I fail...

Im changing the chips on my blythe Adamina.

Or at least Im trying to,

Im totally failing with the gluestick method. Im probably high from fumes now too, Im so frustrated!!

 

Have any of you started on a customising project, thinking it would be as easy as it seems in tutorials only to find you cant seem to do it?

The first time I opened a Blythe head, it was so much harder than the tutorials led me to believe. The directions were something like, 'remove the screws, give it a little squeeze by the ears and off it comes!' There'd be step-by-step pictures of removing the screws and then the next pics would be of the opened head.

 

I could not for the life of me get that faceplate off. I almost gave up. I ended up putting the doll on top of several towels on a marble table, and leaning in with my full body weight until it eventually, after repeated tries, came off. My hands were red and sore til the next day. Of course after that I saw something about, 'some FBL plates are harder to remove than others...'

 

Now I need to open up my Middie and it's the same thing all over again!

I found the glue stick method only worked with some brands, it took me while but then i resulted to opening the head anyway, but only taking the back off trying not to break the seal on the headcap.

the thing about the eyechips is they need to be dust free and dry before applying the glue stick, then you have to leave them on for ages! only then can you get them out that way.

I couldnt wait that long so took her appart, then i did the same with all my blythes.

Thankfully DD's are much easier! HAHA

It just takes work; don't give up! Take a break and try again later when you're less frustrated.

 

I once modified a Pullip's eye mechanism to take acrylic eyes, while still maintaining the back-and-forth motions and blinking. It looked easy enough when I checked tutorials, but it was SO MUCH WORK. I did it, though... over the sloooooooow course of several years!

 

I'm sure it won't take you several years! You can do it! And when you have those new chips in your Blythe, it will be worth all the hard work and frustration.

lol it took me THREE hours to shift those nasty orange stock chips and put in these lovely new ones.
