Gretel Pixy/Elf Ears w/Volks Head?

Recommended Posts

mangaemi

Already itching to get another doll to make another character from the Manga I'm making. My character Yune is a creature known as a Dream -- which is a creature that tells your heart the stories it wishes to hear every night whilst you sleep.

Really she's got elf/pixy style ears but I'm wondering if anyone's ever gotten these ears and how much modding did they have to do to make them look seamless with a normal volks head. And if you had to use magnets or /gulp do some glue/epoxying...

pw-6000.jpg

They aren't too expensive so I'm not against taking a gamble, but I like to preplan and see what other peeps have done with the ears first : )

If you got pictures I'd love to see them!!!

Many "fantasy parts" in resin bjd are being attached using small neodymium magnets. I think, this is the safest way for a DD too.

In this aspect the vinyl DD head is really quite different from the resin bjd head. The process of making the head in vinyl means that the inside of the ears are hollow-- if you try to completely remove them you'll be left with a hole in the center of the ear. Quite unfortunate for myself as I have a group of neko and kitsune who really only need one pair of ears. Now, I simply don't think there is enough vinyl there to embed a magnet in either side, the ear part on the doll or in the ear-- at least one strong enough to keep it on and without marring the appearance of the ear on the head already. I think your best bet would be to glue or epoxy them on. Try to fit them to the ear naturally and glue them on, or you can whittle away at the old ear with a blade so it fits first. Then you can use a tinted epoxy to fill in any gaps.

same head without wig, next to a nemurihime knob.

kuupee02.jpg

As far as I can tell these were Parabox elf ears put onto a DDH-02 with glue.

These ears as far as I remember are meant to be put over the normal Parabox head ears.

There is a seam naturally, that wasnt covered up by the person who did the head, but depending on the wig it might not be that bad of an issue.

awesome this was just what I needed to see - the plan is having a really really long wig, so hopefully it will cover the seams. just ordered it, can't wait! XD

I was wondering what type of glue one would uses for this kind of project?

honestly glue scares me - so I used earplug silcone but then found that was messy, and just white poster tac worked pretty well. I mean obviously if i push on them they'll fall off, but if I'm careful with it they stay on pretty well... I was just too afraid to risk ruining the head but there may be a better way.

There's also this page http://moe-doll.tumblr.com/ where are heaps of nice photos (some NSFW )

You can see elf girls quite often on it

I think they are 03, yes!

I really like elf ears.

I'm just wondering how is the seam line between ears and head >0<

WOW. I just checked that Tumblr site and there are some seriously gorgeous girls and photos there! The elf girl with the purple eyes is just awesome! She also makes me really miss Manami's Peach Pai.

I'll have to save this link when I get home and have time to dig around there more!

I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

Thank you Kumi! I figured that the ears wouldn't be seamless so it's nice to finally see some good pictures of what it actually looks like. This is definitely an interesting and easy project to stash in my brain.

I got a pair of these recently but haven't decided who's going to wear them yet. Some girls like Yoko have ears that are just too big for them to work! The instructions recommend that you trim the ears to fit, that will also minimize the seam line. If you notice on that tumblr page, the wig is usually styled to hide the seam.

Sorry to necro a thread, has anyone more recently been able to attatch the pixy ears? I have some and I tried hot gluing and it seemed to work at first but came off in a doll carrier. I'd rather not use something super permanent like super glue. Would something like Aves apoxie sculpt work. I know I could make entire seamless ears out of that, but I'm not a great sculpter.

I used silicon putty earplugs, but that might fall off in a doll carrier. White glue like Elmer's will work and is water soluble if you decide to remove it. Apoxie sculpt is going to leave a hard residue that could be permanent.

Hmm so I guess I have to choose between rather impermanent or very permanent. Guess I'll have to go very permanent if I don't want to mess with putting them back on once she's out of a doll carrier.

elmer glue was great it was water solutable, its quite strong, and if you bored with the ear just use water to deattach the ears.

CLS on taobao is now offering elf ears for dd...I'm not sure how they attach. It says to use eye putty on the back of the ear. They seem to look better than the parabox ears but there's no pics of the seam.
