Clothing Stains

Are there certain types of fabric that will stain dolls? Today I made some small pillows, backpacks, and other stuff for the doll I'm getting and since I've heard a lot about it I just want to know if there are certain qualities of a fabric that can make it stain. The fabric I used was just something simple you would see averagely priced at a sewing store. And I'm pretty sure companies that make their products know that clothes can stain them so why don't they make clothes out of fabrics that aren't harmful? Or does that just happen because of what dolls are made of?

Just avoid dark colors in general. You can try and get rid of the excess dye dipping it in white vinegar, but it may not always work. You can also use body stockings to protect them too.

If staining does occur either use twinpines "remove-zit" and "Formula 911" or pimple cream (which is a lot slower...)...

It's not the fabric that stains the dolls. It's the dye on the fabric, and also the dye on the thread. Vinyl is a soft type of plastic that is porous. The dye just sort of seeps into it. That's why DDs stain.

Synthetics tend to be safer than cotton, ask at the fabric shop if you aren't sure what you're getting.

Also, I've had dark flannels stain very quickly. Be sure to wash fabrics before you use them to sew or dress the doll. Use light color or synthetic thread as well- often the thread stains the worst. And keep in mind that vinyl can stain through a safe layer. I've had shoes stain through socks before- socks were fine, feet had brown stains.

But for all the fuss, stains are usually removable with Clearasil. And if your doll is dressed most of the time, don't stress too much about a few small stains.
