N2DollsNow Posted May 8, 2014 For me, naming the DDs is part of the fun. I know their origins are Japanese as they arrive, but putting clothing on them and changing a wig makes a big difference in my perception of them. I've found that I like buying the new Volks made up or customized heads and getting bodies to make a unique character. For help, I went to the US Social Security website to check on popular girl names through the years. (It was very interesting to see naming preferences change.) I made up a list of about 40 names I liked, and then looked at the girls. Their current names just seemed to resonate with their appearance. It's probable there'll be some name changes as adjustments are made. After all, there are no legal requirements to satisfy! "Your papers, please." - NOT! Davinnicus Posted May 9, 2014 I had about three or four names kicking around, until my girl finally arrived and she and I both agreed on Roslyn.
me-ow Posted June 6, 2014 I always have such a hard time naming my dolls!! I give them name's, but they don't stick. Seeing as Dollfie Dreams are made in Japan, I figure I should give my DD girl a Japanese name. Lucky, I've been inspired off of a League of Legends (video game) character. So my upcoming girl will be named Nami
YouRei Posted June 16, 2014 I always keep the original names and look of my limited DDs since i wanted those specifically because i like the character. I did change Mikuru's eyes and wig recently, when one of her eye fell off and i decided to experiment x3 However i do plan on reverting her to her original look. I own two original creations and their names only came to me as soon as i finalized their assembly. Shiori and Kana
Totorosan Posted June 27, 2014 I just bought my very first DD, and I am excited to give her a unique name and make her mine with some customization. I got a DDdy Miko. Still debating on the name, but I am thinking of going with some variation of Miko. Any suggestions?

Talolili Posted June 27, 2014 I'm in between. Sometimes I keep the original names and other times I like to create my own unique names. It's a little weird but sometimes I just can't see myself calling a girl any other name besides her "given" name.
Semienigma Posted July 1, 2014 My tan girls were named after warm drinks or coffee as a joke and it stuck XD Saber kept her mold name. My new girls I'm working on are different. Yukari (almost done) came from a dream where she pretty much showed up, I don't now about the girl after her. I just know she will have red glasses and black hair. I will se what her name is when I make her. Cocoa (Custom Tan Yukino) is currently taking over my house, and soon...THE WORLD! Now Mocha's here...And Latte too...this escalated quickly didn't it...Wait...is that...is that SABER EXTRA?! and now there's a Yukari http://www.semienigma.wordpress.com

Just need some shoes and stockings to complete it.
deadlegato Posted July 3, 2014 I usually wait until the face-up is done to name. Once the face-up is on, the name usually just 'pops' into place.
toxickitty Posted July 14, 2014 i just got my girls last week and she is the yukino ddh-03 head and i still haven't come up with a name for her. I like the character dollfie dreams but i don't think i would name them something different from their character. I like the idea of building a character from scratch and naming them after i get a feel for the doll. That being said i still have a nameless girl at home she's cute though
Dolline Posted July 16, 2014 I have semi whit skin DD head number 6. I named her Nana because I like Korean Idoll Nana from after school
Savaryne Posted July 28, 2014 I feel like I need to name all my dolls even if half of the time I still refer to them by their default name. Giving them a name of my choosing is like a mark of ownership for me. I might not call them by it all the time but it's theirs and I gave it to them
Lady Ravenswood Posted August 28, 2014 I plan to give my girl a name that is different than her default. Perhaps I am just used to ignoring the persona that the company gives to the doll from the resin portion of the BJD hobby, but I feel like it makes the doll more "mine" if I re-name it. That said, I have been er...stalking the specific sculpt that I purchased for quite a while now, so I am struggling a bit with seeing the sculpt and thinking Mariko. She hasn't quite arrived to me yet, so I'll just have to see how it works out. ^_^ Hehe, if I open her box and try out the name and it just doesn't work, I'll keep an open mind. I've had the idea for the character for a while now though, so I'm also sort of used to the idea of that character with that name. I guess if the name doesn't stick, perhaps the character won't either.
bux_darkangel Posted September 4, 2014 As I read everyone's post, it seems to me that the name has been picked to fit the girl or more that the personality of the girl picks her name. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Lady Ravenswood Posted September 5, 2014 I think that is generally true bux_darkangel. Certain names will evoke certain feelings when you hear them. Someone named Desdemona just sounds like they would have a darker personality than someone named Piper, who sounds more cheerful. Add to that names that are other words, such as Lily or Honey, and you get all that context as well. I think it's a great way to add characterization to your doll. Sometimes just picking a name will send you off in another direction completely with the doll's character. Hehe, in the end, my girl did not want the name that I had planned to give her. I was going to name her Honey (because the character was a fox with honey colored hair and eyes, and fox ears and tail). So I thought and thought, and tried a few other names which didn't seem to fit, but she finally looks to have settled on Penelope. And now that I've changed her name, she is a different character who wears different clothes and lives in a different sort of world.
MyGoldenBelle Posted September 7, 2014 When I get Mariko she will be my Princess Tutu. I love that anime and I think she definitely cute enough to play the role. I then have to find a sculpt for Rue.
Soenatte Posted September 28, 2014 My most recent "addition" (or rather reallocation of sculpt), Aoi, is Inaho-san... Together with the ridiculous spelling of his name I'll leave it to anyone's guess where he might have been inspired from DDH07: Naoshin | Yui: Eclaire | DDH10: Noah | DDH01: Mafuyu | P-chan: He Tian | Hime-Ane: Millefeuille Kaito: Sora | DDH01: Astraia | Tiamat: Ravus | DDH08: Alto | DDHo9: Leilani | DDH07: Fyodor
Aile Posted September 29, 2014 Guess it's about time I talk about my newcomer admittingly when I think about it now, her name actually was a spur of a moment from when I was watching Gundam Build Fighters. I adored the character and her name was pretty nice, I told myself it would become the name of my youngest daughter out of a whim Of course before completing Aila I had some doubts on the name, and I actually contemplated waiting out and see which name sticks, but in the end, I didn't really have to because it turns out that it was perfect for her ahaha ;; CREW: Haruna (Alter V2 remakeup ver) ☆ Nyx (Rise remakeup ver) ☆ Senka (Rise ) ☆ Aila (DDH-01) ☆ Nero (Saber Extra) ☆ Sora (Miku) ☆ Anemone (Sasara V2) ☆ Beauvoir (Sheryl Nome Remakep ver) ☆ Nymnir Nyven (Yuriko & Liliru) ☆ Jeanne D' Arc ☆ Y'shtola ☆ Leucothea (2b Remakeup ver) IG
kymaera Posted September 29, 2014 So, a few more girls since the last time that I posted. Chardonnay Deviluke: Her first name is a homage to the split personality character from Galaxy Angel: Kahlua/Tequila Marjoram. Her last name is a reference to the Deviluke family (Lala, Momo and Nana) from To Love Ru since she is also an alien with devil-like features. Ruri: Blatant reference to Nadesico. Mami Tomoe: Made to be a version of the anime character from Madoka, so she gets the name. Ren Taka: This one was inadvertently named by MarqV. We went to the Korean BJD show and were walking down the street from the hotel. On the way, there was a sign that was partially in Katakana. He starts sounding it out "Sa-ku-ra....Ren...Taka?" After a few seconds of him trying to figure it out, I pointed out the English words right above the Katakana: Sakura Rent-a-car. So, to never let him live that one down, I decided that my next original character would be named "Ren Taka" Fate Testarossa: Keeping her name from the anime. Though, since she was taken from a version where she was never adopted by Lindy and still has the last name of Testarossa and not Harlaown. Non-DDs: Roxy (Oksana) Yamamoto: The first name is a modification of the sculpt name Rexy. I wanted her character to be part-Russian, so I looked for Russian names and Oksana jumped out at me. I thought it was a bit too formal for the character, so I went with Roxy as a nickname. For the Japanese half, I went with the last name of Yamamoto as a reference to the anime character Yamamoto Yohko. Misa Rei: Kept the sculpt name but added the Rei part because then it becomes punnish. Misa + Rei = Misery Ironic as she's mostly a happy type character (ignorance is bliss). DivinitaAria Posted October 2, 2014 I am having a terribly difficult time naming my dolls. Rise remains Rise as I got her because of the character. Momo is just..Momo. Momo is a cute name, but I want to get creative. Marisa is still Marisa...not even sure where to draw inspiration from with her name. My 01 is Mariska, but I'm not sure...I need to get her painted. I used to love naming dolls, but since three of mine are character dolls, it's hard to look past tat Rise - Rise // Rise #2 - Rise // Ritsuko - 2B // Momo - M.O.M.O. // Nayuki -Mikuru // Romi - 09 // Makoto - Sailor Jupiter // Mikasa - DD07 (WIP) // Akechi - DDH-
Victoria Posted October 3, 2014 I have only one girl but I'd never use the character/company name for any of my upcoming girls as well. Guess I'd relate too much with the original character by calling them like that even though I want them to be different.
andreamillo5 Posted October 12, 2014 I always go by the feeling on the doll ^^ i try to search names before but most of the time the names appear sddenly i cannot see them with another name.
Deux Silences Posted October 14, 2014 I have kept Rin and Lily as their original characters because the Fate series is basically my life. xD Gil and Cu come from their source material as well, and my Neris, Atosaki, is named after an OC from my Fate/stay night fanfictions. Eliza is the only one who didn't have any preexisting character. ; w ; nope not today _(:3 」∠)_
Sariachan Posted November 25, 2014 For me the idea of naming dolls feels strange to me, just because I'm so used to all the characters they're based on. Though still, even the original character Volks DDs with names feel strange with names given by owners - the exception being different faceups. I started off with wanting to name my girls but ended up doing the opposite. ^^; ||T-shirts||Twitter||MyFigureCollection||Flickr||
