azalea_lady Posted September 18, 2012 I find that sometimes when I spray it, I get a sort of turtleback texture. Am I holding the can too close to the head? Is it too humid outside? Will this harm my faceups in the long run?
jadepixel Posted September 27, 2012 I've had that happen when the temperature is a bit cold. I got the best results when spraying outside at 65-70F, and the head I'm spraying is the same temperature. If it's a bit chilly, warming up the sealant can under warm water seems to help. Below 60F I never have good results, so I just do faceups in the summer unless I get desperate ^_^; When you spray make sure the surface looks smooth and wet (but not dripping wet). Try doing another coat or 2 and see if the surface improves. Worse case is that it's not sealed well and paint will stain, or that the surface is too uneven for blushing with pastel. jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop
Till Troll Posted September 27, 2012 As Jadepixel did, I got this effect when I sprayed as the weather was too cold, and the layer I sprayed was too thick. Unfortunately, waiting for summer isn't an option as I live in England, where it is almost always damp and cold, except for those rare and unpredicatable occasions when it very much isn't, which I can't really plan my face-upping around! So if it's transparent varnish, my usual tactic is try and trick both the head and the spray into thinking we're in a nice, warm , dry country. I heat up my bathroom (use your garage? I don't have one ) with a fan heater, heat up the spray with a bowl of warm water (BE CAREFUL! if it gets too hot it may explode/bad stuff happens. I'm am not liable if this happens from following my daft instructions :p ), and heat up the head with the fan heater. I then spray the head, making sure the extra spray goes out of the open window. Then I run out of the room with the head, and shut the door too let the fumes disperse. I then put the head back in front of the heater on a low heat It's ridiculous. But it works! Using a garage instead of the bathroom would probably be simpler. My only problem now is I still have dolls to prime and paint a different colour, (damn you high humidity values!) and I really can't do that in my bathroom~~~ and I don't want to wait til next year! le sigh. azalea_lady Posted September 28, 2012 Thank you both for your advice! I don't think it was *that* cold, as it is summer and I am in Japan, but maybe midday is a safer bet.
