Face-up! Critique please

Recommended Posts

Lala Lolita

Hello everyone. Here's a face-up I did- I know, it needs work.

My materials were:

Sealant (the label fell off a long time ago, but I know it's the right kind. ^^;; )

Watercolors

My actual blush make-up

Gloss for the lips and eyelids

The eyebrows should be lowered....

I'd especially like advice from Juu-yuki and Anouc please!

Thank you so much for your advice and comments!

know what, aside from what you obviously know, i like it. i do have a question most girls i have seen are detailed with black paint, unless she has light colored hair or something, is that a preference of yours to have it a nuetral brown? with the black it could really pop her eyes when they are in i think and help give some kinda emotion to the overal face depending on how you paint it and more definition to lashes and such. custom work is always hard am not very good at it , but i also have a limited exposure to hobby grade supplies. I make due with what i have and just work them for the results i want. i think when its finally done and sealed it will look great. what matters is that you saw it, did it, completed it and your satisfied

I've always liked the look of brown around the eyes, but this was a bit too light for me? A dark brown would get more of the look I'm going for. Thank you, I'm glad you like it! I agree, though sometimes it's hard to live up to your own ideal.

I worry about using real blush in the face-up. There's just so many things that could be in there, even if it's a powder, that would come from your skin.

Pigments and other chemicals in the make-up could also stain the doll.

Looking good, for me the lashes are a bit assymetrical but that's more of a personal opinion. Maybe you should avoid using human make-up next time?

For face-ups, you should use chalk pastels for blush (I bet you can get away with just buying individual colors from an art store - red, white, and peach for blush). Make sure NOT to use oil pastels. For paint, I recommend acrylics over water colors.

I tried again, this time it's better (I'll get pics up sometime), and I used watercolor pencils for blush?? I drew a little bit on sandpaper and used tissue to apply... I think it looks really good.
