AerisAquata Posted August 1, 2011 I would love a standard DDS body! I want to make a custom Kinomoto Sakura without having to pay $1000+ for a base.
Kumi Posted August 1, 2011 So far white MDD and DDdy were only limited. Tan skin too. No one can predict, if Volks will ever release these as standard. DDS body parts are up on Volks' website. Probably they will be available soon = You can assemble a DDS body. Pricey. Maybe next move will be DDS body as a whole. Maybe
MsGeek Posted August 2, 2011 I think that Obitsu, in the future, is going to be listening to their fans closely. Volks doesn't have to, and DD is not really their big cash cow line. Their cash cow is SD. Because it's so bloody expensive and considered a "luxury good." Their audience in Japan is "parasite single" (god I hate that term, I wish they used "boomerang kid" instead) women who live at home in spite of the fact they make more than enough money to strike out on their own if they lived anywhere but Tokyo. Their parents don't ask them to pay rent and contribute to food budget and utilities so they still spend like it's still the go-go late Showa era and it's not the Heisei "bubble burst" era. Obitsu knows that the little universe of Japan is not the whole universe. When I asked Maki-san about different skin tones and the differences between the Otaku Males into vinyl dolls in Japan and other parts of Asia and the very different audience for their dolls in the Americas and Europe, (way more females than males) she was very emphatic about wanting to expand and serve the tastes of the audience here. PlasticFantastic Posted August 3, 2011 Sakuya and Lily comparison for PlasticFantastic: Thank you very much, Mitsuki! I feel like Saber Lily's faceup makes her eyeshape look very similar to Sakuya's but I see a lot of similarities between these molds.. Am I the only one? Kumi Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) You're not. But similar to Lily face has - for example - Sakura. Airy has similar face, too, and faceup change could make her even more Saber-looking I'd say, that Sakuya is more different than these two, because she has lower placed eyes. At least looking at this But it's a hand of the same sculptor, or the same "school". Edited August 3, 2011 by Guest
Dolly Posted August 3, 2011 Wow, thanks for the comparisons! I really like that "family" of sculpts. And Sakuya is listed on the english "After Event for Overseas Customers" page! http://www.volks.co.jp/en/event/htd_kobe/limited.html But it still says in her description that Touhou products are not available overseas. I wonder if it is a mistake or if they are going to say something like "Order Sheet D not available". >.< 'Cause I really want Sakuya and have been eyeing her high prices on Y!J, now I'm not sure if I should wait to buy her or not. ;_; Stop confusing me, Volks! At home: Smartdoll Onward & DD Jeanne Wishing for: too many to list!
