Tan DD Space Girl's Sister Mocha

I felt a little awkward making an new thread for basically the same thing I did with Cocoa, tho Cocoa will be getting a new faceup when we dye Mocha

Just ordered Mocha from Volks who is going to be a DDy 02 head. I"m going to dye her as well as and make a tutorial using her ^ ^ Bwhahahaha tax money!

8/14/2012 update

 

I took a pic from the site and edited it to show the color I am aiming for. I won't mind if its not exact but somewhere along the lines of this color:

 

 

I will also experiment with face up to see what kind of style I'm looking for I decided to go with the open eyes because I want to to be energetic.

 

 

11/8/12 update!

 

I finally got a hold of a body and when it gets here I will get the extra parts to dye her. Which is the method I"m using. I will get a little practice body from volks made of the harder plastic and see how long it actually take the hard part to change. The softer parts are no problem at all since they are softer ^ ^ BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!

Finally ordered her extra parts from volks! Soon I will have her x3 I think she may end up darker than anticipated since most of the spray paint colors do't really match my edited one. Sooo...chocolate might be what she ends up being!

So after getting my body and all her parts, I am now working on coloring her. Decided to go with spray paint here is how it goes so far.

 

 

I am working with someone that has more time on their hands to help me XD Though she looks super shiney now, we will spray her with msc when we are done and that should Matte her a little. looks like chocolate indeed!

Finally did the dying process! She looks great!

 

 

WE just used Cocoa color Rit dye and hot water XD There was only one problem

 

 

Some of the harder parts died a lot faster than others. We are trying to find a way maybe paint over these parts XD but for the most part it was a sucess! She is so pretty!

So I"m almost done with her. Had to redunk her after a few days. Some of her parts got lighter XD It was so noticeable that had to redye most of her parts but now its mostly good. Took some pics at a meet I went to but I didn't have a camera but Baldylox should have a ton of her XD will post pics soon!

That is going to be half the fun! Getting her tan and also her hard plastic parts! The only thing I am worried is that Volks usa website hasn't restocked their base bodies in a while it seems.

Yeah, it's an ongoing issue due mostly to the huge Saber preorder deal. They got swamped with Saber orders and couldnt keep up. So now parts are dwindling and so are base bodies. It's been super hard to find ANY bodies anywhere unless you join a split for a new girl or find one used on the aftermarket. I hope you can figure something out when you're ready to get one. When you do get closer to wanting to buy a whole girl, let me know and I'll see about helping you out.

Yay another 03 DD! They are so cute! I'm also very curious how the permanantly coloring the joints part will go because it would be very useful to know!

Hi! I am currently doing something very similar (my Tan Space Girl will be Mihoshi from Tenchi Muyo!) and am experiment with different spray paints on her (Obitsu) foot, an (Obitsu( internal leg stick, a Volks headcap and a spare soft vinyl (Obitsu) bust I have. I'll let you know which one worked best. Currently got a deep brown colour test drying... good on the hard vinyl and internal plastic, so far still tacky on the super soft Obitsu vinyl (much softer than Volks).

 

For the soft DD vinyl, I think most relevant is the head cap result, and I am assuming the internal skeleton parts are of a similar hard plastic to the Obitsu skeleton, so that result should be valid too.

 

Going to test coverage, ease of removal and chipping, and test whether it dries well or not. Also going to test some vinyl/acrylic primers I've got.

That's awesome Till Troll! Glad I"m not alone in my experiments!! I'm going to get some white plastic parts from my local hobby store and try those since the hard bits of the joints are similar as an initial test. I will watch them and see if there any ill affects until volks restocks!

I finished my experiments (cue ominous thunder clap)! I tried out /alot/ of different craft and model acrylic sprays. None came in exactly the right colour I wanted, and many didn't dry properly on the different types of vinyl. I was using my trusty Halford grey acrylic primer throughout....

 

Then I realised that the primer was the only spray out of all of the tests that flexed with soft vinyl, didn't chip on hard vinyl, didn't melt skeleton plastic, and dried properly on all three! So I went back into Halfords (a UK car and bicycle materials shop) and picked up some Vauxhall Bright Copper (not too metallic after all, and the perfect colour!). This went over the primer like a charm on all the plastics. It doesn't even chip when I move my test painted joints. I have now primed an entire doll and will hopefully put the first coat of brown on her tomorrow.

 

So, in summary, I am painting a doll (Obitsu in this case) with car spray paint. I'll be blogging the result hopefully before Christman (I suck at maintaining my blog) so hopefully you can use the same materials I did! There are so many brown, beige and tan shades in the car paint range, and Halfords even offer to match a colour swatch you bring in... for a modded DD head that I want to match to Obitsu white, I am thinking of taking a doll arm in!

This is really cool to know, unfortunately I don't live in the UK. I have wondered about if it was realistically possible to recolor a DD or an Obitsu because I have considered a specific character I would love to have but the skin is mint green.

Yeah as soon as I get a hold of a body, I think I'll do spray too. I found some nice one and as compared to dying there is the pro of it being more consistant too. Just gotta gt a body...

My girl (obitsu 3 part hard plastic body) is primed, but due to the UK climate I'll not be spraying the tan colour until next summer. Le boo. Her grey body parts are lined up on a shelf all forlorn

That's awesome. I'm glad you finally got one and are having fun with it. Now you see exactly why I always have so much fun with my girls! And once you get yours together, she can come hang out with mine at meets!

Actually I have no idea where this shirt came from XD It just appeared in my doll stuff so I put it on her. She's in a black hoodie right now cuz I took her to Somi's house. I am now tryin to figure what paint to use, There's Tamiya and I think Kirra used Kyron >.>
