bethykins Posted July 17, 2012 Working for Apple I'm super interested to find out which side people's computer alliances lie on?? I am a PC turned Mac I have a gorgeous family of DD girls See my profile for a list of my beauties!!
Nekopon Posted July 17, 2012 Surprisingly, I'm a PC person because of my upbringing. Because I'm a professional graphics person in the industry, a lot of people ask me why I don't use a MAC since it's the tool of choice for graphic design but I think it's a personal preference to what you're used to. However, recently two of my relatives have gotten jobs at Apple so I get a friendly 20% relative discount so I'm very tempted to get a Macbook Air... Imagine all the places I could go with it! I'd draw on it 24/7.
milkytea Posted July 17, 2012 I was pretty loyal to Mac in the 90s, but since then my preferences have changed towards Windows and Linux.
Poofiemus Posted July 17, 2012 I grew up on Windows, from elementary all through high school. For the duration of college, I switched to Mac (Tiger). I'll admit, I really did enjoy working with that OS, and the all-in-one iMac format was pretty convenient for someone who preferred desktop power/screen res but needed to drag her computer home once in a while. I'm back to Windows now, though. Near the end of college I started using some Autodesk 3D programs, namely 3ds Max and Maya; the former doesn't run on a Mac at all, and the latter Autodesk gives as little acknowledgement as they possibly can. Between that, and wanting the flexibility to crack open the machine and replace hardware without it feeling like brain surgery, switching back to Windows seemed pretty logical. Still, even though I didn't stay on the Mac side, I don't have anything against the OS itself, and for most people Apple's attitude of, "You want to upgrade one part? Too bad, go buy a new machine," isn't the issue it is for me. And the silver lining to my brief Mac phase? It enabled me to skip Windows Vista and go straight from ME to 7! In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
Nekopon Posted July 17, 2012 I guess I'll add another reason to my answer is because I had a few jobs working with indie game developers and it's much easier to develop games for Android phones with Windows than to make games for the iTunes store because of strict regulations. Also, I was pretty much forced to work on a MAC for three years of my college life but never learned to fall in love with it.
XOHimitsuOX Posted July 17, 2012 I'm in the PC camp cos i grew up building my own PC's. Since Apple changed to intel processors there's not much difference in barebones hardware. It's just that Apple has better design and aesthetics, where as the PC isn't, but there are some copycats like asus Another question you might ask is which OS do you use? I use Windows 7 just because i still play games on the PC I also run Debian Linux in a virtual machine, as i still prefer to run applications by command line
Nekopon Posted July 17, 2012 I use Windows 7 but my laptop is 64-bit so it has a lot of installation issues but I try to manage around them by fiddling with the coding like iTunes. Can't wait for Windows 8 to come up, it's supposed to be a cross-platforming master.
Mahoro Posted July 17, 2012 PC, the first computer I had to call my own though was a MacII that my dad bought for 10 thousand dollars back in the day <_<; (He apparently was the first or 2nd person to get one in the city, the other person was the dad of someone who used to be my friend, and the dad looked EXACTLY like Bill Gates, so much so my mom almost broke out laughing when she met him). University forced us to learn Linux, but we were stuck on some crappy distro and the school always had issues (the prof cancelled an entire project one time because the system we had to use went down past the due date), so I don't have fond memories of that, just the VM I had taking up space on my computers lol. Now that said, despite people's (rather annoying) gripes about Vista, I personally never really had issues with it. If anything, I found tended to degrade on me faster than Vista or 7. On top of that I enjoy putting computers together, I used to do it for freinds back in the day, and its just as enjoyable to stick parts in a case today as it ever was. As for aesthetics, I'm quite happy with my PC, its pretty well as minimalist as a case as you can find (http://www.fractal-design.com/?view=product&category=2&prod=69). Jezrah Posted July 17, 2012 I'm a PC. In elementary school the only thing we ever did on the old Apple computers was play Number Munchers or other educational games like that. We had no idea how to run anything that wasn't a program on a floppy disk. By the time I got to the age where they would teach us more, the entire computer lab got updated and changed to Windows computers. That's all I know. But in the land of mobile devices, I hated the iPod because I don't like all the stupid rules in iTunes. So my first smartphone was an Android, and I really like Android platform. I wish it would get more love. I actually do most of my web surfing from my Motorola Xoom (Android platform) and I only start up my actual PC when I need a master device not a slave device
Anna-neko Posted July 17, 2012 very very PC Been using them, building them [very past tense], around them since '91 and it works. Just understand better how to make them do what I want them too! (unless its WinVista - that OS annoyed me far too much, even more than WinME) I approve of Apple's design department and some stuff they make, but their products and me just don't get along! Not the damn box in middle school, not the fancy box in college, not even an iPod (sorry Apple, Sansa player worked better in my hands)
Till Troll Posted July 17, 2012 The majority of machines in my house run Ubuntu Linux, but we also have a Mac each, and at least one working installation of Windows somewhere. I have a netbook with Ubuntu for browsing and updating my blog, and an IMac for gaming and media in my craft room. I am not a Mac convert: so many things frustrate me (huge screen! teeny tiny default system text that you can't change cos it affects 'the mac look'; no hash key; mackey+R instead of F5; whinge whinge whinge etc.), but it's overall performance, the ease of using the command line and the fact that games /just work!/ makes me happy. I once got WoW running on my Eee under linux and wine, but it was not a fun experience by any means (educational, maybe). I am interested in the newest version of Windows, and am keeping an eye on their 'Surface' tablets coming out later this year. I think they all have good points and their bad points, and I'll go with whichever OS best suits my needs. LIkely our computers will always be majority Linux installs, with a few devices running Windows or MacOS depending on their purpose.
milkytea Posted July 17, 2012 I love that every time someone references the Windows version after Me and prior to Vista the forum displays the emoticon.
aquilla429 Posted July 17, 2012 For my main computer it has always got to be pc! I like computer gaming so it just has to be a pc for me. For my mobile devices, I have an I pad and an Iphone as I prefer them over the android devices, however I'm very interested in the Microsoft Surface, I'd like to try one when they're available eventually ^^ My new domain and blog is now based on tumblr, you can find me at http://www.aquilla429.com https://twitter.com/aquilla429

Averis Posted July 17, 2012 Both, but primarily PC(Windows). For a long time I had both a Windows desktop and a Mac Laptop. My last computer was a Mac desktop. I've gone back and forth for many years. I like them both, but at the end of the day Windows fits me more. I like having certain access to things that I can't as easily do/get on the Mac. Of course, games are also a big factor as most of the games I play are Windows only. I also like to build my own computers and save a little bit that way. I've been using the same computer case for several computers now. I also own an iPad that I love and an Android phone that I also like. Haha.

di-chan123 Posted July 18, 2012 Definitely a Mac. Grew up on PC, high school slowly converted me to mac, and finally in college went to mac full time. Altho, now that I'm going back to school (animation industry was terrible for jobs...) I'm gunna get a PC laptop...for school and gaming ^^ (kinda need to finish playing shuffle!) leitan Posted July 18, 2012 both. both my s/o and i are computer nerds (he worked in IT for a long ass time) and we probably have so many computers of different types and of various levels of functionality in our house. we both own Mac and PC and, in my opinion, both operating systems have their advantages and disadvantages, and i use them for different things. i will admit i am more familiar with the inner workings of a PC but that is only because i grew up in a PC only household and didn't learn to use a Mac until i was in my teens. DJStarstryker Posted July 18, 2012 Both. I have a Macbook Pro running OSX Lion and Windows 7. Also have use Linux in the past, but I really don't care for command line operating systems. This Mac is the first one I've used since the Apple II era (back in early, early grade school). I was a PC person only for years and years mainly due to price and the fact that I was told Apple computers weren't very customizable. My last desktop PC I built myself even. But I have always wanted to try a Mac, so when I needed a new computer, I bought this one late last year. I had to put Windows 7 on it due to the fact that I wanted to still be able to run PC stuff. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure if I really have a preference one way or the other as far as the actual operating system goes. I like my Macbook Pro more for hardware reasons than anything else, such as the LED screen it has and the solid state hard drive (my first one in a computer). Got an iPad in the house too, because I won it very recently in a contest. Have barely touched it. It seems kinda superfluous. With the exception of being able to connect to the internet via the cell network OR WiFi (don't care about that) and being able to use GPS for maps (kinda cool, but the iPad is too big to carry around on the street), there's nothing it can do that my Macbook Pro can't. In fact, my Mac can do way more than it can. Maybe I should sell it. Are you ready to rock? ^_^
Dezarii Posted July 18, 2012 Macbook Pro/ipad. I used desktop PCs for a long time but I think Apple makes the nicest laptops. Mine's a few years old but still going strong. Next year I'll probably replace it with another macbook pro. (Retina!) I like playing casual games on the ipad; I'm addicted to 'Creeps'. It's also nice for cookbooks. kymaera Posted July 18, 2012 I have a PC desktop because gaming support for MACs is generally minimal to non-existent. However, I have an iPad and iPhone which I enjoy a lot.
AntElitist Posted July 19, 2012 Not sure how long this post is going to be. I grow up tinglingngingling with computers since I was 3 years old. Blow up quite a lot of 486 machine when they costed like a bomb last time but at least I get to know more about Windows 3.1 lol. now that I have a surpreme HP Workstation XW9400 that runs on Dual AMD Opteron Liquid Cooled with 16GB ECC RAM, nVidia Quadro FX5600 on SLI and etc etc etc, running windows 7 Ultimate, ESXi and etc etc etc, what could be any problem? I mean I could even be happy with such an extreme performance machine back then when I just got it 4 years ago right? Well there is a problem. Everything is good except one thing. This one thing literally kills everything. But let's talk about it later. Now with such a powerful machine, it certainly costs less than a Mac Pro with lousier specification. And I often scoff at people "Apple is crap. Don't buy their computer. They overcharge you with hardware!" And later I realized my mistake. You are not actually paying for the hardware, but for the design, and engineering behind Apple. When I started photography, I always have problem with colour. Always having problem. Callibration never helps. Not a single equipment out there is "universal" standard for colour accuracy. Different monitor = different profile. hasselblad demands perfect colour due to 16-bit colour depth. Then that's where Apple comes in with their iMac, Macbook pro and Apple Cinema HD Displays. Now I realized why most professional uses Apple. It's not because of class, but because they want to save time. Apple optimized their OS to work with their hardware especially display to help users to reduce time for colour callibration. You buy the machine, and you can start working on it without tuning anything at all. You just pay to save time. That's essential in most professional's work. You don't go around fix problem. You just use it to save more time! Now with their retina display on their MBP, it certainly broke the barrier of amazing resolution as of 2880 * 1800. And to think that 30" Desktop LCD resolution is only 2560 * 1600! With the help of Retina display, it will make your picture looks sharp. that's the good part about it. So... Apple! But up to now I have yet to get an Apple because of the heavy price tag. I know for sure 13" won't be enough for my 39 megapixels photoshop and lightroom work. It will break down lulz. I am waiting Apple to refresh their 17" MBP line with Retina Display, and I probably buy it as my first Apple computer. *But I still hate how their OS functions. Tried photoshopping on my friend's computer and good God. It feels so weird*

RaveOfNightmares Posted July 19, 2012 PC/Windows on all my stuff. There will NEVER be an Apple product allowed inside my house. Billy What Billy said. I have previously owned a few of their music players, and they all broke after ridiculously short periods of time due to shoddy construction. I took care of them, never dropped or abused them, yet they broke on the inside somehow... I grew up using both PCs and macs, and I had far more problems with the macs crashing on me or outright refusing to run software that I grew a distinct disdain for them. I also build my own PCs, customize hardware in some of my laptops, along with gaming and other things that mac just does not do properly. I'm also not a fan of how the mac OS runs. I also find their "design" and "engineering" esthetics to be lacking and boring as hell, often downright impractical. That listed above isn't even taking into account other things like their business practices/vision and their overly braggy advertising and snotty sheep-like worshippers. Add those in and my dislike for them turns into intense hatred and the sincere hope that the entire company dies in a fire burns in hell. /stepsoffsoapbox I'm a Windows, Linux, Unix, Android user. My first Sony laptop which I picked up in February 2004 still works. After trying my luck with HP, Hypersonic, and others, I moved back to Sony laptops with my 2nd one in 2009, and now this one in 2012. One HP desktop, heavily modded, followed by 3 custom ones which I built myself. 21 DD girls: Mio, Marina, Yui, Yoko, Nia, Lily, Arisu, Akina, Momo, Arisa, Yukina, Ayaka, Niimi, Eri, Millefeuille, Ekisu, Chitose, Miyabi, KOS-MOS v.4, Hatsune Miku and God Eater Alisa. 2B in a hopeful future. Anriko Posted July 20, 2012 PC all the way. Don't have anything against Macs or Apple, just prefer the PC. That said, I don't like how Itunes insists on putting all your music in a million folders by album, artist, title, track, moon phase, and alignment of the planets :p It makes it harder for me to cull duplicates from my massive mp3 hoard.
