juu-yuki Posted August 5, 2012 (edited) Another repaint Rina yay~ I kept the same general shape as my first Rina repaint. I like that classy winged look on her >///< I can't bring myself to change it. I also kept the black liner to match her black eyes and arched her eyebrows a little bit >D This head has been slightly modded. Her nose, lips, and cheeks were sanded. I also took an exacto knife and modded her eyes a bit. I have never noticed this until recently, but Rina's mold has a problem with the eyes, they are not even. Her left eye is smaller than her right, although not too noticeable. The whole thing is done with pencil crayon, no acrylic this time. This is my first time working with pencil crayon. The main difference would be how easy it was to use and erase. I found the colour not as strong and the lines aren't as sharp as acrylic. You have to be really close to see the line quality, but for basic photos like these, the blunt lines are not too noticeable. I found that pencil crayons are not as strong as acrylic so it most likely won't stain... ever. I blushed her body today too ^^. Its a nice pinky orange now and looks awesome. I will take some pictures of it when I get some bikinis for my girls. Repaint included: - Head cleaning and faceup removal - Sanding and a bit of modding - Custom design and painting - 3 coats of sealant - Pinky Orange Blushing - Glossed lips Enjoy. Feel free to leave critics if there is something you like/ dislike. =] More Photos here: http://shiroyuki.juu-yuki.com/blog/ Commission info here: http://www.dollfiedreams.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3961 Edited August 26, 2012 by Guest http://juu-yuki.com Dolly Shop: http://www.lizanna.com
waha Posted August 5, 2012 Oh wow, she is truly stunning. I normally don't like eyelashes but you've changed my opinion on them
Gunter Posted August 5, 2012 I wish all Rina's looked like this one. I've never quite gotten the white album girls appeal, as I consider them quite dull just as is. (No insult, just my opinion.) If Rina had looked like this I would have happily put my money down for her! The modded nose btw is fantastic. I adore that fact alone, and I think her overall shape has improved greatly with the mod. Her eyes are so striking, and the shape is more elegant, and a bit alluring if you ask me. I also adore her smile. I think it was a great idea to darken the inner lip and show the smile more. She's got a sneaker feel to her, like she may be up to no good, but still with a touch of innocence so you can easily shuffle how you want her to look with just an angle change. Once again, I'm impressed. ^^

otakusan Posted August 5, 2012 Wow.. you never fail to surprise us. I think the way her eyes are done this time gave her more charm even. It looks like there is a hint if blue too.. like eye shadow. The lips is a bit strong as it appears on the photos.. maybe its just lighting? (I noticed that when taking pictures of my Rina too.. in person she looks 1000% perfect, and some angles, her lips does look a bit strong). I guess we just have to take a few more shots at different angles to get the best out of the real her Overall, I LOVE IT!!
archangeli Posted August 5, 2012 I LOVE the eyes and eyebrows. The linework is beautiful and the lashes are a nice and subtle addition. There's something about the mouth that is weird to me. I can't quite put my finger on it. In the 3rd photo (side profile) Rina looks absolutely gorgeous, but in the straight-on shots I'm not completely sold. I cahn't quite put my finger on it... It might just be the pictures so I'm going to wait until I meet her again in person to try to figure it out. XOHimitsuOX Posted August 5, 2012 Pure envy, your faceups are stunning as always. Everything looks prefect, but the mouth looks a bit off in some angles. Maybe the line in the mouth is a bit too thick. I'm surprise that you can make it look so good with pencil crayon
juu-yuki Posted August 7, 2012 Oh wow, she is truly stunning. I normally don't like eyelashes but you've changed my opinion on them Thank you Waha. Lashes add a more 3D effect and gives dollies that classy beautiful look. I wish all Rina's looked like this one. Once again, I'm impressed. ^^ Haha, I think WA girls are pretty even with their default faceup. I just think they can look even better and stand out from all the other girls with a good repaint. Amazing what a little sanding can do too, I really didn't take off all that much. XD Mmmmhmm. I made the mouth longer by adding paint on either side. I hope I didn't ruin the mouth too much because I know some doesn't like Rina's V mouth, I kind of made it even more V like. But I really really like her unique smile. ^v^ Hahahahaha. That is Oujo-Sama for you. She is actually a little sneaker which was what I was going for. She looks like a Kuudere to me mixed with a little bit of Yandere. She looks very innocent from the side profile XD She looks very lovely~! You did a fantastic job with the modding and her makeup. Thank you ^v^ Wow, she looks so grown-up! I love how sharp and clean all the lash-work is. Yay~~~ Just what I was going for. Rina's default faceup was very round= young look. Wow.. you never fail to surprise us. I think the way her eyes are done this time gave her more charm even. It looks like there is a hint if blue too.. like eye shadow. The lips is a bit strong as it appears on the photos.. maybe its just lighting? I guess we just have to take a few more shots at different angles to get the best out of the real her Overall, I LOVE IT!! Nope, no blue, but now that you've mention it.... I AM STARTING TO SEE IT! O[]O!! It's just the pencil crayon being kind of light and has this powdery finish. It's not the lighting, the lips are strong . I over blushed. Was going to fit it but didn't want to risk it. Lighting might be causing some of it, her upper lip creates a lot of shadows. But ya, she is gorgeous in person either way. There's something about the mouth that is weird to me. I can't quite put my finger on it. In the 3rd photo (side profile) Rina looks absolutely gorgeous, but in the straight-on shots I'm not completely sold. I cahn't quite put my finger on it... Everything looks prefect, but the mouth looks a bit off in some angles. Maybe the line in the mouth is a bit too thick. I'm surprise that you can make it look so good with pencil crayon Too dark? Uneven shape? XD The lighting is coming from the top right so they might be causing the uneven-ness. I kind of over blushed her lips to compensate for my post processing too . I will double check the line work on her lips in a bit. You guys are right though, her lips look uneven (thicker on the left). http://juu-yuki.com Dolly Shop: http://www.lizanna.com
RaveOfNightmares Posted August 7, 2012 Absolutely gorgeous as always! Seriously, once I'm done with moving and getting settled back home/art school, I'm going to have to sign up to have you do my Mio's face. I wonder if the blues showing up in the eyeliner is due to the camera lens or part of the post-processing? I see it in a couple of the pictures, but it doesn't look like it's actually in the pencil crayon. 21 DD girls: Mio, Marina, Yui, Yoko, Nia, Lily, Arisu, Akina, Momo, Arisa, Yukina, Ayaka, Niimi, Eri, Millefeuille, Ekisu, Chitose, Miyabi, KOS-MOS v.4, Hatsune Miku and God Eater Alisa. 2B in a hopeful future. jadepixel Posted August 8, 2012 Oh man, I adore how you do eyelashes Is pencil crayon like colored pencil, or more like watercolor pencil? Just curious, I've tried watercolor pencil but the lines tend to be wide and chalky. Wax-based colored pencil seems like it would resist sealants. I see what folks are saying about the mouth. What bothers me is that the color appears to be an even width along the bottom lip, most notably in the first photo. I feel that the pinks and gloss should go lower in center and wrap around the curve of the lip's bottom, and taper toward the corners. The corners of the mouth are extended horizontally, which makes them feel deeper as with chubby cheeks. A more smiley expression would have a stronger vertical extension- you can see this in the default for Yuki and Cirno, it's more extreme than you'd think would work for the sculpt, but it does. Also wanted to add that her blushed cheeks look really smooth and natural. Some of your earlier faceups had blush that was too subtle for my taste, but this looks just right. Really just some nitpicking of a pretty awesome repaint, but I hope the critique is helpful jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop

di-chan123 Posted August 8, 2012 Pretty! I agree that the mouth looks a little long in the corners, but she still looks lovely. What kind of pencil crayons did you use? O.o I'm redoin Yami's face and I'm curious to know what you used

I see it in a couple of the pictures, but it doesn't look like it's actually in the pencil crayon. Oh a Mio ^^ Definitely interested in working with her. I am using a Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens. For post processing I normally add contrast, exposure, brightness (if needed), and black. I don't really notice the colour hue on my macbook. I should go outdoors and shoot some photos and see if the blue is still there. ^^ Oh man, I adore how you do eyelashes Is pencil crayon like colored pencil, or more like watercolor pencil? Really just some nitpicking of a pretty awesome repaint, but I hope the critique is helpful Hey Jade =] It's actually water coloured pencil crayon. Regular pencil crayon works for me too and there isn't really much difference, they are both kind of hard to take off. =/ When drawing in the pink for her mouth I had a hard time getting into the corners ^^" It's really hard to fix line work once you have sealant under it =[ I would fix it but I am scared that I would ruin it even more. I was looking at Airi in person with a different light and it seems fine, will probably take more photos with different lighting. Thanks for the suggestions Jade, I will keep that in mind if I do decide to change the mouth. Ahh, the killer blush T^T. The evenness might have something to do with me using 3 layers of sealant and slowly building up the blush. Just curious, which faceup had the uneven blush? O.O Keep the criticism coming in the future, I really like them ^^b Beautiful! You really bring out the potential of the dolls you paint! (^_^) Hoping to keep improving. Thank you Chibi ^v^ Wonderful work! I love the colour you used for her eyebrows I want to see her in person, the mouth sticks out a little, I think maybe it's too red? I did add in more red to match with my post processing. I was going to go for a lighter colour but since her eyes are so harsh, a light lip colour would have been totally blown away by her eyes. I want the whole mature lady look >v< Pretty! I agree that the mouth looks a little long in the corners, but she still looks lovely. What kind of pencil crayons did you use? O.o I'm redoin Yami's face and I'm curious to know what you used Long on one side or both? I wonder if the post-processing is drawing out a characteristic of the lens that would otherwise not normally be quite so noticeable? Ah, scratched eyebrow =O. I have never seen that before. Normally, the paint Volks uses are very hard to take off, I have to scrub at it a bit before they decide to come off the head. It might not be noticeable if the photo come right out of the camera since the contract is pretty low on mine and everything look like mud. LoL XD Are the defects showing up in photos? If you bump contract and play with the levels the details will normally come through. If you have a black area beside a white area than it will stand out a lot (not good for defects) >^< http://juu-yuki.com Dolly Shop: http://www.lizanna.com

There are a few slight rub marks from her glasses on her nose as well. I'm thinking that the bluish thing is a slight chromatic aberration being brought to light through post processing. Not a big issue as all lenses do this to some extent, hell, my Sony 50mm f/1.4 is downright cruel sometimes with its CA but the sharpness of the lens and the brilliance of its color reproduction make it more than worth it. 21 DD girls: Mio, Marina, Yui, Yoko, Nia, Lily, Arisu, Akina, Momo, Arisa, Yukina, Ayaka, Niimi, Eri, Millefeuille, Ekisu, Chitose, Miyabi, KOS-MOS v.4, Hatsune Miku and God Eater Alisa. 2B in a hopeful future.
