MDD and DDS comparsion

I've tried searching this forum and other peoples flickr accounts - and maybe I just can't seem to have Google work in my favor.

 

Wanting to get a DDS for my MDD Yumiko. The images I've seen compare DD to MDD which is a big jump, and the DDS seems like it's not as big - but proportion wise I need a photo to see if I should really try hard to get a DDS body

 

And it doesn't help either that every time I search with the words "MDD" (even if I add Volks and doll in the criteria) I get results for major depressive disorder... :T

 

Also if you got a WS DDS to compare with the NS dolls that'd be great too! The character I'm creating for the DDS is kind of ephemeral/sprite-ish so the WS might be perfect.. or might be too white when compared to the NS dollies.

Haruka on the left is a NS DD, Mariko on the right is a WS DDS.

They look about the same height here but Mariko has like... one inch heels on and Haruka is barefoot.

 

Here's one more for you, MDD Cirno placed in the front for size difference. She is also NS.

 

ah okay okay - awesome. That might be the perfect size then, esp if I give my MDD Yumiko doll some lift shoes lol.

 

Though now my purse cries b/c I'll be looking for a DDS body... and not thinking that will be very cheap hehehehehe XD

mangaemi you can get the parts for the DDS body and put them together yourself at the volks web site. I have 2 DDS and l love them mind you l need to find the right head for the 2 body. The new MDD body is hard to find on the MP.

I have both a WS DD and a normal skin MDD and personally the biggest difference to me between the two is that the WS is much harder to photograph without the face getting washed out, even when they are together in the same photo.

 

 

It is hard for me to pin down exactly what the problem is, perhaps that the WS is more translucent? Yuriko's face seems more blank than Tamayuki's does (despite the fact that neither of them have a faceup). It is like the shadows that help define the face disappear somewhere. I've had the same issues with Naiomi (also a WS) in some pictures I haven't gotten around to posting yet.

 

 

Here you can see clearly the difference in the normal skin and the WS. Rainie's head is a NS while the body she is using is a WS that under most lights look like it has a bit of a yellow cast to it, but that could also be the lights.

 

Another issue I have with the WS is with white clothing, there isn't enough of a contrast in my opinion and makes the clothing blend in too much, even if it is just the trim. The problem gets worse with an all white outfit as I found out with Naiomi (more pics I have yet to post) the other day.

Tamayuki (NS) in shirt with white trim. Even though he's a bit washed-out in the pic, you can still easily tell the color difference.

 

I found it interesting that you want to make a sprite type character because that's why I choose the NS for Tamayuki (he has some pixie genetics in him somewhere). The WS in comparison seems more ghostly and I wanted him to look more real than that. Hopefully my two cents worth was helpful.
