Mahoro Posted September 28, 2012 For me, it is mainly in the personalities they get. As I come from a figure collecting background, my DDs stay stock other than the clothes which get changed a decent amount. Also because of this, they still retain a lot of their personalities, that in some cases are imagined or percieved by me given a partial or entire lack of real background knowledge of their character, for example I've never played Photokano, and the small manga series of it only gives a fractional glimpse of her actual personality type. Or Cirno, I only know anything about her from the fandom, not the actual game. So what ends up happening is a crossed mix of what I imagine their personalities would be like if such a character was in this situation, mixed with a sort of personality that I see when I look at their DD form. What I do tend to do also, is incorporate some sort of glaring oddity or flaw from what usually is a spotless record into their personality, since as their name would imply, they look as though they physically embody a form of an ideal, so what would give my girls a more normal, human feel to them would be in the fact that nobody is perfect. For example, Sakuya Izayoi is supposed to be a perfect maid, a trait with which I keep in her attitude and personality. But after seeing the avalibility of some 1/3 sized pocket watches like the one she comes with, I decided that she also is going to be an obsessive timepiece collector on the side. Or Cirno when I decided to try a sweet devil outfit on her, bam, she became more of a tomboy in my eyes. Or Kud when I got Haruka (who I imagined to be more of a quiet soft-spoken individual), she became a prankster. So it rather mirrors how I see real people, people for the most part can look mostly the same, but its in their personalities that give them some life. baldylox Posted September 28, 2012 Looks help out for sure in keeping any of my girls separate from others that have the same DD's I do. And by looks I mean stuff ranging from different wigs, eyes and even faceups. But I also mean style too.... like what my girls wear as opposed to others. That means clothing, shoes and even hair clips and bows. Ask anyone to pick my Rei out of a crowd and she's easy to spot due to her ever present single red hair barrette on her left side. Same with Manami, she always has hers as well. I have plenty of character girls here and it can be hard to have them stand out from the crowd. Girls like Yoko, Saber, Mai and Ryomou... all of them are popular so you see them quite often. But small changes in appearance can really make them mine and only mine. Anytime I see another Yoko, mine stands out due to her short, burgundy wig. Same with Ryomou and Mai, changing thier wigs has made a big difference and they easily have their own look and style due to that. Changing up the eyes also does wonders, I know Mai has done some drastic changes just by swapping her eyes out. But I still think the way they are portrayed in my stories and photos has a HUGE influence on how my girls are seen. Their personalities are all actually extensions of my own in one form or another. And NO, I do NOT run around my house naked while downing cookies and drinking beer like SOMEONE else likes doing.... But what that does mean is that I do have my wild side and Manami is the amped up version of that. Rei is my more calm and serious side. Saber is my more bad attitude and angry side. Etc, etc. So how they are portrayed in stories and photos helps me make their personalites more in tune with my own and also makes it easier for them to be seen as their own people with thier own "lives" and daily routines that are different from everyone else. Orchid Posted September 29, 2012 I don't know if it happens to you but I love seeing DD with the same mold head and how their personality and appearance is totally different, is like "your Millhiore" is another girl that "my Millhiore" just for the changes done to the girls or simply the way they pose on the photos, for example ^_^
Gunter Posted September 29, 2012 The fact that it is yours. It isn't your friend's or someone else's online. They belong to you, and that alone makes them quite special if you ask me. ^^ ...that's kind of cheesy.

Michelle Hee hee, I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees their girls the same way I do. Thank you for telling me! I find it much easier to give them some traits of mine.... since I think I know myself well, it helps me know them too. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. RaveOfNightmares Posted September 29, 2012 I'm gonna have to agree/second just about everything posted so far. Personalities, customizations, and the little things that a person does for their girls that helps make them unique. Like my Mio with her ever present gold framed glasses and gold/coal necklace, Arisa's long cross necklace, Akina's skull socks and glasses, and Momo's downed default wig. Although none of my girls have had eye changes yet. Lily is going to be the first to get a change of eyes, because one of hers cracked sometime in the last year while she was in Japan without me/moved into temporary storage. It's not the result of mistreatment or falling, it appears that it may be due to temperature changes and the glue used. 21 DD girls: Mio, Marina, Yui, Yoko, Nia, Lily, Arisu, Akina, Momo, Arisa, Yukina, Ayaka, Niimi, Eri, Millefeuille, Ekisu, Chitose, Miyabi, KOS-MOS v.4, Hatsune Miku and God Eater Alisa. 2B in a hopeful future. Anna-neko Posted September 29, 2012 The fact that it is yours. It isn't your friend's or someone else's online. They belong to you, and that alone makes them quite special if you ask me. ^^ sir, I'm just gonna second your entire post, 'cause my brain said the exact same thing! My girls are special because they are mine! They may only have the most basic of customization (wig changes), and wear the same mass-marketed (well, as 'mass' as Volks makes) outfit as others dolls, but the personality projected onto them from my brain is mine and nobody else's

battrastard Posted October 1, 2012 I think everyone here has hit the nail right on the head.... Think on this, you've all got your girls, whether custom or a "character". She, or they, have a part of you infused in their personality... As an example, look at how many iterations of Saber are here, None of them are the same, Right? There's nothing wrong in that, it just makes each one of them unique, and adds to an enriching whole that makes me like them more and more, as individuals.... There's my two cents worth, and apologies for any offense I caused.... "Madness takes it's toll, Please have exact change!"
juu-yuki Posted October 1, 2012 - All limited image characters - All have custom repainted heads - Different wigs, eyes, clothes and body - Different personalities and backgrounds from who they were supposed to be I know some people change their wigs, and eyes often to keep them new and fresh. It's fun playing dress up with them sometimes but I always return my girls to their set eyes and wigs. It keeps their character and identity alive. http://juu-yuki.com Dolly Shop: http://www.lizanna.com
Xeby Posted October 1, 2012 I don't really have anything that physically makes my three different, but I agree with previous statements that just the kind of personality you give to them, or the personal importance you place on them can make them different for many people. Mitsuki Adored Posted October 2, 2012 This is a very good question. I usually pick girls that are not really loved enough ^_^. Though of course I believe Mio and Miku are plenty loved XD ahahaha. But yes I would say styles, their personalities and so forth. Especially how they carry themselves. Like at this moment I am creating a custom DD girl I believe isn't loved enough but I adore her to bits. I can't wait to show her to everyone once she is finished ! Taidai Posted October 2, 2012 I'd say definitely her arrogant smirk and rebelliously styled hair, although inventing an entire persona for her also helps. But mostly it's because she's always sporting the latest in my crudely crafted fashion catalog Be sure to check out my misadventures in the Dollfie Dream world: I have NO idea what I'm doing and my Flickr
SisterKyoya Posted October 5, 2012 Just like most other people, it's the personalities that are extensions of myself or others I care for. Tamayuki is very much like me in general, the world at large scares me a lot and I'm unhappy unless I have someone or something important to snuggle with. Naiomi purposely reminds me of one of my older sisters (who is still alive) and my grandmother who has been gone for a long time. In that way Naiomi helps me to remember the wonderful things about the both of them, but is also is a glasses girl stereotype who can be who I wished I could have been in high school. Rainie is definitely a free spirit like I was growing up, no real worries about what the world in general thought and just does whatever she thinks is fun, even if it might get her in trouble later. All of the DD we have now are customs done by me, and most of their clothes are made either by me or Raven. Sure they all have their basic references they started from, but the more they decide who they are and find their place in the story of our family, the more they become individual. Even other DD I hope to have someday have to have their own unique place within that story (and yes I do mean that literally) otherwise they don't stand out from the masses to me, cute face or not. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
DefectiveAngel Posted October 5, 2012 Making my girls different and more unique has been a bit of a battle for me. Since I don't do photostories very often I've failed to really get their personalities across. I rely heavily on style to help make my girls stand out. Even though the biggest bulk of their wardrobe is Volks, I always try to mix and match pieces from different sets to give them a whole new outfit and style. Also none of my girls use their default wig now. Most still use their default eyes, only two so far have been switched out of their default eyes. The reason I did different eyes/wig for Yuki and Rina is because I desperately wanted to make them different and stand out. Since so many own these two they are so difficult to make unique. Also all those people have set the bar really high and making these two girls very beautiful. Plus both of their default looks are gorgeous, but I wanted to really make them mine and change that up. Overall I feel I have been successful in making all my girls different and most certainly mine and only mine. And I definitely wouldn't have them any other way. Even though I don't convey it the best with my pictures, like so many others I also see bits of my personality in each of my girls.
