Ara Posted July 30, 2012 After I already showed a first teaser of my first girl I know also want to show her face-up (even though I said I would wait for her body, ooops). It's the first time I painted a DD, but I'm actually making face-ups and other customizations for BJDs since 2009. In my opinion painting a DD is a whole different thing though, and I actually enjoyed it more than painting BJDs Maybe I should consider making DD face-ups too. Anyway, two quick photos of my girl's face-up, who still needs a name. I wanted a soft look for her, but with subtle eyeshadow and long lashes, like she has applied a minimum of make-up. I will take better pictures maybe, it's so dark here and argh :C Materials used: - MSC - Schmincke pastell chalk for blushing - Faber Castel watercolor pencil as base for the lashes - Liquitex Flow Aid and acrylic paint for the lashes - satin gloss for the lips

Amber Posted July 31, 2012 Wow, that's beautiful. A very unique style on DD, I really like it. I think you should consider adding DD to your commission, since your style is very different compared to the others that do DD faceups. Your style is very light, delicate, and kind of ethereal to me. xD She is so gorgeous
MyuMyu Posted July 31, 2012 I love that face-up. I wish I could do something like that! I agree that making a DD face-up is totally different to SDs.

I've heard this a few times before, but I'm curious to know how they are different. Is it because of the sculpt, the expected look, or the vinyl vs. the resin? ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram

I've heard this a few times before, but I'm curious to know how they are different. Is it because of the sculpt, the expected look, or the vinyl vs. the resin? ~Sister Kyoya It's a bit of everything. Chalk and acryl stick way better to the vinyl surface, something that surprised me a bit. It's really hard to erase ugly blushing, harder than on a resin head. The look however is the biggest difference. With BJDs you usually have a lot of details, many single lashes and hairs on the eyebrows, and if only one of them sticks out too much or looks different it just doesn't look good anymore. With DDs you have several bigger spaces you need to fill out, and making the base for the lashes is actually like drawing anime eyes on paper. Aaanyway, thanks for all the nice comments @Ravendruid: Nope, was my first DD face-up and also only took me this one try, I finished it in roughly an hour.
