I still can't believe that they can't come out with a better solution for so many things. Despite the high prices etc...

 

I'm almost tempted to embed metal pieces in the plastic and fix them with magnets... but I'm against modding, so patafix will be.

Magnets doesn't seem to be very practical with this application. The magnets on the R. Device parts would have to be very small and very flat to keep a tight fit and the interior magnet would have to be left unattached to the vinyl so the R. Device fit/location could be adjusted. I also thought about magnetic or metallic paint on the interior of the R. Device to keep the gap to a minimum, but then you risk staining.

I've also considered trying 3M VHB Adhesive Transfer Tape.

We use it at work occasionally to attach small window mullions to plexiglass for stage use where other fasteners wouldn't be practical. This might be a little too "permanent" solution.

About embedding little metal pieces into the various plastic parts... one must be very cautious because many plastic pieces are very thin and the risk to ruin the part is high.

 

Also, hips and genitals area is very difficult to reach to adjustments and in particular the pubis has the hips joints that don't leave so much space to place a button magnet... mmmmh

 

Maybe patafix remain the safest route to take... but patafix with the head parts doesn't make a mess with the wig?

I have some similar material. It's too thick, unless you don't mind a 1mm+ gap.

 

You wouldn't have to use magnets on the R. Device parts, just something ferrous material that would be attracted to the the magnets, like a metal foil of some kind (not aluminum, of course).

With FaithZ and under the "Layaway & Shipping" will say how to start the layaway. I do recommend saying in the comments that you want the total value of the doll declared when she ships. In the section I mentioned they said they do that automatically unless told otherwise. But when I did layaway for Emma and got her I saw on the paperwork that they only declared $100. Which really upset me since I had gotten options parts with my doll so the value was like $800. So had something happened I would have only been able to get $100 back through insurance. Luckily nothing happened to her. I commented this for my Elle layaway that way it is dobleepented that I told them. I did tell them, but all they said was they would talk to who did the packing that day~

 

And yeah I prefer the DD wrist. If I heat up the hands really well I can put them on differently, but kind of a pain~

I've experimented a little for this R.Device adaptation to magnetic alternative over patafix.

 

My guinea pig was a pen cap 1 mm thick.

 

I used a flat washer as the metal source (tested on a magnet to see if it is'nt aluminum) to embed in the pen cap, 0.5 mm thick (photos were taken after the "operation", so if you watch closely you can see the metal piece embedded in the pen cap):

 

 

I've cut a little piece from the washer with a bolt cutter, approx 1 mm x 2 mm:

 

 

 

That's all I need, let's proceed! With the help of a soft surface for more stability and grip, I positioned the little metal piece exactly where I wanted to embed it and I've used, cautiously and carefully, the top of a soldering iron to raise the temperature of the metal plate enough to melt the plastic.

 

 

 

Little by little, with attention I've put enough force to sink the piece into the pen cap entirely and let it cool. I've removed the excess of melted plastic with my fingernails/a cutter and... that's it.

Here is the result:

 

 

From the side, you almost can't see anything.

 

Now testing with a round magnet:

 

So... well, technically it is possible to redo the process with the R.device pieces, but there is something I still don't know, for example if the plastic they're made of melt in the same way or if the metal plate can be responsable for stain to surface on the doll or if the magnets will work in the right way...

 

Also you must dismantle the entire doll body to place magnets in place difficult to reach... if they even fit. mmmh

In the end I don't know if it's worth it. Maybe using patafix is the easier way to put on the R.Device.

@chanela Elle just started being delivered in Japan, so FaithZ will need to wait for their shipment to arrive. Once your doll is shipped you should get an email notifying you along with a tracking number if you got EMS shipping.
