What age do you consider your DD girls to be?

Seriously people, how hard is it to look at the credits of translated/dubbed anime for unique names? When I was trying to figure out Tamayuki's I went through a few pages of credits on Anime News Network to find something I liked. Eventually I ended up taking two parts that I liked, sticking them together, and doing a Google search to see if it turned into meaning something freaky. Now that I know enough about Japanese I've finally been able to track down (I think) how his name would be written: 魂雪 (It also says a lot about him too if you can read it.) Just for fun I did a Google image search for Tamayuki, and it was entertaining to see what popped up. Yet another fun thing about unique names.

My dislike of duplicate names with my own kids even extends to a custom I may get around to someday. Her character was named Beatrice for quite some time, but since she is an 04 head I had to come up with a new name for her despite my resistance to change it. That's just obsessive-compulsive me.

I tend to agree. One of my biggest peeves is with names in MMOs and pen and paper RPGs. I CANNOT STAND it when I see yet another "Legolas" or such on an elf archer type character. I always spend a lot of time working out a name and backstory for my characters, and take great pride in the names I use. I do sometimes recycle those names from one game to another, but that's because I'm merely importing the same character into another game.

I haven't done the same thing with my dolls yet. Apart from my Sakura Shinguji (who I simply cannot think of another name for, she just seems perfect as Sakura), both of my other girls have names separate from that of their sculpt.

Now with +/- 15% more uncertainty!

Why?

Not everybody have the same tastes. Some people like plain names. Example me. The only reason I choose Panchita name is because it is the female version of my own name. Plain and simple. I found it extremely tedious and tiring going for a name hunt. So I decided to chose the nickname for my own name and turn it into the female version. It come out kind of original by luck. So I think is a very valid choice is somebody decide to name Yukino a DDH-06. As long as he/she feel completely comfortable with that name. So we really can't tell them "you should have go and look for a different and more original name" because for me names should be given only if you love it. It doesn't matter the kind of confusion that causes. You need to give your DD the name that would make you happy even if it is a duplicate of other sculpt. If you choose a name because is going to make somebody else happy or because it won't be confusing for somebody else instead of a name that you love then is my opinion that you are doing something wrong.

I work as a substitute teacher and all I can said it that sometimes "unique" names can be a pain because the only person who know the correct pronunciation is the person who came up with that name. Then you said the name wrong or misspelled it and that person goes on your throat because you said wrong. Like if it's a common sense that everybody should now how to said that "UNIQUE" name. But I respect them because they went an pick a name for their child that they LOVED and made them happy.

So I honestly don't see why we should criticize other people because they decided to give their DD a name that make sound like the name of another sculpt or keep the original name of the sculpt. So overall to each their own

Sorry for getting out of track of the original topic. I originally just came to said that my new girl age will be 17 if I decide to keep her on a dynamite body if I decide to give her the DDS or DD body then she will be younger.

If God permits I will get her next week. YAY!! I'm so excited

Interesting. Let's see.....

Varakitsu is an interesting one seeing as how you could slap all kind of ages on her, yet none at the same time.

- Varakitsu - Canadian winter fox spirit:

- Dollfie age - Roughly 2 months.

- Human age - Mid-20's age zone (frozen appearance.)

- Fox spirit age - Roughly 900+ years.

Body would be 20 years of age while mentally would be insanely mature, ecchi playful, knowledgeable, while troublesome in a foxy way. The fun with age.

In short: I don't even know how old Varakitsu herself to be.

The proud master of a foxy (DD) Varakitsu, Renge, & Caster; Kon!~ Kon!

My girls all vary in age, Most of them I keep true to the character they were based on.

Ericka is 17 and the oldest of the bunch. just her sculpt and personality lend themselves to a girl about high school age. She's very innocent as well as being the peacekeeper in the family.

Saber Is 16. (physically and mentally) I always thought that the Saber based on Nero Claudius would be much younger. her personality of a mischevious, narcissistic, teenager (a bit angsty at times too) lends itself mainly to her sort of 'naughty' expression. I always felt that the mysterious smile the saber sculpt had was a 'hand in the cookie jar look'.

Asuka is 13. I simply kept her age the same as her character in the series. her personality entails everything that made her character so great.

My dolls have just about zero backstory...so age has never come up. I'll say they're around my age range of 18-20.

Rise, Rise #2, Kasumi - Rise x 3// Ritsuko - 2B // Momo - M.O.M.O. // Nayuki -Mikuru // Romi - 09 // Makoto - Sailor Jupiter // Mikasa - DD07 (WIP) // Akechi - DDH-25

Yes, I'm sorry, the Sabers were just the easiest to pick on for a good example. Duplicate names are just a pet peeve of mine and I try very hard to avoid it. For a while I even stressed a bit over Tamayuki's name after I realized how many Yukino's there are here, even though his name has nothing to do with a boy-ish reference to the 03 head. Similar sounding names drive me a bit batty as well because I can easily get them confused, like Tamayuki and Tamaki (one of the guys from Ouran High School Host Club). I often have to bite my tongue when new people come on the forums and they get their first girl sometime after that, and still choose an exceedingly common name, and sometimes one of a utterly different sculpt.

I think this whole thing is quite rude, and the way you're acting isn't really that nice either.

People are free to pick whatever name they think fits their doll the best.

Names doesn't have to be "unique".

I mean, if you go to a school, chances are big that there will always be people who have the same names.

And some people keep the sculpt name, some do it because they keep the character of the doll, and some have other reasons.

They shouldn't be criticized for this.

Also, honestly, why are you only using Japanese names as examples of "unique" names?

There're just as many unique "Western" names as there are "Japanese".

And as MrFjmg03 said, some like plain names.

I do too.

I've a hard time with complex names for various reasons.

Mostly because they're harder to remember and because I'm often unsure of how to pronounce it.

I have three girl, Mina, Sammy and Lucy.

My Lucy is a Melty, and I have to agree that it can sometimes be a bit confusing, but I don't really care.

I picked the name and it got stuck before remembering there already is a doll called Lucy.

I don't feel like changing her name.

I think you're trying to hard if you have to change your doll's name even though you don't want to just because you feel it isn't "unique" anymore.

If you like a name, there's no reason to change it.

Names don't have to be unique, as long as you like it.

The only thing that matters is whether you like the name or not, not what someone else thinks, or whether it's a common name or not.

Anyway, back on topic, sorry, I think I've written in this topic before, but I've got two new girls since then.

I don't really have a set age for any of them.

If I had to put an age on them, it would be between 16-20, I guess.

What I do know is that Mina is kinda the youngest and Lucy and Sammy are somewhat the same age.

I have no intention to make an apology for something that is purely my opinion. I had one and I expressed it. Do I expect that it will bowbeat anyone into changing what they do with their girls? No.

Here is my original quote paraphrased to what the gist of what I was trying to say:

Duplicate names are just a pet peeve of mine and I try very hard to avoid it. Similar sounding names drive me a bit batty as well because I can easily get them confused. That's just obsessive-compulsive me.

As for people getting offended with someone saying a name wrong and not having enough manners to correct the person politely, I've had to deal with that ever since I started using my given name instead of a very common nickname. Every time I meet someone new they get it wrong and always spell it wrong as well. I don't jump down their throats about it but just politely try to remind or correct them.

The reason I was pointing out the Japanese names is because I'm pretty sure that there are more Japanese or Japanese inspired names on the forums because of the anime influence of the dolls. I never once said that Japanese are the only culture to have unique names. If you knew me personally you would know that it couldn't be further from the truth.

I try very hard to care about commenting on other people's girls when I have something to say, but part of me being human means I have faults like everyone else. After I while I cannot tell one default Saber, Melty, default 05, Neris, Mariko Sensei, Rise, etc. apart from another when it merely looks like an outfit and background change. And yet sometimes it feels like people get annoyed that their girls don't get commented on because they may be lost in the swarm of similar girls.

I make my best attempt to be polite on these forums but even I'm not infallible. I'm getting tired of being requoted and essentially being told that I'm a meanie because I have a strong opinion. I have quietly tried to ignore the issue, not because I was trying to be mean (I wasn't, but sometime I have a hard time expressing myself in a non-emotional manner) but I was just trying to let it drop. If you really have the need to hash this out still, that's what PMs are for. Honestly I just wish this whole thing would stop. I've already stated what I had to say.

Rina is mature 25 or so. Sakura is mature for age 16. Hime is a 10 year old with a bratty personality on the outside in order to hide her insecure heart of gold personality. Hime is also a bit of an insult in Japanese anime for prissy princess tsundere type girls, AFAIK.

At home: DD Sakura Shinguji, DDS Yukiho Hagiwara, DD Asuna, DD Rina Ogata, DDS MOMO, DDS Ranko Kanzaki.

Waiting for: Hatsune Miku

Preordered: Ranka Lee

Countdown to Hatsune Miku.

I see my Asuna as 18. It's a bi older than she is in SAO, but I thought she was 18 a long time before her actual age was revealed. Kimiko is 11, but she acts a bit young for her age.

Do any of you find that your girls' age similarly to people? I think my girls and I haven't been together long enough for me to find that out for myself...

My DD is ageless, probably because I don't do stories/back stories/bios for my dolls in general. I assume, in my head she would be considered somewhere in her mid twenties, due to being DDdy but I don't feel the need to put age on my dolls.

I guess about 20, 21.

Now that I'm getting in my upper 20s, though, I'm more comfortable with them being 25ish. Their specific age isn't that important, though. They're adults.
