Bicycle for MDD

I'm looking for a bicycle that's sized for the MDD. Preferably one that actually has chain and moves like a bike. I've been looking online and some people suggest the American Girl bikes and say they are a good size for MSD. Is that true? Does anyone have one to confirm this? There are a few online that I might bid on b/c I'd really like to have a bike for Yumiko but also have one to use as a reference for drawing (b/c a japanese girl has to have a bike to get around in my manga, so I'll haev to draw it! XD)

I don't know if there's a Winners/HomeSense shop in the US but they often have some DD scales bicycles in their home decor section. They might have some for MDDs. I know I found a motorbike for an MSD sized doll. Something like this should be okay for a MDD?

 

I can post height comparison pics between MDD, American Girl, and DD since I have all three if you need to know for sure. I do not have a bike though.

So I just got my American Girl Molly bike in the mail from Ebay. It is the PERFECT size for her. The seat is the exact width of her keester and the pedals are the just the right size for her feet.

 

 

The only issue is the bike handlebars are a little wide (around 7inch). It's not enough to look too weird b/c the 1940s style bikes look like that in real life with actual children on it.

 

 

So if you want a bike that looks cute I'd say that the Molly 1940s American Girl bike is a perfect choice (esp if you're wanting a bike for your Japanese girl doll since it comes with the back rack and basket in the front ). I'd bet the other bikes from AG are the same in terms of scale and everything. Mind you it's a working bicycle and it's a retired item from American Girl - I paid $150 for it.. which is the going rate for the item. Maybe that's a little high, but I was concerned about A) A bike that looks *very* good B) Bike that actually works C) Great colors/paintjob/accessories.

 

That being said... probably the most expensive prop I'll buy for a long long long time. It was worth it though in my opinion - and won't be a hard thing to resell for MDD/MSD and AG collectors if I ever get bored with it. Win win

So I just got my American Girl Molly bike in the mail from Ebay.

 

When you asked about the bike originally, this was the exact bike that I thought of. I didn't say anything because I wasn't sure if the style was what you were looking for in addition to it being discontinued. I have a fair amount of AG stuff and another thing I love is that their wonderful dishes are the right scale for DD. I'm really surprised that I hadn't uploaded the full version of this pic before:

 

 

It is Molly's table and chairs and I love using it in pics. It is great for Tamayuki because it makes him look little (he's supposed to be short) but Yuriko (DD) doesn't look out of place in the chair either. It kinda surprised me when I first used the table with the DD because having the AG sit in the same chairs they look a bit weird with their legs sticking out because they have no knee joints. Naiomi (in my sig pic) is actually wearing AG glasses with the ear pieces severely bent to fit on her undersized head. I guess to me it was a bit of a no-brainer about much of the AG stuff working for DD, but I also have a ton of AGs...

 

 

Tamayuki's pants are actual AG pants. You can see the folds in the back since they are twice his waist size, but this pair had ties on the front of the waist that I can use to wrap around and hold them up.

 

 

This outfit is Bitty Baby (although the shirt fits AG just fine) but both the shirt and pants are severely pinned in the back to make them look like they fit.

 

 

And AG food...

 

 

And Tamayuki's bed is actually Kirsten's bed that she never uses. The MDD fits just great in it (and looks more comfortable laying down in it than any of the AG ever did.) I personally don't mind the AG things being a little big for the MDD because Tama-chan is short (story wise) but I'm really happy that it fits the DD really well (AG beds for the DD will not fit however) and gives me another reason to get the AG furniture and stuff that I want.

 

I'm so happy that you were able to find the bike and it is just what you wanted. I know I have drooled over it for a lot of years in the AG catalogs. I can't wait to see the pics once you get them posted!

We saw a bike in the AG store, but it and the doll on it were behind glass in a case.. with no way to test it out. It looked correct size.. but ..yeah

 

They also have this funny lil .. I dunno.. bizarre skooter hybrid thing. It has a wheel in front and 2 wide pedal platform things in back the doll's feet would go on (that bit is slightly above ground). And handles have elastic bands to secure doll's hands to the bars!

No problem! Hopefully if anyone else on the internet needs a reference they can at least find these photos... Before I got the bike, the closest photo reference was a Pullip on the bike.. which isn't really the same size.. XD

Yeah... I dunno what that is supposed to be, I saw it on ebay too - it looked a little too baby doll-ish, if that makes sense. There's a trail bike from AG too, but its got more of the mid90s color scheme, but the handlebars are straight and I think shorter?

 

My friends and I didn't even know there was an AG store, and apparently there's one in Atlanta.. sooo... guess I'll have to go there with cash so I don't go crazy. Yumiko needs a cute bed, dresser... table... errrr.... /walletcries. ;D
