Gir Posted July 14, 2012 Hi everyone, I figured that I might as well sign up here. I recently purchased a DD somewhat accidentally... I've been keeping an eye on DD's for a while now and when one showed up for what seemed like a steal I placed a bid fulling expecting to be squashed in my futile attempt. Further research showed that she is actually a DD1 and I've apparently overpayed ...oh well, live and learn. So anyways, now I own a Dollfie! even if shes a slightly less desireable model. Like all hobbies I see that my initial purchase will be the least expensive part! Now to find clothes, hair, and a faceup. I dont see much that specifically fits DD1, I assume because its out of production. I would really appreciate any tips or hints on finding things that are sure to fit. I can do alterations to snug things up but clothes from scratch are beyond my abilities for now. Do the current production Volks heads fit DD1? From lurking here for the last couple days it looks like yes, but I want to be sure before buying anything else. You have a great site, I cant wait to participate! baldylox Posted July 14, 2012 Hello and welcome aboard! Glad to see another Southerner join up. Congrats on your purchase! Even if she is a DDI body, at least she has a body! There have been so many delays and shipping issues with Volks lately that bodies are a rarity now. So at least all you need are clothes, wigs and a faceup. I had a DDI body on my Rei Ayanami for a few months and it wasn't *horrible*, just annoying compared to the DDdy bodies her two sisters had. If you get her a stand, you can have her stand on that and then she can do sitting poses just fine on her own. Kneeling poses aren't so easy to make look good tho. But overall the DDI body is an okay place to start. Whenever you get her painted and with a wig and clothes, then you can start looking for another body to replace the DDI with. As for clothing, no worries! The DDI and DDII/DD3 bodies are all pretty much the same overall size. Depending on which model you got, she may have either a medium or large bust. Do you have any links to pics you can share here? You won't be able to post pics directly in your posts until you hit the 20 post mark. But you can link to pics on Flickr or Photobucket if you have an account there. If we can see pics, we can tell you what head she has and what size bust she has too. Anyways, your DDI will work with just about any sized clothing for a DDII M-bust or larger. You can check places like Alices Collections, Mint on Card, Volks, Nightfall, Cool Cats and a few others to look for clothing. Check here on the forums under the sections with Sellers and Feedback to see lists of places that sell DD clothing. Those places will sell wigs too, altho not all of them do. You'll have to check spots like Cancan, Leeke World and Volks specifically for wigs. We have several very good faceup artists here on the boards. Go into the sections for Faceups and such to see peoples works. You can generally get a faceup done for between $35 and $60 depending on who does them. Or, if you're artistic and brave, you can do your own! Volks has all the materials you'll need to do one. You can also check the DD Flickr groups as they have lots of faceup artists there too. All current heads will fit the DDI body but they mount up a little differently than a regular DDII or DD3. The DDI is strung like a resin doll and will have an "S" hook inside the head, looped thru the main cord inside the body. You can still use this method to attach a new head or you can use a new adapter part from Volks that makes the "S" hook attach at the bottom and give you the plastic piece similar to the newer bodies up top. I just used the "S" hook for a head on mine and it was easy enuff. You just need to make sure that cord doesn't slide into the body or you're screwed. I put a long zip tie thru the cord before pulling the "S" hook out and it was easy to keep a hold of. I hope that wasn't too much all at once. Please feel free to ask questions here, there's plenty of nice people around willing to help out! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. Masuuka Posted July 15, 2012 Well hiya! Can I guess that from your username you like gir? Because I think he(?)'s the most amazing cartoon character ever! Anyway, I'm so happy another newbie has come along and that you have a starting point! (for now I only have dreams...)
Gir Posted July 16, 2012 WOW! Thank you for the deluge of information! It took me a few minutes to process all of that! lol. I certainly appreciate you taking the time to write all that out for me. Hopefully this link you will find all of the pictures from the auction that I won. I will certainly add more when she arrives. Unfortunately tracking says it will be while I am on vacation, lets hope not! The auction description mentions 2003 IFDC convention and that she has been stored for a very long time, and not a whole lot else. Luckily there were a bunch of pictures! http://s1148.photobucket.com/albums/o563/GirDollfie/ I really didnt expect to win when I bid so I've been caught a little off guard. Quite honestly I will probably store her for a while until reality sinks in and slowly acbleepulate what I need to make her presentable. I will definitely be looking up all those companies you mentioned, and more auction searches for deals. I take it, as with most things, you get what you pay for in terms of quality, fit, and finish? This head has closed eyes but I really want the look of open. Can this head be modified or should I just buy a new one? Are heads available from Volks? You mentioned bodies are scarce but what about the rest of their stuff? I might try my own faceup if I get brave, I've been known to try crazier things. -ps- almost forgot, I noticed in all of the pictures that the upper body seems to sit high on the lower body. Is it not fitted together correctly or is there some other problem that is going to give me headaches? Masuuka - I LOVE Gir! He is my favorite cartoon character! He's just not like other characters, very unique. I am a total newbie with Dollfies, I've never even seen a DD in person! I must be seriously crazy to have just bought one ...currently questioning my sanity.
Dezarii Posted July 18, 2012 Welcome! I used to have a DDI. The head you have is probably the default one that used to come with that body. I wouldn't recommend trying to mod it, but you (or a faceup artist) can paint open eyes on it for a different look. It's been a while since I had it, so I don't recall how the waist joint is meant to be. Overall it was a very easy body to work with. I loved it so much that I was surprised when the DDII body came out and I liked it even more. The size is the same, so anything that fits DDII will fit DDI. They are more slender than the Volks resin SDs, so sometimes clothes fit a little large.
