Lylee (original character)

Recommended Posts

She is gonna be a dark skinned dollfie dream/ obistu hybrid ( modded chest with a large bust for a 50cm obitsu) a collecting and using dollfie dream sister parts since they are more compatible in size. I have already tested the dye on the hands and love the color, many people tell me I won't get the hard plastic changed, but that hasn't been the case for me, I managed to get her whitey arm joints a light tan color and no it hasn't rubbed, scratched or leeched off. It's stained instead of dyed. It's still a work in process to get it darker, but my aim is for the joints to just not be white, That would look awkward.

My story behind Lylee is that she is a mad scientist experiment. A test tube baby grown from artificial cells in an incubator and force fed in education, because of being raised so confined she has never been awakened to know how the real world looks and has no experience. The lab suffered a nuclear melt down and in the confusion and explosions Lylee capsule was propelled into the sea, where it washed up on a shore ........and it's still in progress hopefully i can put the thoughts into proper writing and even some pictures (I see a photo story happening right after she is completed ). Friday I can order the thighs and shins for Japan haha thanks for reading

Looks like a really interesting project. I hope you can post pictures of your work in progress. I'm particularly interested in what you used and how you got the plastic to stain. One of the problems with custom dark DDs is that the paint won't quite take and that when it does, it can chip. It would be nice if there was a method to 'stain' the vinyl so it at least maintains a 'tanned' color.

Hope to see your gal soon.

Of course am willing to, alot of people was telling me it wont work, but for the most part its still tanned and does not rub off, believe me i have tried. I need to try using magic earaser on it so that i know the limits of the staining. So by tonight I will have an idea of how well, or poorly this works, i havent bothered with the colored arm peg for about 4 days. and its been satined for a week. I will post pics tonight.

Oh my! This is awesome. I love how the color seems so natural. And it doesn't rub off? So how many times did you have to re-stain her to get this color and if you don't mind my asking, what did you use? I'm thinking this would certainly make a custom Urd very possible. Wow. Now I can't wait to see even more pics of your project. i shall follow this post closely.

Keep up the great job!

haha its Rit Dye, as for how many times i cant say for sure. I dipped and removed it every 30 seconds and kept dipping until the color was what i liked/wanted.

UPDATE

So i used the magic eraser on the pegs to see how much color would be removed and what was actually stain as you can see only the pegs so a swing and a miss. BUT upon closer inspection i can plainly see why, the peg isnt refined ie have that smooth shinny finish, so it held the color a little better and i scrubbed vigorously. So i guess a second test is in order, i will lightly sand the shinny bits to remove the...er shine and make it as unrefined without damaging the joint. pics of progress to come

Hmmm... I wonder what the effect of leaving the vinyl in a solution for longer would do? Would it 'seep' through the vinyl permanently staining it or what I wonder. I saw its effects on some buttons so it shouldn't hurt the vinyl. Just wondering how far deep the color would take. Very interesting.

That's awesome. Urd shall definitely be on my DD custom wishlist. I should definitely try to get my hands on some RitDye. Have to check if my local Michaels carries it. No rush though since I don't have a spare body and I've already over exceeded my dollieh budget for the year. I'll just have to watch your progress and live vicariously through you.

update!

hurricane sandy on the horizon and before my power cuts off (which may happen) i thought i would research and experiment some more,

So it took quite a while with the different methods and initially it was more red than brown, its still kind of a redish brown but its a pigment in the brown so not much i can do am not an artist its super dark compared to her hand but i am quite happy with the fact that its not white and doesnt rub off or transfer dry, uhhh yeah, final product, doesnt come off with water, takes a LONG time with magic eraser, but acetone/or a stain remover may do the trick. Now to enjoy my days off thanks to hurricane sandy ^.^

Ps two more sets of joints for hands to go!

You're right its rather darker than her hand but its looking good so far, especially since the color is sticking. How is it holding up though when you move the joints? From the other tanned dolls, the problem is that the color chips at the joints when you move them. I'm thinking though if the colors seep through the vinyl deep enough then this won't be such an issue then. Oh well, I guess you'll tell us hey?

You and your gals keep safe in the hurricane.

I will have to replace an elbow cap (maybe i like it without) but it washed down the drain

Any the plastic is stained and not warped, so movin doesnt affect color at all it seems, as for the darkness, i think the different types of plastic take the color differently. or maybe its just the method? am not to sure haha but i really dont mind its colored and wont be white. i may test the other hard plastic spare parts i have boxed away to find out for sure after she is done, then i can redo new pieces if need be. so far all arm pieces have been dyed

i think the different types of plastic pick up the color differently if its being dyed, of course a manufactured tan/dark doll my be more consistent in color notice the shadows, am not sure why they happened then again always clean parts before you dye them. (i forgot doh!). i guess after the other pieces are dyed i can see what is what. but yes the color doesnt chip, isnt removed in water, or with soapy water, magic eraser removes some, but not that it makes a difference it will still be there. acetone and or a stain remover will, however i dont know how the plastic will look afterwards haha

am thinking tan dye may actually blend better on the joints and be more uniformed with the hand color...the color of her joints now would match well with the dark brown rit dye. so for the hard pieces go a shade up?
