Clueless about Obitsu Sizes comparison

Recommended Posts

Azael

Hello all, I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered somewhere else in the forums. I did find a bit of information but not -quite- the info I need - so that's why I created a new topic here.

I am contemplating on getting my first MDD (first of any actually) but I'm not so certain if I want to do that just yet. I've been taking a look at the Obitsu body types and think they make a great alternative. The heads unfortunately aren't quite what I'd like in terms of defining my character. So here are my questions:

I'm thinking about a 27cm Soft Body Type Obitsu Body (Medium Bust/White Skin). Is this size compatible with any Dollfie Dream Heads?

Is this size relatively compatible to MDD body bases?

What are the major differences to a Soft Body Obitsu and that of a DD? ((Some info I found had me thinking that Obitsu are only partially vinyl ? o.O))

And last one for now, is there a guide online that has a list of compatible brands/sizes/skin tones to DD?

A 27cm Obitsu is roughly the size of a Barbie doll, so no DD head can fit it. An MDD is about 43cm, so you'll be wanting to look at the larger Obitsu bodies in that range in order to use a DD head.

Ah thank you! That certainly settles it, I will be looking for larger sizes for my own collection - and perhaps smaller for fun, random projects. X3

Obitsu doesn't have a body that matches MDD. Instead Parabox produces their own which uses some parts from the Obitsu 50cm body, and some custom parts of their own to make a body that is almost identical to the MDD.

Tamayuki just recently got a 45cm boy's body that I will try to remember to take pics of with his former MDD body this weekend while I have other pics to do. As for how I like the body, the short answer is that it's awesome to see Tama standing on his own, I absolutely love the magnets in his feet. The arms have very tight elbows that I personally find hard to manipulate naturally and hope to replace with MDDIII arms when I can get some. Not sure how much modding it will take to get it to fit well in the Obitsu shoulder joint, but if it is close to the DDS arms it might only take some sanding. Either brand of arms are almost identical length.

waha: Ah, thank you, that will make my search much more accurate then!

Sister Kyoya: I look forward to seeing Tamayuki's photos! The magnets in the feet, and seeing them stand on their own, is definitely one aspect that I would be interested in. *nods* From some photos I've seen, it does seem difficult to get a natural look from the elbows and knees. I wonder if it would be feasible to replace the legs with MDDIII legs and keep the Parabox feet. Anyways, thank you so much for the info! It has definitely been helpful - and I wish you luck in your modding. I might end up following in your footsteps (I'm a big customization buff). X3;;

For the moment, here is a couple pics for the height comparison. I would have done a more extensive photo set but I have been running a fever all weekend and if I don't get off the forums and get some rest, my husband will make our DD dogpile me and pin my hands down so I can't keep typing. Also please ignore Rainie's half completed faceup, I haven't had a chance to finish redoing it since school started again.

I'll repeat what I said in other thread

All Dollfie Dream heads are intended to fit on DD/MDD (SD/MSD) size bodies, this means ~60/43 cm.

Obitsu bodies from this size range are the imho not very nice "old" 60, 55 and 47 cm bodies, and imho much better new 50 and 48 cm ones. And Parabox own 40 and 45 cm versions of Obitsu 48/50.

As for color, there are examples on this site as well, but generally Volks DD Normal Skin matches Obitsu White - viewtopic.php?f=39&t=4081

Bodies and their beauty are certainly a matter of opinion and both have advantages.

As a collector of all types (DD, Obitsu & Parabox 48, 50, 55 and 60 + several hybrids and Yamato) I like them all. You don't have to worry about Obitsus falling over without a stand and the long sleek legs of a 60 cm BJD Obitsu are very lovely. If a bit need replaced, the parts are easy to obtain and inexpensive.

With the shortage of DD bodies, I am very very surprised that we have not seen more DD/Obitsu hybrids already.

You can get high heeled feet now for the 40-50 cm bodies as well, so they are very cute.

I do prefer the overall aesthetic of a DD body, but I like both.

Sister Kyoya - Hope you feel better and grats on Rainie. I was thinking of doing the same thing with a 45cm.

I actually bit down and got an Obitsu 60cm body to do a hybrid due to the body shortage. ^^ I actually prefer the look of DD nude, but since the doll who is to be the hybrid will always be dressed, I can look passed it. I'll have to post pictures once it arrives to compare the height with my DD gals.

Indeed, Lord Noir. I feel very much the same way.

Once the doll is dressed, the body is really nice. My favorite combination is the torso from the slide joint body and the limbs from the BJD style.

When I posted pics I forgot to mention that Tamayuki is an MDD head while Rainie is a DD head. I'm sure to a lot of people Rainie's oversized head looks weird but I find it totally hilarious. So much about DDs are based on personal opinions and I find it fun to do something different. I love DD because of the ability to customize and the Obitsu bodies just open those options even wider.
