J (入れ目式 type)". the Type J head has only once been used before, for VMF50 ERI.

i don't know if "入れ目式" has a meaning or is the name of a sculptor, but if you look past the make-up and different eyes, you will see the resemblance to Eri.

she may not be exactly the same as Eri (can not confirm), but now that i look at comparisons between the two, it seems clear this is another "Eri variation" head.

 

also remember, the "Head Type" system is a bit confusing because for example, Shiho & Miho are listed as "H" Type head despite distinct differences in the shape of the eye sculpt and face-up between other "H" Types like Kana, Mako and Miko.

So, it's a good idea to maybe think of the Head Type system as a prototype system and never always an exact match even if there are many similarities or even if you think they are identical, we don't know enough to be 100% sure.

even if you can't get in on the pre-order, it's very unlikely that they won't make a variation doll of her, especially since there's no tan skin girl with the J head - if they are bringing it back in some form, that would be even more exotic.

 

also, as i said above, Misa's J head may or may not be identical to Eri in sculpt, but obviously she has completely different make-up and body blushing.

 

Tommy also said the Angel Resort event was very popular, and the one-off dolls were lotter'ied off now. currently, you can see a mini exhibit of Angel Philia dolls on exhibition in the windows of Mandarake Complex store(s?).

oh yes, and TomoTomo, i would love to see any pictures of your girls with different eyes sometime, especially Shiho and Hoshi together! i agree that tan skin goes well with blond or light color hair (the same reason that pale skin looks nice with black hair - contrast - which is why my only W skin VMF, Sayo, usually wears a dark color wig)

@ Galhound, that pic is from their booth at WonFes Summer'13, not Angel Resort (although they may have re used some of the clothes or props).

 

from eyeballing it, yes it's a Kana head (H-type) with tongue, just like Romina/Karura/Marina etc but with different face-up and different tongue/mouth piece.

unless you look through the blog entries on AP or RAP *or* at pictures from their Wonfes Booth / Angel Resort event @ Azone Akiba, you won't see her too much (she was featured at some of their doll shows a few months ago, though). i can do picspam if you like, but if you follow the links in this thread you should be good.

 

like i mentioned, it appears to be a renovated version of VMF50 Eri's head, so i'm really glad they are bringing this head sculpt back with a fresh new look since i had assumed they would never use it again.

 

this particular doll is probably going to be in fairly limited supply, but that's my personal speculation. plus the fact that most of the doll parts are interchangeable - you can practically 'build your own' - means that if any dolls with the same face sculpt get released in future, for extra money you can customize them to your liking in terms of body parts etc.

 

i also haven't checked YJA yet to see if there are any auctions for her from people that purchased at Wonfes, but if there are, they will probably be very marked up.

 

honestly, i'm a convert from DDs. i'm not saying i'll never buy a DD/MDD again or anything like that - you know, there's some SQLabs heads i'd like to own also - but in general i just prefer the height, feel, proportions, looks, and posability of VMFs aside from the fact that their faces (with exceptions of early VMFs/ Super Sonico etc) are less "anime" but not quite "BJD" (although i think that this one, and also Sayo, come quite close to looking like BJD)

 

plus, i like the variation in skintone and body types available. DD are very homogenous when compared to VMFs.

hah, i actually saw that auction before, it's been up for months. it's not - aside from being scaled 1/3 and the model is a Dollfie Dream, if you read the description, it's apparently um... controlled by remote control?! no indication if that feature is actually functional but just looked to me like one of those ~wacky Japanese~ things someone saw and thought "hmm... doll prop?"

JSYK, Miu was probably never sold with her accessories such as her sword etc. no Original Concept Girl VMFs are/were sold with clothes, accessories, shoes or wigs unless it's a special event or special release. if you wanted the accessories you have to find those on the second hand market separately or buy something similar (pretty sure there are a lot of swords that fit VMF scale dolls)

Tomo, you can't hotlink their site so nobody can see what it is. i recommend using IMGUR for random pic hosting - you don't even need to register an account to host images there, so it takes like 2 seconds to save the image and re-upload it (though i recommend having one if you want to delete the pic later).

I should be clear, I don't know where I can find a sonico, the one on mandarake disappeared the day I noticed she was there but the miu has been there for a long while...was the type b not as popular? In any event am saving for her. Do you know where I can find a type A body listing? I get a little ver whelmed and lost lol

i dunno about popularity - for a while i couldn't find a Miu auction anywhere, but lately i have seen quite a few sales of different versions of her.

 

i should note i think there were at least 3 release production runs of Miu. there may be more Miu dolls than other VMFs around, because it's really rare for them to do a reproduction run as far as i know. usually once a doll is sold out, it's "permanent".

 

if Miu is actually less popular it might be due to her similarity to default Obitsu. i think her head is an unmodified Obitsu head aside from being sold with a Yamato face-up. the difference is in her body which has the B bust and the more muscular arms and curvature etc, or there was the tan edition of Miu also which makes her different from Obitsu.

 

with Mandarake, they are selling storefront goods mostly second hand, so there is going to be 1 Miu doll in 1 store somewhere. i have seen a lot of people's grail dolls just sit on Mandarake sometimes for weeks. the price is prohibitive since if you buy online or in person, there is no layaway option, and Mandarake prices are usually (not always) slightly higher than YJA prices.

 

a tip for searching Mandarake for anything is to try different keywords because sometimes the staff putting items online do not label them properly - or in English. with 'vmf50' that is how they were marketed in Japan (so i'm pretty sure Japanese would never type "ビエムエフ50", or however you would properly transliterate that into Kana) but i sometimes just see unmarked goods on there or stuff with a very short title description, or even spelling mistakes in either the Japanese or English title.

 

this also applies to searching places like YJA or Rakuten etc.. but if you don't have a proxy, try searching in Japanese on Mandarake for Sonico...

just so you know - there are now 3 editions of Sonico, because there is an Angel Philia made Sonico floating around that i think was released in April this year (not sure in what quantity, but she is long sold out on their site).

the AP Sonico has different measurements to the 2 releases of VMF Sonico - VMF is all type A body parts (A-A-A-A...etc), but AP is C2 bust, G torso/hips and A type legs with the High Heel feet.

 

AP Sonico's retail price was 68K yen, JSYK, and she looks like this (official pics kind of hide her body because she's wearing a babydoll top):

you probably won't find a pure type A body without a head unless you get lucky, but you can probably resell Sonico's head on its own if you buy her and split her, since she's popular and somebody will probably want her. the fact that the Mandarake Sonico sale is unopened might raise the price of it, so you might want to wait for a "used/opened" Sonico sale unless it's really important to you that the body is "like new" (which has its advantages because you can be sure of no stains or external/internal damage, but also costs more)

 

there are 2 auctions on YJA for the Angel Philia Sonico doll right now, both are bid-only starting at retail price and appear to be NIB...

there technically should be no difference in skintone between A and B as long as you buy it in W skin (White) and not K (K is tan). however the company itself warned there may be the possibility of variance in skintone. this could be because the tone of the plastic is susceptible to change the same way resin for BJD is, or because they blush the body parts.
