slmka Posted July 11, 2012 Currently I am trying to smoothen my daughter's hair with dolls hair oil. But some pesky hairs seems impossible to get it straight (some are like spoil paperclips....). Do you usually trim them away? Or is there any methods to do it? Cauldroness Posted July 11, 2012 I usually pull them out of the wig entirely. Most fibers, if you give a firm tug, will come loose. Doll Photos & Doll Jewelry Sales: Follow me on Instagram!

Nekopon Posted August 22, 2012 Oh yeah, I bought some of that wig essence stuff but I'm not entirely sure what it does... haven't used it yet! Is it the same as wig oil?
archangeli Posted August 22, 2012 Oh yeah, I bought some of that wig essence stuff but I'm not entirely sure what it does... haven't used it yet! Is it the same as wig oil? Going by the description it is the same. And I accidentally discovered that the Volks Wig Oil is the exact same as my wig conditioner spray from Priscilla (<-- popular Japanese wig brand). I bought a big bottle of it when I was in Tokyo earlier this year - so now I use the big bottle when I'm at home and take the little one with me for the doll wigs and my own wigs. The wig conditioner (wig oil/ wig essence, etc) is nice to restore shine to dull, "dry" wigs but it's not a styling product. If you don't want to cut the fibres that are "bent" you can try to force them straight with a bit of water wax, or a tiny bit of wig styling spray (like Volks Wig Mist) on your finger. Nekopon Posted August 22, 2012 Thanks for the explanation. I've been using water wax for styling but I haven't had a chance to use the essence yet!
SchroedingersCat Posted January 22, 2013 Sorry for the forum necromancy, but this seemed an appropriate place to pose my question. For brushing a long wig to untangle it, is it okay to use a standard hair brush, or will these cause problems with the fibres pulling out? And secondly, can anyone recommend a good place to get DD sized hair clips? Now with +/- 15% more uncertainty!
baldylox Posted January 22, 2013 For brushing a long wig to untangle it, is it okay to use a standard hair brush, or will these cause problems with the fibres pulling out? And secondly, can anyone recommend a good place to get DD sized hair clips? I've found that for the few longer wigs I have, using one of those metal pet combs works wonders. I don't have any normal hairbrushes around to test so I have no idea how those would work on a tangled wig. But I've tried the toothbrush method and it didn't do well. But using one of those pet combs did a really good job of getting out the frizz and stuff. Don't use one of the flea combs as the teeth are too close together, make sure to get the regular metal one. Start from the bottom of the wig and work your way up in small sections. I've done this a few times and it's worked well every time. These combs usually cost $3-$5 at most and you can get them at any pet store or even Walmart. As for DD sized hairclips, my local Dollar Tree had a TON of them. There are like 16 or 18 of them per card so just 2 bucks would get you a load of them in different colors. I haven't seen them in other dollar store tho, just Dollar Tree. They *used* to have these at Walmart but I haven't seen them there in a long time. Hope that helps! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. PlasticFantastic Posted January 24, 2013 CoolCat sells a good wig brush for a good price and because you're in Australia it would probably be cheapest. As for hair clips, I own these and they're nicely in scale with the DD's: Colourful mini clips Tiny claw clips Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews! crimsoncat Posted January 31, 2013 I've had good luck with the wig brushes they sell at Sally's Beauty in the US. I used them for my cosplay wigs for years and had no problems. I own the Brush Strokes Steel Pin Cushion Wig Brush and it's my fav.
