smallpotato Posted August 19, 2012 Hello fellows, I wonder how Volks did for all the limited DD face make-up. They look very well done/sharp and symmetric. I doubt they were done by hand-drawing. My guess is they use some technique like decals to save for the labor and cost. I'd like to hear your opinions about it. Thanks
SisterKyoya Posted August 19, 2012 I've been curious too because I've never seen a Volks faceup in person. I always guessed that it was screen printed. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
Alphakitty Posted August 19, 2012 I read somewhere that they use plates to paint the very specific shapes on--which is why every once in a while part of the eye makeup will be perfectly shaped but too low or too far over. Kind of like how kaiju is painted, if you've ever seen a video of that process. I think it may be the same technique used in Danny's interview: mold plate+airbrushing or printing=make-up. If so, Volks will have at least 2 sets of the same head's mold: 1 for producing the head and the other one for make-up.
