Abandoned house

I kept seeing this old, run down, abandoned house everyday going to work and coming home. It was the caretakers house for the fire tower that used to be right next to it but the tower was dismantled last year. The house is still there tho and it's been begging for me to come give it some attention.

 

So a few weeks ago, before it got so stupid hot here, Yukino and I went for a short visit. Mind you, there are big "No Trespassing" signs all over the place so I was very nervous about being there and didn't take my time with the shots like I should have. I was also not using my kit lens, I only used my big 70-300mm lens for these shots. And it was being finiky. So not all these are really good but I do like the color and soft look that came out.

As you can see, this place has been in sad shape for a long time.

 

Since the front door was wide open, we went inside to take some shots thru the front windows... or what used to be windows.

After all the dark shadow looking shots, I figured I'd show yall just how destroyed the inside of this place was by using a flash. This next pic is the same as the one above, just with a flash.

COBWEB CITY!!!! Loads of broken glass too.

 

I tried to take some indoor shots but every one of them turned out horrible. Way too dark, out of focus... just bleah. So I went to a back room where there was another busted out window and found some decent light for some pics. And don't worry, I cleaned off the spot where Yukino is so she wouldn't get dirty.

Around the back of the place were more broken windows. One had some cool jagged shards in it so I took some pics of it.

After these pics, I was getting way too nervous about being there and getting caught and yelled at so we high tailed it out of there. So ends my artsy fartsy endeavour!

How much crap did you have to brush out of her hair afterwards?

I really love these rundown old places... Michigan is filled with them up where they made everything National Park, because the people who owned the houses weren't allowed to pass them on when they died... so things just got left behind.

Thanks! She seemed to enjoy being there overall but she didn't like all the busted up glass around her. I'd like to go to more places like this but I'd prefer them to be off the main road so I'm not as easily seen. This place is RIGHT on the main road onto the island so my car was easily seen parked out front.

Thank you very much! She actually didn't get ANYTHING in her hair! I was amazed... She got a little dirt on one leg but it came right off with a damp towel.

Me too! I like the look of the pretty girl surrounded by ruin for some reason. I am going to try and find more spots like this in the future.... I know there are more around here. I just need to find the ones that aren't out in the open and easy to see. It would be neat to see the ones you're talking about, they sound interesting.

Thanks so much! I think Yukino felt a bit sad after being here. She looks it in some of the pics. I know it felt quiet and peaceful to me while I wasn't thinking of getting caught... But overall I do think these places feel a bit sad being tossed aside and left behind. But I like that too.

And somehow You created quite a lot of contrast in these photos, between the rundown house and Your Yukino in a summer dress. And she has a perfect expression being there - somehow scared/sad/lost in thoughts... maybe thinking what happened to the old house, maybe she knew this place before...

We're going to go up north in August... so I'll see about taking some pictures!

Ha ha.... no worries. I can deal with all the cobwebs, it's the spiders themselves that freak me out. But I didn't see any while there and I was careful not to mess with them much. Thank you about the atmosphere! I figured this location would make for some interesting photos.

Thank you sir! I liked the contrast as well between her and the house. I just wish my lens had been working better or that I had known how to do the settings properly so I could get more photos. Next time I find one of these places, it will be where I have more time and no stress about getting into trouble. I agree about her being a good choice for my model.... she does really make the mood of the pics easier to read.

Thank you! It's great that people are picking up on the sad/depressing feeling these pics gave me. I just wanted to try the lens in a different way than I normally do so that's why I used it instead of my normal one. Next time I'll bring both so I can switch back and forth if need be.

I would've been freaked out if I'd seen any spiders o_O;;; But it's okay, I'm the spider killer in the family so I would've found a way to protect myself~ It's bad that I would be more freaked out by the spiders than being caught on land I wasn't supposed to be on

Is Yukino scared of spiders? She was pretty brave to pose against all of those walls.

 

When my Dad was working as a photographer for a daily newspaper he always kept a yellow helmet and a clipboard in the trunk of the car as a disguise for passing through construction sites and other such places. I was thinking a similar strategy would have worked here, until they saw your dollfie...
