What music are you listening to?

Figured there's a "what are you reading?" and "what are you watching?" thread so why not having a music related one as well lol.

I recently got into In This Moment, a melodic metalcore band from California. It's become sort of an addiction really lol. Anyway their new album comes out Tuesday but I got it yesterday since I preordered it. It's pretty awesome. I'll be adding this album to my "wake up on my way to work" list. Currently that consists of ITM's previous 3 albums and an album by Amaranthe an awesome band from Scandinavia.

Looks like you're into the dark metal stuff. I do like it, but some bands I only really listen to in certain moods, like Disturbed and Evanescence. Nightwish, however, is an exception, especially post-Tarja. (I wouldn't consider myself exactly a Tarja-hater, but her voice just does not do it for me.)

I always end up with weird combinations of things in my playlists. I have an automatic playlist, for instance, that has anything added in the last month. Currently it has:

Abney Park's latest album, Ancient Worlds (the version with the instrumentals too. Definitely recommend that version, because then you can really hear the subtleties in their arrangements.)

Doctor Who (new) series 3 soundtrack

Soundtrack to some miniseries I've never seen, Camelot (pretty music so far though)

And some random things from Youtube:

Stormwolf's "Beginning of Order"

Eurobeat Brony's "Diamond Dogs (Vocal)"

And a jazz cover of the Doctor Who theme. XD

Speaking of weird mixes, I put the Doctor Who revival season 1 and 2 soundtrack on a playlist with the Madoka Magica soundtracks, and holy crap those two go together well.

That is an odd assortment of music on your playlist lol. I have to agree with you on Nightwish. Annette is soo much better than Tarja. Course, part of it for me is that I discovered Nighwish when Annette was the singer so Tarja just sounds weird to me. Plus I'm not into symphonic metal. And In This Moment isn't dark lol. Their second album Dream is more melodic than metalcore. Maria has a great voice...and is pretty easy on the eyes too lol. I've heard Amaranthe classified as death metal but I don't feel like I'm going to hell for listening to it so it's ok lol.

I listen to a variety of music, as one would see in the CD wallet that I have in my car. I've been listening to metal with a few other things thrown in for good measure. Off the top of my head, these bands have been in my CD player recently:

Arch Enemy

Judas Priest

Metallica

Mumford & Sons

Florence + the Machine

Megadeth

Soundgarden

In This Moment

Disturbed

Lacuna Coil

Paramore

Rammstein

Journey

That's an... interesting group. Journey and Paramore don't quite belong with the rest. Actually, Journey doesn't for 2 reasons (age AND genre). But I can't say much. Here's stuff I've listened to lately...

Staind

Shoko Nakagawa (J-Pop)

Final Fantasy Tactics soundtrack

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Evanescence

Amberian Dawn

I'm a rock (pretty much all flavors and eras, though I mostly listen to late 70s, 80s, and 90s), video game/anime soundtrack, and, in a minor way, Japanese pop and pop-rock person. Rock is the main one though, being I'm a terrible newbie rock guitarist.

Edit: Oh, and to you people who will actually read my post I noticed a few of you said you liked Soundgarden. Honestly, I never really got the appeal of that band, but maybe I haven't found good songs. Any recommendations of tracks to check out?

I've been listening to Soundgarden since sometime in the mid-90s. As far as finding a good song goes, pretty much anything from the albums BadMotorFinger and Superunknown qualify, along with most of what's on "Down on the Upside".

Personal favorites would include:

Jesus Christ Pose, Rusty Cage, Outshined, Slaves and Bulldozers, Room a Thousand Years Wide - from BadMotorFinger

The entirety of SuperUnknown

Pretty Noose, Blow up the Outside World, Never Named, Applebite, No Attention, Switch Opens, Overfloater - Down on the Upside

Black Rain - Telephantasm Disc 2

Live to Rise - The Avengers soundtrack

yeah idk how they really got in there. My music tastes have gotten progressively harder over time. As a kid all we listened to was country. Rock was like bad lol. Then i got introduced to classic rock by my dad hence Journey, from there i moved on to rock then hard rock and metal and now ITM and Amaranthe have elements of hardcore/screamo. I actually thought Disturbed was like evil at one point but now they dont' even sound that hard lol. Sooo I'm figuring that someday I'll just be listening to straight like industrial noise or something as my tolerance gets to high lol. I really can't explain how Paramore fell in there. It helps that I think Haley is kinda hot lol...but I like their music and own all of their cds.

FYI...In This Moment's new cd Blood just came out today so you should check it out. Some of their new stuff has been compared to the Deftones if you're into them.

I'm currently listening to "KOKIA - Daiji na mono wa mabuta no ura".

I've been a fan of KOKIA's music for a real long time, but I've recently been playing a couple of songs from her "Remember Me" album a lot. XD

My range when it comes to what kinds of music I like is quite broad to be honest, but some of my favorite bands and musicians are;

-KOKIA

-Akiko Shikata

-Crush 40

-Seether

-LieN

-Yuki Kajiura

-Kalafina

-nano

-Poets of the Fall

and tons of soundtracks from games. XD

Oh, wow....

I just looked at my music archives, I've got a lot of different things in there!

One of my "main" Playlists:

Symphony Metal:

Epica

Nightwish

Evanescence

Apocalyptica

Metallica S&M 1 and 2

Scorpions & Berlin Philharmonic

Styx & The Contemporary Youth Orchestra & Chorus

My other playlists include Lots of Rock, from classics to modern,

Nickleback

Queensryche

The Offspring

Rammstein

Metallica

AC/DC

Scorpions

Meat Loaf

Three

Kamelot

Shinedown

Sammy Hagar

Halestorm

DragonForce

Tesla

Jackyl

Taiko Drums..(yeah, I tossed that in there to mess with anyone else that happens to be listening!)

U2

Brother (best mix of Bagpipes and Didgeridoo I've ever heard!)

Five Finger Death Punch

Buckcherry

Adele

Avenged Sevenfold

Not too impressed with rap, at least the more hardcore, although Everlast and Linkin Park *sorta* stays in the modern rock genre, to me, anyways....

(Might edit this further along the way as I think more on it)

Continued:

Seasonal mixes:

Trans Siberian Orchestra.

Bob Rivers Christmas Classics, Lost Christmas Classics, etc. Ad Nauseum......

Red Peters. ("Holy Bleep, It's Christmas!" "You ain't getting Bleep for Christmas")

(Any other Weird Al-Dr. Demento type holiday mangling music I can find!)

Battrastard, that main playlist of yours sounds epic! I should see if there's some way I can export a Word dobleepent or something with all the songs on a couple of my playlists; I think a lot of people would be befuddled by the stuff I put together. I do know what you mean by "messing with people" by putting stuff on a playlist that doesn't quite fit! I actually try to do that on purpose with many of my playlists--like slipping in the Cantonese Sailor Moon opening theme onto the playlist I made for playing World of Warcraft. XD

Right now though, I'm kind of pining for Ponies, so I'm listening to a bunch of Pony fan music by Wooden Toaster. (Mostly his original compositions, but a couple remixes he did and a few remixes other people did of his stuff.) It's weird, when I first hear most Wooden Toaster songs I'm like, "Meh", but if I come back to them a few weeks later it somehow turns into "ZOMG so aaawesoooome! /)(*3*)(\ " It's like time alchemizes the music into awesomeness.

Edit: Just noticed you mentioned a band with didgeridoo on your list! Gonna have to check them out. I became a bit of a fan of the instrument when my dad bought a CD by Outback, which I guess is a bit folk, bit gypsy jazz, plus didgeridoo. (

) Abney Park used didgeridoo in one of their songs, too ("End of Days"), to great effect, and I wish they'd work it in more often.

Awesome, thanks! The only things I was finding on Youtube were terrible, abhorrent quality. Pretty cool so far. (And it's nice when I get into a band that's actually still producing stuff. XD)

Uh, to say the least about my taste it is literally everywhere. I don't even know if I could sum up a favorites list because I would end up debating it all out. I just listen to whatever and whenever I'm in the mood. I can't say I avoid any particular genre...

I can on the other hand name most of what I've listened to tonight:

-Renard

-Furries in a Blender

-Jackal Queenston

-The Quick Brown Fox

(All three above are apart of Renard)

-We Plants Are Happy Plants

-Dir en Grey

-Journey

-Nujabes

-3 Doors Down

-The Glitch Mob

-Nightwish

-Pendulum

-Kalafina

-exist†trace

-Vocaloids (uh, not gonna go into details with that one)

-Touhou (another one I won't go into naming all the folks for this)

-Vitas

-Rush

-PinkiePieSwear

-Iron Maiden

-Versailles

And I'm currently listening to "Sonitus Vir – Don't Be (The Queenstons Remix)"

...I am a big fan of Renard and all his other creations. Almost everything (disregarding a few of his attempts at dubstep, but me and dubstep rarely mix.) tickle my ears quite nicely.
