first of all, i've had my proxy for about 8 months, although prior to that i had a Japanese guy i met on Ebay forward me stuff. he was cool and all but i wanted a professional service that could let me do shop orders and bid on a million different websites, etc.

 

there are many proxies out there, i do not know which is "the best" or "the cheapest" but my proxy is "Shopping Mall Japan" (SMJP) and they are run by an American/English person in Japan and their employees. i am guessing this based on the times i had to contact customer service: they always spoke fluent, polite English and signed emails as "Alan" or something. then again, who knows- maybe they are REALLY fluent Japanese people, i made an almost racist assumption there.

 

if you can't read ANY Japanese at all, then use Google translate. it's very easy to learn what certain things mean, too. also, some search terms are English (for example, Japanese call vmf50s "VMF50" and not "ベムエーフ50" or something like that). sometimes they mark their auctions with the word "DD" (as in Dollfie Dream) instead of "ドルフィードリーム" in full and etc. however, Google can usually help you enough, as can the site staff although i never had to ask them questions about Japanese since i can read and write it at a level low enough to be able to navigate and search.

 

i'm really happy with the service, my friend uses a proxy called Yokatta! which he says is good, but i have no urge to change. also, just so you know, August they are waiving fees on shop orders - that means if you order a doll from a Yamato shop before the end of August, it'll be way cheaper. *waves the wand of enabling*

 

alright, i should list the pros and cons of SMJP/proxies. these are:

 

1) they are slow to invoice but fast to ship. they invoice me for my auctions maybe 7-10 days after i bid and they prepay the bidder. they usual charge $6 to $10 per auction won, i don't remember shop fees right now, have to check. no charge for losing.

2) you need a down payment on your account and this determines your bidding budget. they explain it in full on their site.

3) they will sniper bid for you or manually bid.

4) fees for auctions and shipping pile up quickly

 

there you go, that's all i can think of. sorry to go off-topic but since you asked - i think it's very useful, i actually do like 50% of my shopping via SMJP now because even WITH their fees you can get a lot of stuff cheaper than on english sites. you can also get stuff that is impossible to find on any English site (example: i was looking for a cheap prize figure from 2003'ish that i really wanted for about 10 months, i searched everywhere including MFC etc. when i got my proxy it finally occurred to me to search for the prize figure on Yahoo Japan Auctions. there were 2 up for 300 yen each and i was the only bidder.)

 

i also have bought maybe 1/2 the DDs i own (i have 6) on Yahoo Japan, if that helps. and if you DO end up getting a proxy, there are tips and tricks for finding a good deal with auctions etc... just ask me.

I really like the look of Shihos bust: it's very large, but is based on a much more natural shape than the DDdy bobble bust. Is there a lighter coloured/ slightly smaller bust version of Shiho's body?

 

i don't know about an exactly smaller version, but is Shiho the doll you want or is there one doll in particular you like and want a different body for or something like that? it can probably can be done. i have been considering trying to buy her a smaller bust. when i ordered her i did not know that all VMF50 dolls have different bust and hip measurements - we covered this earlier in the thread but she is the largest at 25CM around the chest! it is actually impeding to dress her (she wears a mix of DD and MDD clothes) and cannot wear many things because her chest is too big.

 

i ordered her because i love tan dolls and i love her face, but i wish her bust was smaller. so i'm looking into it too.

 

also remember that aside from the two different Yamato JP stores (the Yahoo JP one and the official one) you can look for VMF50 parts on YJA, Mandarake, etc. sometimes they restock parts. maybe even English sites like HLJ carry parts as i purchased 2 VMF50 wigs from HLJ once, i thnk.

 

if you find an out of stock part on their site and can't get it anywhere, another service my proxy offers that i never tried out is they offer "Akiba Searching/Shopping" - i.e you show them what you want and they try to go out and find it on foot. i assure you they probably have purchased weirder things than doll boobies before.

 

oh yeah, and that Japanese guy i knew through Ebay might do it too, he's pretty nice but i didn't speak to him since i got my proxy (i feel a bit bad...). i could forward you his info. i know he wouldn't be embarrassed to do it because he sells hentai doujin on his ebay store ffs, but then again i can't remember if he lives in/near Tokyo now.

 

anyway, which VMF50(s) do you have in mind? if you tell me that, i might be able to help with bust size, but not certainly as i don't know which paler doll is closest to Shiho in bustiness and such.

These VMF's sure are stacked... I'm loving the more adult nature of them. Can you swap out heads on them? How about hands?

as kymaera said, VMf50 have similar bodies to DDs. they are actually based on the Obitsu body. they have an internal skeleton that does not rely on on any kind of stringing or hooking. i've never headswapped mine or had reason to take hers off but i'm confident you can if you want to.

 

just so you know, buying Sayo from the official Yamato store cost me $530 and around $60 additional in shipping and proxy fees. that's about the cheap end/retail price of a character DD. only the older/rarer VMFs seem to go any higher than that, Shiho cost a similar price 2nd hand on YJA.

 

i *love* all their sweet accessories and some of their clothes (they have casual stuff that is more to my taste than the adult outfits, cough), but everything they make could be produced for like, under $20 and they charge so much for it (i'm not including the dolls in this statement ofc).

 

it's too bad and still awful because one of my other dolls is going to be a witch for hallowe'en and the wand is the perfect design AND scale. i'm considering trying to sculpt some different wands and make them look professional, or if i really get desperate i might buy it but i would feel ripped off even it was gratifying.

Excellent. They have a great range of motion and the bodies are nice and tight. Once you put them in place, they are rocks. I did a shoot where I placed Rinrin hanging from a tree limb by her knees and I didn't worry that she was going to fall at all.

Ayane (my Shiho doll) poses really well, and i expect the same of my Sayo doll when she arrives. remember that they have the Obitsu body/skeleton even if it is modified to be curvier or skinner, so if you've ever had a 50cm Obitsu they will pose similarly.

 

i also made this thread to help make people aware of these dolls, i totally love them and accidentally discovered them one day while browsing an archived 2ch thread! it's weird that they are made by Yamato and even sold in Yamato's US site but not even advertised. i wish more people to discover them, so they become more successful, even if i do have my quarrels with some of their choices (the accessory and clothing pricing namely).

i should be getting my Sayo by the end of the month or start of September if all goes well. she is ready to be shipped to my house but i'm making my proxy wait as i purchased for my friend a Saber DD which i am waiting to pay for and ship together with Sayo. then again it may depend how fast Saber gets to their office...

i got the outfit on YJA, it's designed for DD with the Dynamite Bust and fits her near perfectly. her wig is a 7~8 from Dollmore iirc. i'm really curious to see what kind of clothes my unnamed Sayo will end up wearing since all Ayane/Shiho's clothes will probably fall off her.

That's a pretty neat looking dress but it seems to be WAY too roomy up top. How do other DD clothes fit the VMF girls?

oh, the roominess is due to the odd choice of fabric (thick cotton cord) rather than the actual cut and fit of the dress.

 

for comparison, here she is wearing a dress made from thin cotton, i already posted one pic of this before but to give you an idea of how the "roomy" illusion was created you can compare them...i mean she has gigantic boobs so no matter what dress she wears, unless it's a sweater dress this happens to any degree.

also, remember that all VMF50s are not created equal, so depending on the doll different clothes fit them. example as mentioned, Sayo is something like 20cm-ish bust to Shiho's 25cm, hip ratios differ as well.

They look great! It is a pitty that most outfits are too sexy for me.

Ahh I can see what you mean now. She certainly does fill out a few of those tops! So she is basically the same size up top as a DDdy but on a 50cm frame? She must have some bad back problems. At least she looks great!

edit: almost forgot to say, re her posability, in both these photos she was standing up unassisted (no stand, no leaning) on a slightly uneven ground (a towel!) although her boots may have assisted with balancing her, these dolls balance really well

 

@ Saluli - here she is wearing something more chaste. (heh, i almost typed "chesty")

 

@ Baldy - it's complicated. she is the same width around up top as a Dynamite bust Dollfie, but at 50cm has smaller arms, waist, hands, feet, etc. her hips are too wide to wear MSD sized anything unless it has an "open" skirt and the bust is still DD-sized if it's a one-piece. when i buy dresses and lingerie for her, they are almost always for Dynamite DDs, but in this particular photo she is wearing an MSD (40cm) ooak top i purchased on Etsy. it fits her pretty well, but is designed to be baggy. i own SD/DD sized tops by the same seller and they are much too big for her. so, mileage really varies when purchasing the offbrand clothing for her.

 

the leggings she is wearing are for DDs from coolcat-coolcat and she is wearing shoes from releaserain in their MSD/Unoa size.

 

please note: her facial expression has been altered with photoshop in this photo, i do it for artistic purposes with some (but not all) of my doll photos. her default expression is a sad/submissive/moe type one which you see in a lot of other pics.

Top : MSD size Nine9Style Jacket

Bottom : Dollmore Zadoll size Kahma pants

Model : vmf48 (Obitsu48 frame with vmf48 type C thigh/ vmf50 Type E bust+hip)

 

the length of Zadoll size pants is perfectly for vmf48 size but a bit (acceptable) loose at waist.

I've been wanting to order a Miho from hlj.com.

 

She's awfully pretty, I just have to get myself to drop that kind of cash.

HLJ are probably one of the better dealers for VMF50 outside getting them via proxy. i would recommend them... and of course Miho is wonderful!

 

Remina, thanks for the info about clothing sizes. coincidentally i just ordered some Dollmore clothing for another doll of mine but it's possible it will fit my Sayo doll then! i am also a fan of 9ninestyle (i have resin BJD as well as VMF50/DD, so i know about them...)

 

i will make another clothing post soon - as i implied, Sayo finally arrived and i want to show her off and compare her to Ayane! i haven't settled on a name yet but i'm leaning towards the name 'Mana'.

time for regular doublepost with a clothing/sizing/body/face comparison preview. i copy+pasted the text from my flickr. remember that Sayo is the slimmest VMF50 in both bust AND hips, while Shiho is the curviest in measurement. hopefully this will help people get an idea of how clothing sizes vary from doll to doll.

i'm not really sure how i'm going to end up styling Mana - i kind of want to replace her eyes and the wig may not be the one i use most. really i just got her out the box the other day, grabbed the nearest clothes that fit her and set her down while i think about how i'm going to develop her "style".

I would love to get VMF50 bodys for my two girls a type G or D for Izzy and a type f for Error. just need to work out how to get them and get the money XD and then two spare Obitsu 50cm bodys.

I was just curious if anyone has tried the VMF50 heads on other bodies? I have several VMF50 heads and I have tried them on my Obitsu 50cm and 47cm bodies. The difference is the custom body parts for the VMF50 ar a bit slimmer than the stock Obitsu parts, so the head winds up looking a bit small and the neck rather thick. I'm thinking I may need to try and buy the VMF50 chest piece in order for there to be a more proportional look. I thought I would ask anyway though. :3
