Dolly Procrastination and how you deal with it

Recommended Posts

Lulu

First: I do apologize if this shouldn't be a thread, I did a forum wide search and then an off topic search and couldn't find anything close to what I'm about to ask. If you'd rather this thread not be here, I have no problems with it being removed and receiving a PM telling me so

So, procrastination, it's not a new thing and I bet all of us do it about almost everything but what I'm asking here is:

What do you procrastinate about within the dolly world? (any dolls not just dollfie dreams, all are welcome)

Procrastination means "to put something off" and to keep putting it off for a period of time. Things that you really could be doing, sometimes even WANT to do but you just feel so "meh" about it that you just think "I'll do it tomorrow" and you keep thinking that for weeks.

My aim for this thread is to share solutions, motivation tips and tricks and maybe even just somewhere to go "ARGHHH I want to make a skirt but I have been putting it off for weeks, woe is me"

For me, my biggest procrastination is that:

I already have Amai all put together, she has her DDII body, her head, eyes and wig but what she lacks are CLOTHES. I keep saying "I'll make all her clothes" and then I put it off day after day until I feel so bad that I just buy 2 outfits off ebay so she has SOMETHING.

Whats worse is that, I have another DDII with an 01 head on layaway and have 1 more payment left and I'm doing the SAME THING! I bet she won't have clothes when she gets here

I also should be making more clothes to bulk out my clothing line for dolls, now that I have more resins and a DD, I can sew for lots of sizes but I just keep going "meeehhhhhhh"

Also, I should REALLY finish that mod I started......ohhhh Christmas 2011

I'm finding it hard to figure out a system of "meh" and motivation to counter it. Usually all it takes is a little time with my dolls or to draw something to get me in the mood for sewing but I seem to be "lost" so to speak.

So, what's your procrastination demons? and what do you do to overcome them? Is there a super magic mantra?

(again, this is meant to be a light hearted topic and I in no way mean to upset anyone)

I don't think I have procrastination issues with dolls. Generally because of having to wait a few months minimum for new dolls from Volks (or more than that, for these newer Sabers...), that feels like plenty of time to put together stuff. In fact, I have a custom project doll and I'm seriously just waiting on Volks and KL to send me my Rise. Everything else has been waiting for the doll for a long time.

I do have procrastination issues for other things. I don't know why, but I noticed sometimes for video games I'll get close to the end and stop playing. Maybe I don't want the game to be over?

Are you ready to rock? ^_^

procrastinate at its worst when something needs fixing!

A vital piece of Mari's skeleton cracked in two... and I kept saying "later.... later..." The thing was held in place with hair elastics for nearly a year before finally got some epoxy and glued it together

My motivation was lame - Saber's armor broke and reaaaaallly hadda go buy epoxy and start fixing things... wouldn't want King of Knights to be mad and start slicing left and right <_<;

Well I have the amazing talent of rarely finishing anything that I've started so procrastination is a huge issue. Since I don't have a frame for my DDS, she's still in a box in my cabinet, which really doesn't help things.

I have found that having my blog going helps me keep track of all the things I wanted to do and helps me keep at it (also having a doll with a very pushy persona played out on there helps as well ) Whenever I see that I haven't updated in a while it keeps reminding me why I'm doing it to begin with.

In essence, just get everything in writing, even if you never read it again it still helps you remember it.

the biggest thing i have been procrastinating about is re-doing my custom MDD's face-up. literally for months at this point.

i was happy with the face-up design (expression) but my brushwork needs to be completely re-done, it's just not good enough at all. i'm a terrible perfectionist so maybe the same thing that makes me want to re-do her face is what's stopping me from doing it: what if i fail to meet my standards again?

i've been saying i'm going to do it for a few months now and i feel pretty guilty about it. i'm really fond of her i just want her to look less amateur, orz.

the lighting in this pic isnt the best, but if anyone is curious as to what she looks like, here she is on the right, compared to a Volks character MDD (Konomi Yuzuhara) on the left. click to enlarge:

This.

As for me, my procrastination comes with taking pictures. I do this with everything I get too as I'm really into figure photography as well. I always say "I'll go out and take so and so with me for a shoot," but when time comes for me to leave the house or even set up I won't do it. I need to create a excessive amount of motivation to get myself up and to do it.

I also just like to put off spending money. I do this randomly and it is actually pretty amusing. I'll willingly put money into something I don't need, but I like (and the price is good. I don't do it with really high priced items), but then you get me to the things I really, really want/totally need...I'll literally stare at it for hours until it is sold out... I miss out on a lot of things doing this. oTL

I procrastinate about finishing dolls, then put off buying dolls I want because I feel like I should finish the ones I have, so that they are all painted/wigged/beautifully dressed. But that never seems to happen. I put off buying a body for my WS DD head and now they aren't in stock. I get a little overwhelmed sometimes, thinking about all the faceups I need to do and the clothes I've planned to sew, and then decide to do something else entirely. I really mean to do things with my dolls, but then procrastinate, and then forget. Then I remember how much I love dolls and think I need another one, and the cycle continues.
