Poofiemus Posted November 14, 2012 I think part of why the Twitter-contest thing is annoying is that it's just such a lazy way to set it up--tap into a social network people are probably already using, and then using a bot to comb for entries. Doesn't say much for what kind of effort they think is worth putting into this. The other issue though is this: they're running a contest for stuff specific for a doll they haven't even shown pictures of yet. :/ "Let's give away stuff for a product a lot of people aren't even sure they want yet! GENIUS!" Volks, your art department makes some really cool stuff, but your marketing and PR departments confuse the snot out of me, man. ^^; In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser. SisterKyoya Posted November 14, 2012 I think part of why the Twitter-contest thing is annoying is that it's just such a lazy way to set it up--tap into a social network people are probably already using, and then using a bot to comb for entries. Doesn't say much for what kind of effort they think is worth putting into this. I've been surprised at how many people have been complaining about using Twitter for this. Personally I think it is a lot more efficient use of time and resources to use the tools that already exist. If someone hired a carpenter to work on their house people would think the carpenter was nuts if he said that he only used the tools that they had made and not easily available ones from a hardware store. Even if he was allowed to get the job, the person who hired him would be unhappy when the bill came and the time and labor costs for making the tools was added to the total cost. I don't see how Volks is any different. If they ran a "submit your info to enter our lottery" through their website, someone would have to be paid to either code or manage the bot that would filter everything, making sure people weren't filling in a bunch of BS or using their own bot to spam the system. The person's salary would have to come from somewhere, and those funds would be taken from another department. With Twitter I'm sure it's easy to set up a bot to be a spam monster, but it still gives real people the option of entering the contest and keeping their personal info private unless they actually won. Perhaps part of it too is how frequently Japanese use Twitter overall (I think they do), plus it's faster and easier to use than other similar services. Sure they could have chosen Flickr or Tumblr and made a photo an entry requirement with some gawd awful long tag to go with it so their bot could find it, but it's more time consuming to post a pic than using Twitter, and I'm sure someone would pitch a fit that their photo was funnier/better/more fabulous than the person that won. Sure they could have used Facebook, but if you ask me, it's already an awful mess and I hate having to give permissions for everything on there. Almost make me think that they are a Microsoft marionette. Sure the whole contest was badly set up, but I think the intent is just to create some buzz over the already well-known dolls. Publicity stunts are still stunts. Some things never change. I'm not trying to annoy anyone, I just wanted to point out the other side of the discussion. I really don't see what the big deal is about Twitter specifically. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram

Misheru Posted November 15, 2012 Twitter, Facebook - no different that filling out your information on a webform as an entry. You always have to agree to the terms which give permission for marketing. Nothing is 'free'. I use FB and Twitter sparingly and am as careful as possible. But I don't see a problem with anyone running a contest utilizing these avenues. They are free to anyone who wishes to use them. They do not ask for anymore info than a webform would require You can even use a pseudonym for Twitter and if contacted privately (like if you win), then you can give your real info. Much better than a webform, IMHO. ~ ❥ Misheru...the *M* in H&M House of Vinyl ❥ ~ ℒℴѵℯ❤ ( ͒ ु•·̫• ू ͒) ˚₊✩‧ All your dolliehs are belong to us! ✩‧₊˚ ( ͒ ु•·̫• ू ͒)

SakuraSylph Posted November 16, 2012 The schedule for the Xenosaga preorders is up! Source: Japanese project page. It's not on the English side as of this writing, so here's Volks' current plans: Oct 5 2012: Design Phase Start {currently in this phase} End of November: Product Details Published Early December 2012 to Mid January 2013: Preorders Accepted End of January Onwards: Product Production Period Around Fall 2013: Payment and Goods Delivery Looks like Volks is building in a long delay for production this time around. I wonder if they won't be as taken by surprise... Also, the semi-white skin body that KOS-MOS will use will be on display in the Volks Akihabara showroom (specifically) from November 17th onwards (end date TBD), so if you're in Japan and want to see it in person you can. SisterKyoya Posted November 17, 2012 How have payments for pre-orders worked in the past? Even though we have yet to see real pics, I'm getting kinda excited that if I like MOMO I might have a realistic shot at her. I should really quit looking at her pics... I realized that her clothes might be great for steampunk themed outfits. It's rare for me to like everything (so far) about a limited DD, but I'm starting to want her bad. Any guesses on what her shoes might look like? One down side is I'm expecting her black stockings to be rarely worn since Volks seems to have issues with other versions staining. I think I like her even more knowing that she's a DDS. Gah, I gotta quit giving myself reasons why I need her before I can see some real pics. She is just too cute, and has pink hair, and that hat!! I'm very happy to see that Volks has a long timeline for these girls because it shows that they at least anticipate a large number of orders, and hopefully can avoid another body drought. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
