Is the MDD body that BAD?

Recommended Posts

Little-Rock

Hi guys! I don't know if I'm posting at the right place, since I'm not used to the forum yet...

Anyways, I've been reading a lot about DD and more specifically MDD bodies since I just ordered one. But everything I read freaks me out!!!

I wanted a MDD because I thought a tiny body was cute and childish and everything but the more I read, the more I realize that people only say horrible things about the MDD body. "It doesn't stand", "it's very floppy" or "it has bad joints" u_u. I'm starting to be totally freaked out and to wonder if I should have bought the regular body instead... I hope someone can give me a realistic imput on this body, I still hope it might not be that BAD... I look forward to your opinion... Thanks in advance

The MDD body is surprisingly poorly made in comparison to the DDII body and especially in comparison to the DDS body. At the same time though, it's adorable and most certainly manageable for most of what you'll want to do.

There's a few things to know about the MDD body though since it is different. The arms and legs work pretty much exactly the same way as the DDII body at the elbows, wrists, shoulders, hips, and knees. The main difference is that the MDD body has very different feet and ankles; the feet are smaller (obviously, so that they're in proportion), but to make matters worse, the ankles are also looser and thus it's fairly hard to stand an MDD and they'll fall much easier as well due to having less weight to hold themselves in a pose properly.

Lastly, the biggest issue with the MDD body, is the fact that the head has practically no friction; it will spin and flop like freaking crazy. You can fiddle with it and get it to stay after a while, but it's nowhere near as simple as posing a DDII or DDS head. Thankfully, this can be fixed by replacing the neck joint, which isn't too costly or hard to do, but it makes you wonder why the same neck joint from the DDII and DDS isn't used on the MDD as well...

Don't worry though; you'll love the MDD body, they're an amazing doll and just require a little bit of extra love and care =D

Hmm, is this maybe just some MDDs whose heads flop? I never had that problem with mine... although she was prone to knee buckling...

but yeah, her cuteness outweighed any of that, and I've another coming to replace the one I foolishly sold so long ago.

Yup. It's totally true. Just be advised and spend the 5 bucks at a drug store for a mini screw driver and plan on tightening joints over and over again. Someone was going to use kips to tighten up the body and I am interested to know how it turns out! I recently sold Kaguya's body after having used the limited edition shapely bust version.... it's like an entirely different doll in terms of quality.

That said, I do love the MDD and will buy another one if Volks reworks it with better quality. I'm sure they will eventually. If not, I'd still buy a specific, limited edition character I loved. The body is not the best but it shouldn't keep you from trying it or picking up an LE you adore. ^^

The MDD body lacks the complete internal frame of the DDII/DDdy. It's certainly not perfect, but unless you are planning to have her pull of some crazy super ninja battle poses, the MDD is all right. MDDs are super cute though, which outweighs the negatives of the body.

I agree! Galvatim's Louise's cuteness is killing me! I would love a Louise.

my brother recently got his MDD and after playing with it for a little bit I noticed just how different she was to Yoko's DDdy body. Onbiously not just bust size, but as everyone's mentioned the knees and feet are floppy, it's hard to pose her so we wanna get the Kips for her but otherwise isn't not a horrible body, it's cute and small just needs a little extra love and care!

Okay so my girl arrived and I was able to get a better look at this MDD body. Turns out it's not as terrible as people pictured it on DOA, which is good. Indeed, the knees and ankles are floppy but she still stands. And the hands and bust are darn cute ! I will post pictures soon, when I have more than 20 messages ! Thanks everyone for answering my concerns!

Of course, it helps that the moment I got it, I took it apart and retightened the screws. Some of the joints were loose, and so I retightened them, and some, such as the torso, were so tight, I had to loosen then, move the parts around to get it to stop sticking, then retighten to hold a pose. There is a quirk in my MDD body where the left leg at the thigh joint just doesn't remain up. I've found that squeezing the hips together also puts the joint there back in place, as constant moving around and articulation will cause the legs to widen apart just enough.

Oh, note... be very careful when/if taking apart the thigh. It is a (5 letter expletive) to put it back together...

And the kips help...

I've had my MDD a year now, it seems from other people's descriptions that the tightness of the joints can vary. Luckily most of my joints came at just the right stiffness, including the head joint. The feet are a little less stiff and although it hasn't been a problem for me, giving her some shoes has helped her stability.

In terms of improvement, the head joint could have a greater degree of movement (I have seen replacement joints to allow this) and the upper leg joints/knee joints could also have a greater degree of movement. I'd also like the hands to be easier to swap over.

Other than that, I've found my MDD body to be quite good and I would certainly recommend not being put off by other comments if you really like the look of the MDD body!

I just got another MDD. *facepalm* I don't like the body but.... it is so cute.... the size is adorable so I am picking up another one because I missed having a girl around. I still stand by the fact that it is frustrating to pose and, yes, you can tighten the joints again but it's still way more trouble to work with than a regular DD body. Sometimes the extra effort is worth it- but the DAY they come out with a better one, I will be buying it.

I dunno, the biggest problem, if you can really call it that, is my Kud MDD is more prone to tipping backwards while sitting, because it takes a little more effort to sit her straight upright compared to Feena. But otherwise, I don't have those wobbly head problems, I can stand her up quite easily without trouble (its no harder compared to Feena) and I don't find the joints to be loose. Maybe I just got lucky?

Kud is the newest MDD. Maybe they did improved it a bit?

I got my mdd arle and she has the flopping head syndrome too. Can I fix that with kips too? Or somehing else? I really love her so much, I want to make better everything I can.

By the way, volksusa is selling kips. How many of those packages I need for 1 mdd body?

There are 8 in a pack.

KIPS only fixes knees/elbows. You put those lil flat disks at the joints' screws. So one package is plenty!

'floppy head' tho .. that's not really a joints issue, but more of "did they cut the hole in her head too big? or did the opening crack further beyond the cut?" thing... Can you pop off her head and look?

You can replace the neck-joint completely, Cool Cat sells the parts for it

(the only other major issues MDD's were known for, and this was more on the last gen body - the mid-spine break! Where a small round part holding her torso to her hips would crack. That was a job for epoxy glue!)

So funny thing - I just bought an MDD body, and I'm having sort of the opposite problem - the joints are very stiff and difficult to pose, especally around the knees and waist area.

My other MDD did have floppy head syndrome, but there I think the problem was that I actually had a cracked neck joint, which I replaced (and now she's fine).

As an aside, I'm glad the volks is selling replacement wrist parts for DDs now, but I wish they'd sell them for MDD, too! It took me forever to find some when my MDD broke her wrist, and I had to buy from taobao!

At home: DDH-09 (Ryoko), blue DDH-01 MDD (Aoko), DDH-02 MDD (Hikaru)

It is rather hard to take the head off and on, but it flopps anyways.. I totally dont understand. I cannot imagine a neck part would help. Both of my girls have the same problem.

I wanted to buy the coolcat neckjoint but it says on the page a x for mdd3, so it wont work with 3?

So, you just bought a new neck piece, like this one?

MDDIII-BF-01 - Upper Torso Internal Frame?

I cannot imagine what mine could have. I have 2 mdd bodies, arle and illya and both have the problem. The hole in the head is not too big, it is rather hard to take the head off and on.

I had the idea of trying one from coolcat but it seems they are not working with the mdd3 body..
