Playing around with new camera

I managed to get a Pentax K20D from ebay last week and so far I'm incredibly happy with it.

 

Tonight I decided to try some ambient light pictures as well as with the standard flash.

 

I like that the ambient light pictures are much closer to what I've wanted to take with all my pictures. I like that they are soft and naturally vaguely vintaged.

Some nice shots. It really does give an older feel to the pictures. I like it a lot.

It actually came with two lenses. The kit lens, though the older 18-50mm version, and a pentax 50-200mm lens. The 50-200 lens also had a lens hood.

 

I know the newer 18-55mm kit lens is better, and there's the 55-300mm available as well. But I didn't think I could shake a stick at getting the camera, those lenses, a battery grip, the charger and 5 batteries for $500.

I like the ambient light photos. Your girls are so cute!

Hurray for another Pentax user! Even though I don't use them myself, I enjoy seeing the images they make.

Didn't I tell you a better camera would make a HUGE difference?

 

All kidding aside, I'm glad you were able to grab that camera set off ebay. These pics prove you're already having fun with it. I like the feel the room lighting ones give, it's warm and soft looking. Plus the colors look good too.

I agree, its great to see another Pentax user here, my main camera is a K10d.

 

One of the things that you will find with a Pentax is that nearly every lens made for or by Pentax since the K mount began will fit and work on your camera, although some are manual focus (not an issue for doll photography as they tend not to move too fast). Most are quite cheap too.

I didn't realize how rare Pentax was as a brand. I chose it because it was water sealed, it had a lot of lenses available and I liked the ambient light pictures. I'm going to have to make a point of going through the other pictures of the other pentax users on the board more thoroughly.

 

I need to move past just basic test pictures soon. But it's giving me a good idea of the effects of different lighting.

 

For example, this is what it looks like under a natural-light flourescent without a colored shade without additional light.

 

That last pic looks really nice. I especially like the dress Yoko is wearing, it's gorgeous on her.
