leitan Posted July 31, 2012 (edited) so, what makes this especially weird, is that my 2 MDDs are from completely different sources and they are both having the exact same problem. their arms are chronically falling out at the elbow whenever i try to pose their arms in ANY manner, and one of them even has her shoulder pop off all the time. the only two things they have in common is both being second hand. when i received them i didnt notice this problem, their joints seemed firm, and i have only let them sit in my doll corner, be periodically dressed and photographed indoors since then. but recently, i cannot even TOUCH them without an arm or shoulder popping off. my first MDD is a Konimi Yuzuhara character DD, so she dates back to 2007/2008. as i said, both of these dolls i am not the original owner of... she is from Mandarake. ...except for the head of my other MDD which is a blank Volks head i painted. she is on an MDD body that i purchased on Yahoo Japan 2nd hand a while ago. i do not remember if the auction even said what MDD the body came from. however, they're both having the same problem. sorry if this topic was covered before. what can i do to possibly fix this? and why is it only happening to my MDDs? (i have 4 secondhand DDs who i pose, dress, etc WAY more than my MDDs, including a 2004 Rei, and none of them have this problem with limbs literally falling OUT/off/etc) thanks guys~! PlasticFantastic Posted July 31, 2012 AgentPanda was having the same issue with her MDD Penny. When she came over on the weekend Sam used his skills to fix it. Your MDD's have cracks in the upper arm tubes that hold the lower arm pegs. This is why they're falling out. Our repair involved using very small wire ties to hold it together tightly. It's still a work in progress but it's extremely effective. Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews!
leitan Posted August 1, 2012 thanks so very much for the info and explanation, Plastic -is there a thread i missed that explains this in detail, or something you two worked out in person? i can probably take a little better look at the inner workings now with what you told me, as i had no idea of the *cause*, but any guidance is helpful. PlasticFantastic Posted August 2, 2012 I still have to post something with detail. I've just been very lazy and distracted so I haven't done it yet. ^^; Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews!

leitan Posted August 7, 2012 ....and just to update, my girl who has the YJA body (other one was Mandarake) now has a chronic loose foot - it's literally falling out of the joint/socket wtf is going on, it's like my MDDs are rigged to explode! why them? Anna-neko Posted August 7, 2012 ....and just to update, my girl who has the YJA body (other one was Mandarake) now has a chronic loose foot - it's literally falling out of the joint/socket wtf is going on, it's like my MDDs are rigged to explode! why them? TvT they do wear out with time ^^; Did you check for more cracks forming? Mari has been acting kinda funny too lately... Patched up her torso cracks with resin, and looks like a screw in her knee is now connected to thin air instead of actually holding into something..not sure how to fix that one yet
leitan Posted August 8, 2012 not yet, i've been a mixture of busy and lazy. honestly the reason i'm thinking about bring Suzuko out instead of Rilena for our trip next sat is that Rilena is not in condition to be posed until she is fixed. for Suzuko, it's just one arm, and i could make her a cute little sling and pretend she broke it until i look into the problem >< i really hope i stop procrastinating and can fix it somehow, i don't want to have to buy 2 new MDD bodies off YJA, that would just be horrible. oh well, i hope Mari doesn't get any worse - i'll be curious to see her in person. Anna-neko Posted August 11, 2012 this is what's called a "bandaid fix".... better than "broken spine" or "stain removal" hospital stay =P
leitan Posted August 11, 2012 seriously! i hope it holds because she's coming like this tomorrow until i can get her in for "surgery". gonna bring some backup bandaid/bandages and tape.... my other MDD is in a worse state atm ;_; also, seems so unfair when my DDs who date back as far as 2004 don't have a single joint problem and i actually do things like take their arms off or change their hands, unlike my MDDs mostly. SisterKyoya Posted August 13, 2012 this is what's called a "bandaid fix".... su by ___rei, on Flickr She's so cute in the pic but I also feel bad for the both of you (and your other MDD!) Tamayuki said, "She puts on a really brave face. I hope she gets better soon!" I can't say that I didn't know the MDD have issues over time before I bought Tamayuki, it is just really hard seeing them get hurt from just being themselves and not knowing how to make them better. I hope your girls can both have a quick recovery! ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
CottonTails Posted August 15, 2012 Ouch...this sux..sorry that i can't help but I hope Suzuko and Rilena's body gets fixed soon! or..If not, let's hunt for Cirno's..i will help..
leitan Posted August 16, 2012 su by ___rei, on Flickr thanks for the well-wishes guys. i ended up buying an American Girl wheelchair for Rilena right now because with 3 out of 4 limbs breaking she is confined to bed :< i think Su's arm is fixable. i am actually going to get my boyfriend to look at it, he is not a doll person but very smart and inventive regarding DIY fixes. as for Rilena, either he can apply his knowledge to her or i will have to replace her body... Cotton, the problem with Cirno is that i want her head too >.> plus if i got twin Cirnos... we had this convo last night...wah! plus, although i have "halted" my DD family until a new release (note to Volks: make my favorite Touhou charas, please), i have been so so tempted by Cirno and nearly entered lottery for her. not to mention i'd rather have another MDD than a DD even with the body issues. this could be dangerous XD
Mlecake Posted February 6, 2014 Im having this happen to me and my MDD is the 3 and ive only had her for a week!!!! this makes no sense for a doll thats brand new from Volks. ill try the wire thing as well. i hope it works. i wonder if super glue would be a good choice as well. Jezrah Posted February 6, 2014 Im having this happen to me and my MDD is the 3 and ive only had her for a week!!!! this makes no sense for a doll thats brand new from Volks. ill try the wire thing as well. i hope it works. i wonder if super glue would be a good choice as well. Well, is your girl's arm falling out because one of the connection tubes are cracked? Putting a cable tie on it won't help unless that's the case. Some of the new bodies just don't have enough friction to stay together even if no parts are broken. In that case the solution is to put tape or clear nail polish or teflon tape on the peg part to bulk it up a little and cause more friction.
K-2 Posted February 7, 2014 Another trick is to put a light coat of super glue on the loose peg. Allow the glue to dry thoroughly before reinserting. It doesn't have to be a complete coat, just enough to increase the diameter of the peg slightly here and there. The glue will stay put and not ball up or become gummy like tape. If you find you've put on too much glue and it's too tight or doesn't fit, you can sand the glue off till you have a snug fit.
