Recommended Posts

Hey all! I know these are SQ Lab heads, but I wanted to get some feedback on these type of face-ups. They're really fun to do.

Must say these are stunning! I would not of thought this was your first face up. are theses for first ever face up or do you have skills from the resin side of the hobby? I would love to see them with some eyes in.

These are wonderful! Are they pastel or airbrush? I really like the way you did these!

Beautifully done! I love the soft feathering on the eyes. Personally, I like the eye liner (?) to curve around the eye a little more. You must have some experience with non-anime face-ups, painting or something, please!

Hi all! I don't have anime eyes yet, so I can't put eyes in them. I sent them back to the owner anyway, I was only borrowing. I want to paint more of these dolls! I'm waiting for the Volks MDDIII body to come in-stock at Volks USA so that I can get a HDD-01/HDD-06 head with it and mod it to be super moe.

I do paint resin BJDs in their typical style, but I closed up shop for that recently because I got kind of exhausted from painting them. I want to start painting anime heads now.

I was able to get really thin lines by thinning out my paint (I use ZM paints and thinner), and I use the size 01 and 02 ZM brushes (both synthetic and non-synthetic) from the Volks store. Even though I love the anime look, I wanted to make them really soft and dreamy like some of my favorite DD face-up artists. To get the dreamy effect, I did use pastel to soften the lines, and then I took my time making a lot of individual hairs. To finish the look, I airbrushed on gold flecks to make them really glow. I also airbrushed a bit on the cheeks, but the light hints of eye shadow were done with pastel.

Next time I get my hands on some heads, I'll definitely try curving around the eyes more! I have drawing experience too so this is all very fun for me.

I like the feathering - but I feel they should contour around the eyes more - I think the lower lashes are fine being straight across - but not having the top edges of the lashes curve around the edge it's just not as attractive for an anime-style head. but that being said, heads look totally different once you put a pair of eyes in there - so maybe post a pic or two with some eyes in there?

I'll definitely try contouring around the eyes more! Thank you for the advice. : D!!! I don't have anime style eyes yet, but maybe next time I'm at Volks I'll pick some up just to put in heads I paint. I really love the custom eyes that other people make too, so I'll shop around.

I can't do a faceup to save my life.. I can paint garagekits.. which you would think would translate. It doesn't.. at least right now. I'm impressed, I definately think this is a very well done faceup! Sorta reminds me of Anouc's work.
