misskale Posted July 27, 2012 So, I got it in my head a while back that one thing that would be fun are "costume prosthetics". Specifically ones that could be used without permanently modifying a doll. It's taken me a long time to find a material that I think I'll be happy with, and now I'm working on sculpting and prototyping. I'm going to go through the various stages here when I get pictures, but I'm also wondering what sort of things people would be interested in having. Currently I'm just planning on ear modifications but I'm interested in other ideas.
Nekopon Posted July 27, 2012 Would short tails and scaled skin be possible?
jadepixel Posted July 28, 2012 Seconding the elf ears! Actually I always liked the ears on Soom Amber, some more unusual styles like that would be cool. As well as some long nail hands! You know, for vamps and cat girls :3 jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop

misskale Posted July 29, 2012 Here's the initial materials test. So far it will sit on multiple head model's ears even if it was molded on a different head, it blends well on the edges (this was done in a second attempt at sculpting the ear and not photographed). It also cools in the same shape it had been set at with little shrinkage. The color is light and will need to be dyed. I worry about the shorter working time but it definitely isn't damaging the head and pops off easily. Materials test by misskale, on Flickr The one problem I'm having is that the wig interferes with the ears and knocks them off. I probably need to figure out how to affix them underneath. I would think tails would be doable, but they wouldn't be bendable. I don't know how well scaled skin would work. That's something I'd have to test. Although, the material can be made extremely thin to the point that it's translucent. Perhaps fabric could be coated with it. It is something to experiment with. RaveOfNightmares Posted August 7, 2012 When I saw this topic I thought it was referring to things like prosthetic arms and legs... I've seriously been at this Naval hospital for too long I think. 21 DD girls: Mio, Marina, Yui, Yoko, Nia, Lily, Arisu, Akina, Momo, Arisa, Yukina, Ayaka, Niimi, Eri, Millefeuille, Ekisu, Chitose, Miyabi, KOS-MOS v.4, Hatsune Miku and God Eater Alisa. 2B in a hopeful future. That's what I thought too even though I've been watching this thread for a while. I was excited that someone else was going to have a DD with 'false' limbs because I plan on doing one based on a charicter I wrote who has a metal leg. Yes, I know I'm weird but normal is boring. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
Ara Posted August 7, 2012 I also hoped for some kind of cool roboter arm, like a few BJD companies sell. Aaaw man D:
RaveOfNightmares Posted August 7, 2012 I also hoped for some kind of cool roboter arm, like a few BJD companies sell.Aaaw man D: I saw a limited Ring Grown male on Alice Collections that has a light-up robot arm and a light-up eye that is too awesome for words. If I ever decided to get a male doll for my girls to have around, it would be him. Also, I want a light-up eye for Ayaka. 21 DD girls: Mio, Marina, Yui, Yoko, Nia, Lily, Arisu, Akina, Momo, Arisa, Yukina, Ayaka, Niimi, Eri, Millefeuille, Ekisu, Chitose, Miyabi, KOS-MOS v.4, Hatsune Miku and God Eater Alisa. 2B in a hopeful future. As far as I know you can get the eye on the Ringdoll site, without buying the doll. Same for the arm. Heck, would there be any way you can get such an arm on a DD body?D:

No idea, but I think it would be more fun to try to custom make a robot arm than to try to fit a 70cm male doll's arm onto a DD. 21 DD girls: Mio, Marina, Yui, Yoko, Nia, Lily, Arisu, Akina, Momo, Arisa, Yukina, Ayaka, Niimi, Eri, Millefeuille, Ekisu, Chitose, Miyabi, KOS-MOS v.4, Hatsune Miku and God Eater Alisa. 2B in a hopeful future. Ara Posted August 9, 2012 There are also SD sized arms from several companies and self-made ones from customizer. But even if they would fit size-wise, it would be too difficult to get them on the body
pharaviel Posted December 11, 2013 I was thinking about the arm too, it would be easier on the latest dd models because they sell individual parts and skeletons... I'm thinking about making some customization on a ddiii arm i can buy and fitting it on a ddii...
misskale Posted November 30, 2014 So, I finally had a breakthrough in this today. I realized I could use non-stick aluminum foil as the guard between the clay and the head. I can bake it in the oven with the clay and it would peel off afterwards. At the same time I realized a tiny magnet fits in many DD's ears so I just had magnets in place under the foil and sculpted around it. Below are the results. The magnet on the outside of the ear is holding the magnet that was being glued. 20141130_151412 by misskale, on Flickr 20141130_151424 by misskale, on Flickr Once the glue is set I will do a photo of it on the doll. Remember it's a prototype currently.
