Bootleg Dollfie?

Recommended Posts

Kushina

Hello!

I found a really cute DD on ebay, but I am a little unsure - especially if the seller is sitting in China or Taiwan^^" (don't want to discriminate anyone, but many figure bootlegs come from there ).

So my questions are:

1. Are there any cases of bootleg dollfies? Or is not possible to fake a DD? (Just want to be sure, before I buy one there.)

2. Would you recommend buying one on ebay or is it better to use Y!J? (I use Shoppingmalljapan.)

1. Probably no one ever saw a bootleg DD yet - it's definitely possible, but it won't be cheap like in case of bootlegged resin dolls (and there are tons of it, as I recently discovered).

The complicated internal structure (ABS skeleton and outer vinyl) makes it harder to copy using cheap methods like simple recast. And that for body only, and You have to copy the eyes, faceup and whole rest of the usual DD fullset, where resin dolls come often blank and nude.

2. To me looks like on ebay there are more scalpers than on Y!J and the offer is much more limited.

Anyway, be cautious when You see some super-deal DD and check it before buying. Ask for user photos, not stock ones.

Recently the prices for DDs are rather high, even for used ones. Deals are extremely rare.

I just want to add that on the recast forum "Castaways" they now talk about the possibility to recast DD heads, from Vinyl to Resin :/

Of course they would not have the default face-up, but a) they are seriously not that hard to re-do and b) in some cases buying a blank head might be more interesting if you want to make a custom, so seeing a blank Saber head might be still very tempting to buy, since you would not need to remove the face-up yourself.

I just hope they won't start doing that, I'm already sick of this whole recast debate in the BJD area and hate how I nowadays have to worry that everyone in the second-hand marketplace might be a possible scammer and seller of recasts for the real deal

@ Kumi

Actually I don't consider 1300$ a super-deal (or is that rather cheap? for akira?), just wanted to make sure that I don't buy a fake one. (It's a looooottt of money after all - at least for me xD)

Thank you very much for your help! I will check everything before I buy her! Thanks!!

@Ara

I hate it too (especially if your doing modelkits its worse with all the recast out there D:), but I think you can't avoid it.^^" There will always be people doing this stuff (and what is worse) always people who buy it and support them with that. :/ In the end we can just hope to buy things from a trustworthy seller.

$1300 for Akira is rather expensive. There's one on Mandarake for 75000JPY just now. It's ~$960...
